C&C Generals...

I just bought this game, and I'm still at work so I haven’t opened it. It was a impulse buy, I have plenty of games I haven’t played at home. Give me some Pro/Cons on whether I should keep it or return it?

Keep it.

It doesn't really break any major new ground, but it is very well done. If you liked the old C&C titles, you will really like this. Veterancy is actually worth something now. There are ways to "gather resources" beyond harvesting a finite resource. Air units can engage air and ground units.

Its pretty fun playing the GLA. Their armor can run "harvest" destroyed tanks and upgrade their own guns. Your suicide bombers can hop into cars and drive them to their final destination.

Graphics are good. I haven't experienced any bugs. Multiplay is fun.

I think its a keeper

All my friends that played it really liked it. I had a cracked copy but I could only play the first mission of each faction. The first mission was pretty fun.

i love the multiplay!mission were fun but lacked the storyline and movies from the earlier titles. multiplay and ranking system as well as graphics and interface make this a great game to own!

Keep it. It's good fun.
The campaigns are nothing special, they're pretty ordinary actually but the multiplayer is great.
What I like is the addition of buildings/units to every side that allow them to keep the money flowing in, so that when the resources run out the game doesn't turn into a stalemate.

Maybe

EA has made many strange decisions on the design in the game which ruin competitive play, such as being able to ALT+F4 out of the game when losing and not having the game count to your record. China also has a very large advantage overall vs GLA and they can also do a devastating rush against USA from which it is very hard to recover.

But, I suppose if you just want to play some friends in fun games Generals wont let you down. It can be very fun.

Sorry... but true, the game is not ballanced. Yet, it's a really enjoyable game. Keep it~

I certainly enjoy the single player aspect of the game. The levels are decent and the computer AI is pretty decent on "brutal." I don't have much of a chance for the multiplayer aspect, but that's not always possible with gaming and it's nice to know that a game you are buying has a good solo play. (The scenarios are okay... but I jumped right into skirmishes because I want to build everything immediately.)

My only beef with the game is that it takes a surprisingly good video card to avoid lag on a multiplayer system without having to put all graphics settings to basically nothing.

Oh, a second beef would be that it isn't politically correct... making the GLA and Chinese all sound like stereotypical foreign idiots. Not cool. I wish that there was a "smart" pack that would give them better sounds.

Its a cool game, but I personally think the computers are way too easy. They just die out, and kinda sucks can build infinite super weapons. Which leads to nothing is safe. But over all fun game to play with some friends.

Dump it. It's a dog. Missions are WAY TOO easy. ZERO challenge. Death animations take forever to finish.

Load on Warcraft III instead.

I am full agreement with elaphe. The game lasted about a day on my computer before I took it back. I can't even compare to the classics, Age of Empires or Star Craft. Hell its not even Age of Mythology. Junk it.

This is the first C&C Title I haven't rushed out to buy. I have heard VERY mixed reviews, and it has started to run it's course for me. I guess I am going to wait until it is 19.95.....

zero hour

i just got C&C Generals and Zero Hour Expansion Pack ... and this game rocks !!!

The expansion pack is great and the challenging mode is aweseome. The best RTS for a long time (next to WC3) but i love tanks a bit more then orcs and the gfx are simply stunning !

the best C&C i ever played

I just couldnt get into this one. The play seemed too choppy to me with it leading the player on too much. I beat the game in one night. It had potentional but I didnt care for it. Movie shorts at the start of each level that cant be turned off is highly annoying. You can go into the data files to turned them off but it seems to screw the game up in certain areas.

I know I have it back asswards here but I think Red Alert 2- Yuris is the best. Sure its cartoonish, but the play is much more independent and quicker paced.

was good but nothing special....
what really hacked me of was the lack of naval units and the fact there was no FMV's...... i loved all the old cc videos and this one i expected to see some well made vids..... but there was just none.
All right in "general" but seemed like a rushed effort to me... typical EA standard imo

If you liked previous C&C games, and are just looking for something that's amusing, then it's worth playing. If you're a serious gamer who wants to have some real balanced competition, then consider passing this one up. I thought it was okay to play around with friends when I was just feeling goofy, but I normally like to really compete in these RTS games, and this isn't good for that. In that case you might look to warcraft3 or something similar.

Whoever said it's not balanced should check out the online stats. For the most part, the win %'s are about 30% each, or 1/3 for each side.

While I thought this game was sweet when I first got it, It's so millions of times better playing it at a LAN or something with your friends... especially with the expansion. Since it's such a graphic intensive game (and EA never did good with multiplayer lag) it lags pretty bad online, but over a LAN with decent computers it's nice and smooth so you can enjoy the stunning effects.

Btw, you can limit superweapons in Zero Hour.
