Honestly, I haven't played THAT many, but FFX is definitely among the best, no doubt about it.

GTA3 was pretty good too, but the PC version looked SO much better so I have a hard time voting for that.

Hmmmm, I'm in the vast minority in that I didn't like GTA 3 or VC at all. Although I enjoy watching a friend go on random crime sprees.

My favorites are

Tekken 3
Guilty Gear X2
Capcom Vs SNK 2
SSX
MGS 2 (yeah, the ending was ridiculous, and Snake wasn't the main character, but it still played beautifully)
FFX (I never finished it when I was living with a roommate who had a PS2, and now I have a fever and the only cure is more FFX)

A lot of my favorites are listed already except for one, Star Wars: Starfighter. It was my first PS2 game way back when, and I still can spend hours on it. Just plain fun.

The Mark of Kri - A Disney-looking game where you mutilate opponents. One of the best fighting systems EVER. (If you see this anywhere for $20 or less PICK IT UP!)

SOCOM 2 - I dunno, I probably like it more because I play with friends. It isn't the greatest of the great, but you can play 9 hours straight and be disappointed you need to go to sleep on account the sun is coming up.

GTA 3 & VC (And 1 & 2 for that matter)

Romance of the Three Kingdoms VII & Romance of the Three Kingdoms VIII are great tactical and strategy games.

As for sports I'll always prefer Sega over EA Sports. Now EA Sports Big is where the fun is.

And call me crazy but I never liked any of the GTA games but the first and second ones on the PC. Granted I only played Vice City on the PS2 and never on a computer, but I still can't bring myself to spend any money on Vice City or GTA III.

And the Xb2 and GC2 in 2005 but still, makes me sad... a console that was once feared by the media for being able to command Saddam's Nucleaur Weapons is now the least powerful current next-gen console out there.

It still has advantages over Gamecube! It does have more RAM and its videocard is a little more powerful I believe. Oh well, that's simply the result of Sony releasing first. Console power has nothing to do with how successful it is. If it did, everyone would have an XBox and the other two consoles would die out.

I know what ya mean though. When I got my PS2 (skipped high school on opening day to drive and get it at 5:30 AM ) the news reporters were talking about how powerful it was and all. It was funny. I remember seeing the first clip of Gran Turismo 3 on TV before it came out and going apeshit. I had never seen graphics that good.

I've played nothing but SSX3 for the last month or so. It's very rare for a game to keep me hooked this long.

I bought T.H.U.G. at the same time and I haven't even broke the seal on it yet.

I know what ya mean. I played SSX Tricky nearly everyday from the day it came out until SSX3 came out. I beat SSX3 in two days but haven't played it since. I think I got SSX'ed out by playing Tricky so much. Oh well, it doesn't change the fact that the SSX series is the best snowboarding games you'll ever play. Hell, I'd argue it's the best extreme sports games you'll ever play, ahead of Tony Hawk.

Vice City was ok. It's a lot better on XBox. The other games are crap IMO. My favorite PS2 games are:

GGX2
Contra: SS
Disgaea: Hour of Darkness
Front Mission 4 (when it comes out).

Other than those games, I don't really like most of the PS2 library. Lots of shovelware.
