You can switch your job in the game, without loosing the job before. You can go back and forth as you wish. I know someone who is a lvl 13 monk, lvl 7 blk mage and lvl 7 warrior.
Also, when you hit lvl 18 you can have subjob's so, my freind for example could use his lvl 13 monk and lvl 7 blk mage, and have 2 of his favorite combos.

now that FFXI is out...how does it compare to....
HI EVERYBODY! So... my friend was tellin me how much he likes FFXI, but i have yet to see the game at all, let alone try it out. I played EQ for a long time, and shadowbane for a month or so. Liked em both, but nothing has been able to touch how bad EQ sucks you in. Wondering how you guys think it compares to the old school mmorpgs and if its worth a try! thanks studs and studdettes

There's already a huge FFXI thread on the main page. This'll probably be moved over there. I've heard so far that it takes just as long as in EQ to level up, so I imagine it's just as time consuming and addicting. I haven't played it yet, though.

I'm saving my pocket cash for Worlds of Warcraft, which is almost a guranteed god of a game. I believe that an online FF has the potential to suck seriously and has about a 60% chance it will...If it ever goes on a price drop perhaps ill give it a shot.

What about every class in the game? And how would you deal with Several main jobs/subclasses? When you switch Main Jobs..would they have the subclass applied to the main job perma? Or could I switch my sub dark kight for say a paladin? |

ok, here is how it works, you can start off as one of 6 or so main jobs, the basics, Warrior, Monk, White Mage, Blk Mage, Red Mage, Theif. ( i think thats all) Then, at lvl 18, there will be a quest that will allow you to have a sub class. This sub class will be half the lvl that it is when its your main class.
In you Mog house, you can switch your jobs around, so, lets say im a lvl 10 warrior, but i wanted to switch to blk mage for a while. And that i got him up to lvl 10 also. then i switched to a monk, and got him to lvl 5. I choose that the warrior is my favorite, then i play him to lvl 20, i complete the sub job quest, and select blk mage at my sub class. So, i would be a lvl 20 warrior, and lvl 5 blk mage. Understand? Then at lvl 30, new jobs open up, of course you would have to start over, at lvl 1 with a new job. *samurai, ninja, summoner, beastmaster, dark knight, palidain, dragoon* So, lets say i want to try out the beastmaster. I make the beastmaster my main job, and move my lvl 30 warrior to sub class. So now i am a lvl 1 beastmaster, and lvl 15 warrior. Your stats and stuff are determined by your main job only. I think i got all that right.

Wow, I can't believe that IckUber, FFXI's official fanboy, hasn't popped up six or seven times yet to say "BUY BUY BUY IT ROX0RZ!"..
That being said, I've heard nothing but bad reviews from friends of mine who have tried it (who I also played EQ with, by the way).

Actually, by switching to a new main class, your sub class is limited by that. It can only be at max 1/2 of your main job, so when you picked up lvl 1 beastmaster, your warrior would be capped at 1 until you started to level up your beastmaster

Well I bought the game, and Disc 1 wont run itself on my PC (I get random errors and it refuses to run the install)
I've done everything under the sun short of formatting (Wouldnt help anyways) The playonline disc installed fine. I'm seriously pissed and out of ideas atm. Also, the expansion disc runs fine.. Disc 1 in the CD rom = absolutely nothing besides an error. It has something to do with my PC not liking disc 1 for some reason, and disc one runs fine on a friends PC. Tells me "Setup Launcher had encountered as problem and needs to close" Last edited by Apokx; 11-14-2003 at 07:38 PM.. |

Being a vet of many MMORPGS(UO, AC, EQ, SWG) I must say that this game is absolute....
COOL! I've been pretty hooked on it when I play. This last Saturday I spent 10 hours straight playing it. Then again, I loved SWG when I first got it. That only lasted for a month. So I'll let you know in 3 weeks if it is actually a good investment or not

Being a big fan of Player v. Player i would like to ask if there has been any hints as to when the PvP is going to beimplemented ?
As much as i like PvP i really detest Mezz, Roots and Stuns. Could you tell me if those "features" are in the game ? Thanks in advance |

And before somebody says "why should I have to buy a ps2 adapter for a PC game", I'll point out that FFXI on pc is a PORT. It's a port from the PS2 game that will be released next year. The game was made for a PS2 controller, so of course it's going to play a lot better when you're using one. FFXI definitely isn't for everybody, like probably EQ fans. But don't let someone's first impression be your first impression. They probably didn't even make it past level 10 and experience the aspect of partying and performing high level skillchains. The further I get in the game, the more it feels like I'm actually playing a FF game and not a mmorpg with an FF theme. Sometimes it feels kind of like when I played Secret of Mana multiplayer on the SNES. FFXI is a great game. |

I was going to try it but then I heard they charge extra for a second character, they are not even trying to hide the fact that they are "money whores".

nanofever if you even looked at the game you would realize there is no point in having more than 1 character, with the abilities and classes and such you can completly drop your class and start over with a new class with the same character, or go back to a different one whenever you choose...so why would you need another character? Its only 1 dollar extra per character anyway like thats huge money

Will my "max" level fighter be able to become a black mage and cast like a black which has leveled in that class from level one ? If it can the game is stupid, if it can't then other characters become important. The fact that square has the balls to charge for extra characters (not to mention the absurd worldpass system) is the issue, not how much they charge.

SWG had Single Character Servers, and i hated it. At least here you get the option to buy another character.
I am what some have called a "dabbler". That means i like to try out many different characters/classes instead of focusing on just one. Anyway, i wont be palying until they implement PvP. |

Ok, I went and picked up this game. Played it last night and aside from the horrible interface I was impressed. Not sure if it will keep me interested past the free month, but I will see. I am on Diabolos and an elf (level 5 in like 4 diff jobs cuz I don't know which I want). I applied for the new server.

The game is much better with a gamepad,as the UI wasn't really designed for the PC (Most games are aimed toward the PS2).
Anywho, the game system is not too shabby, though it doesent compell me to play like EverQuest did when I started it. I'm not looking forward to PvP ;x |

I'm having no problems playing this game with keyboard and mouse, If you use the hotkeys and switch the style to compressed i think it is, it makes it a ton easier.
