FFX Length

Today I just bought A PS2 for the single purpose of playing FFX. I buy it and open it and I'm like WTF its only 1 CD :/

It kinda worried me that maybe it wasnt as long as FF7 and FF8. (Although I didnt finish 8 it was pretty long and had tons of shit to do.)

Please put my mind and my 346 bucks at ease and tell me its a good long game to keep me busy for 60 - 70 hours

I've got a little over 140 hours out of it so far so it's well worth it. The sidequests make up most of the gameplay (i.e. the monster arena where you try to catch 10 of every monster in the game and create original monsters, then use the special items you get to upgrade your characters to uber powerful)

Very fun game.

Blitzball is actually pretty fun. I suggest getting Wedge as a teammate as soon as possible though (hes guarding the blitzball stadium in Luca) because he is possibly the best character you will get early in the game. Just a little tip. Enjoy this great game.

It took me 40 hours to beat FF7, 40 for FF8, and 40 for FF9. Guess how long it took me to beat FFX? 40 hours. All Final Fantasy games are about the same length including FFX. Don't worry, it's just as long as the others. It's also the second best in the series behind FF7, in my opinion. What a great game.

PS2 games are made on DVDs now. Single sided, single layered DVDs can hold about 4 GB of data, nearly 8 times more than a PS1 game. That's why it's only 1 CD. If a PS2 game ever goes over 1 CD, it's simply for bragging rights or for a bonus DVD like a lot of DVD movies have today.

I lost the championship against goers, I donno if you can't win or not but it was hard as hell :/ I could go back to my save and do it until I win if its possible but I don't like doing things like that until I've beat it at least one time.

Yeah you just have to use the first 5 minutes passing the ball back and forth to your teammates. that will level your guys up enough to have a good chance. Second round, just try to score once then get the ball and don't let go. That's how I did it. Good luck.

First this game rocks hardcore~~

I'm having difficulty with the sphere grid though, I didnt use any spheres or Slvl movements until they got up around 16-17 on most of the characters, somewhere around the battle against sinspawn gui during mechina fight vs Sin, because everytime I play a game like this I worry so much about making the wrong move and then having to waste alot of Slvl moves to go fix a mistake and thus making the game so hard I get stuck because I wasted points

Not really asking for help just letting you know how I'm doing. My current position is a smidge after thunder plains!

no point in worrying about sphere grid mis-management. you can always level up more and change direction if you find you need to. it might take some more time, but if you're playing a FF game, you're probably not trying to beat it in record time anyway.

I'm at 38 hours and counting, right before the battle with Yunalesca (she's beaten me once, due to carelessness). I'm taking a break from it currently, to give Disgaea and Viewtiful Joe a try.

In fact, I've abandoned and picked this game back up about three times already, and I just can't leave it alone. Last time I started up again, I was in Mt. Gagazet, forgot which direction I had been headed three months ago when last I played, and spent an hour backtracking over already-covered territory. At least it was healthy for my sphere grid...

I have on the counter around 140+ hours, I probably only have about 100 of actual playing I told myself I'd quit when I had Tidus's Sphere grid filled up, but, I can't find a certain level break I think its either level 3 or 4, I dunno, I have a bunch of ultimate weapons yuna's, tidus', aurons',wakkas',rikku' there is no way I am going to try getting Kimaharis' that just effing rediculous. (dodge 200 lightening strikes in a row in the thunder plains). Anyway, LOVE THIS GAME. This game wasted a lot of my sophmore year of college. And yeah:

1. FF VII
2. FF X
3. FF X-2 (Hopefully?!?) Can't wait for this <----

Don't sweat buggering up the sphere grid, everyone's is relatively linear early on (except for Kimahri), and if you do all the sidequests, you can heavily modify the grid anyway.

I dumped about 100 hours into it. Only Disgaea has occupied more of my RPG time since FF7.

Disgaea? What type of RPG is that? I'm always looking for more games to play after FFX... I can't go back to FF7, beat it way too many times. Can't go back to Chrono Trigger, beat it way too many times.. Xenogears... blah blah.. etc...

X-2 looks like it might suck....pretty bad.

XI has been getting atrocious reviews. The level treadmill seems worn and ancient, even though it was made popular only 5-odd years ago by EQ.

FFVI, Chrono Trigger, and FF Tactics are the games to play.

FFX-2 got a 9.5 from IGN. FFX got a 9.5 as well, so I imagine it's damn good. I can't wait to play it.

Yeah. It's really wierd when you are used to gettting multiple CDs for a PSX game and then only have one DVD for a PS2 game.
Hey, I can still remember have 10+ floppy disks for PC games, and then CD-ROMs came out. Then DVD-ROMs.
I imagine that games in a few years time will be released on 40GB HDD, you have to swap hard disks just o play game. 8-)

I hated Blitzball when I first had to play it in X. I won that first game against the Goers, first try, and I didn't even try. I actually thought it was rigged that way until my GF lost. I didn't use any skill... pure luck it must have been. Getting that Jeckt shot early is a key.

I have around 260 hours total for FFX. I do like to take my time, but I've fully modded my sphere grid with clear spheres and put almost all filled with 4+ nodes. About 30+ hours of those are Blitzball. I eventually became addicted. FFX was just a front to Blitzing. Kept going till I had all Wakkas overdrives and everything that mattered..

I had to lock the game in the basement, haven't played it in around a year. I'm fearful for X-2.

I beat this game a few days ago and I've got to say, it is AWESOME. I never thought I'd say this, but I think that, overall, it's better than FFVII. Not a huge fan of blitzball, but I have to admit I've only played 2 games. The story was too captivating to play blitzball and not keep going. I did fairly minimal leveling up - never even got Ultima - and I think beat it after about 65 hours. Now I'm going back to my last save to continue leveling up and also finish getting the rest of the celestial weapons, jecht spheres, and overdrives.

I can't say enough how great this game is though - I'm not ashamed to state that the ending broke my heart

As far as the sphere grid, as others have said, just follow the linear path for awhile until you've gotten the hang of things. Then you should be able to see the advantages and disadvantages of branching out in any particular direction. Overall, I think the sphere grid was an EXCELLENT creation and I can only hope to see more of it in later FF games. It provided great balance - the exact opposite of FFVII's system which, for some reason, I used to love. While I still do, I've really come to appreceate the balance the sphre grid provides in making it hard to have any one character be good at everything.

And now I've rambled - hard not to do about this game - anyways, if you haven't gotten it, or beaten it, you must do so - it's great!

Yep, you're one of the first people I've seen say that FFX compared to FFVII. I LOVED FFVII. It was my favorite even throughout 8, 9, and Tactics. But after playing FFX, I have to say that it's at least on-par with FFVII. Some aspects are even better. The Sphere Grid was a very good idea. Some reviewers are saying that some characters weren't powerful enough, especially Wakka -- my Wakka was the second most powerful member in my party (behind the powerhouse known as Auron). By the end, Wakka was hitting for 6,000 damage. I only had 40 hours on my file at the end boss as well. The Sphere Grid allows each player to make the individual characters however they wish. That's what I enjoy about it. In order to beat the end boss, I had to make Yuna have the ability to cast Flare like Lulu. That, combined with Double-Cast is the only way I beat it.

FFX is easily the second best (or possibly THE best) of the Final Fantasy series from my experiences. Any RPG fans should play this game.

I actually like FFX more than FFVII. SecretMethod is right, the story is much more compelling. When I beat the game, i half way was not expecting it to end. Did anyone else feel depresed after they beat it?
