What's the longest you've stayed up playing a video game?
 

Mine would have to be about 10 hours straight playin GTA3 Vice City when it first came out, how about you guys?

dunno exactly. but i pulled an allnighter once with my friend playing streetfighter2 for the snes.

Uh, I stayed up for 12 hours <8pm-8am> playing Knights Of the Old Republic. :)

I think I've played Counterstrike or Quake2 for 3-5 hours straight at one point. Talk about finger cramps.

3-5 hours for cs? Me and my clan went to a 24hour lan, which I crashed out after ~18-20 hours.. It was fun, but there were enough nerds to make me ashamed of myself.

48 hours after I bought the new Super Mario Bros 3 game for GBA.

Plenty have games have taken days at a time for me. Quake 1-3 multiplayer, Civilization 3, and Diablo II come to mind.

I've not really stayed up a long time playing a videogame, but I've played them a good percentage of a time period easily. When I played EQ a couple of years ago I would literally sleep 5 hours a night and play EQ 19 hours per day. That game is too damn addicting. Not very fun, either.

Can't beat that, but when I was sick from school I played SimCity every waking minute for 4 days ... although the medication kept knocking me out every couple of hours.

I have also done the 12 hour GTA:VC stretch and Alpha Centauri took my from 8 PM through to 6 AM a time or two.

A very long time ago, when Final Fantasy One(!) first came out for the NES, my buddy and I started playing it Saturday evening, and we beat it JUST in time to get to work at noon on Sunday. :)

Suikoden 1, 21 hours

Recently pulled a 10 hour stretch of NCAA Football 2004, damn that game is addictive. "Just one more game, it's a ranked game and I'm hot." "Wow, that was good, oh, here's a creampuff, I can beat them real quick." "Gotta play this one, it's the big game." "Bowl is just one more away, better finish the season off." "The bowl can't take that long." "Might as well do recruiting now." rinse, repeat.

6am for my first game of Counter Strike. It was funny because I knew i had to work at the college dining hall in the morning and I was on my last warning before getting fired. Well, the sun was coming up and I just said "fuck it" and unplugged my phone so they wouldn't disturb me at least. Next day when I was in the same dining hall for dinner I asked one of the student managers if I got canned and he said yep. :)

I can't really tell you about any specific time because it happens so often, but I've pulled many all nighters for various games. Medal of Honor, Morrowind, Halo, GTA3, Driver 2.

Driver 2 was pure hilarity. The game was so buggy. Loved it. Late at night you are all punchy and playing some horrible game like that, and all the sudden you launch a cop car a mile into the air after tapping its hood while it was stuck on its side.

I played Morrowind every waking hour for 2 months straight. I literally did nothing but sleep, eat, empty my waste, and let the dog out besides playing.

i´d say around 5 hours playing Vice City is my limit.
i really can´t stay playing a game for longer than that.
gives me headaches.

Those games are amazing. I played the first one three times through. I'm stuck at the end boss on Suikoden 2 and my characters aren't high enough level to beat it. :( You can't leave the dungeon and level-up, either. Blah. I want to beat it so I can play Suikoden 3.

100+ hours of play time in Knight of the old republic within 5.5 days. God I love that game, cant wait for it to come to the PC so I can play it again (I rented an xbox to play it the first time)

My current record is a 36 hour stint of a combination of Star Craft: Brood Wars, Counter-Strike, and Quake3. Lets hear it for 4 foot snow storms and being trapped in your apartment at college!

I came close this last week with 46 hours of Knights of the old Republic in 2.5 days. That was just numbing, but I didn't really do it straight through. Actually passed out on my couch at one point.

Well I had many a night playing X-COM UFO Defense (greatest game ever), casually looking at my watch to see what time it was, and noticing the sun rising through the window. All-nighters are a sign of a Truly Great Game.

That, and lan parties.

I'm not really sure, but with all my gaming, I'm positive I've pulled at least a 12 hour streak before.

I think in 94 or 95, a group of friends and I played hockey on Sega for 2 days straight, so 48+ hours for me. It was when the 4 person adapter just came out, and we were playing tournament style, and just never got tired of playing.

LAN parties aside, 12 hrs playing Phantasy Star Online, that game is so addictive...

Also Diablo 2 and Golden Eye have taken significant amounts of my life away from me.

I think it's supposed to be almost impossible to stay up for this long without sleep, nevertheless after constant use of your brain (so not including something like meditation). I call you a bluff or an exaggerator! ;)

I can't remember how many hours total I've played for straight, however when I was binging on Diablo 2 I would play from ~2:30pm (after school on friday) until at least 5am with only a pizza break which was usually eaten while I was playing :D Then I'd sleep until noon and start again for as long as possible. So I was pushin solid 12.5 hour sessions during those days. Not bad, never really thought about how much time I was playing!

80 hours of Diablo 2 when Lord of destruction came out.. It hurt.. even with several half an hour naps, I dont think my brain, lungs or liver will ever be the same. We did however write the rules of staying up.. I will post them some time.

I didn't really want to keep track how much I used to play Everquest, but lets just say it was many long nights followed by long days. Damn that game.

Back in the days of hell lvls in everquest before they took them out i got from lvl 43-46v (45 being the worst hell lvl pre 51+'s) I played from friday morning all the way through to around 11:00 pm on saturday, then passed out.

3 days playing the first Baldurs Gate.

Hmm longest single game...about 4 hours against 7 or some odd number of comps on Warcraft II. Longest marathon...12 or so hours.

I played Everquest for 30 hours straight once. There were about 3 breaks where I had a smoke, but I kept the game on...

Hahaha You wont believe it, but my friend and I stayed up from 8-6am playing this computer video game my brother installed for me..its*hangs head in shame* Old Fashioned BubbleBubble. They are just too cute!

lol, that game ruled. I played that on the PS1 for God knows how many f'n hours once.

Oh man, Diablo 2 LOD. Good God, the most addicting thing ever. HOURS AND HOURS!!! Cow runs, Meph runs, rushing people, Dueling, Wheeling and Dealing in the trade channels. My friends and I finally had to uninstall the game after about a year and we havn't played it since.

If it's a really good game probably about 1am.

HOWEVER, Final Fantasy 8 had me up to about 4 am (from starting at 1pm) once, such a beautiful game.

10+ hours logged easy playing Socom:navy seals into the wee hours of the night.

I dont know the exact time, but I have spent the better half of a day playing TFC.

Back in the days of my EQ addiction it was no problem for me to play 20+ hours at a time with a 6pack of Diet Coke and assorted snacks on my lap.

Scary thing is I'm actually thinking of reactivating my account.

Not sure about my record for playing one game straight, but it was probably Baldur's Gate 2. I finished that monster in about 4-5 days, exploring everywhere and doing all the subquests. Prolly around 20 hours. Thank god I'm not that badly addicted to my computer any more.

I think the longest i have ever played is, Morrowwind, or diablo 2 for at least 8-10 hours.

I usually took 4 hour naps and played from 10am-6am when I played Diablo 2 hardcore one summer.

I've pulled many all-nighters as a kid with many of the games I had then (Bionic Commando, Sonic and Knuckles, Boogerman, Contra, Super Mario 3, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, EarthWorm Jim...probably afew more, too). The last all-nighter I think I've pulled though was when Mario Party was new. Of course, I've still had alot of late-night playing since then.

Just under 72 hours straight for EQ back in the day.

i beat final fantasy VII in 6 days. in the middle of gameplay i had to go out and actually buy a memory card to continue. i roughly had 120+ hours on that game not including the several times i had to continue or mini breaks to nap and eat

metroid prime. from when i got it around like 3ish. till 5 in teh morning. thats like 14 hours.... i did stop to eat dinner and stuff though.... =)

Oh man! Guardian Legend! I stayed up for 3 straight days playing Guardian Legend cause that game was awe inspiring. It's like Zelda crossed with Raiden Trad with a little Crystalis mixed in for flavor. I still go back and play the heck out of Guardian Legend every now and again... these days though, I have the luxury of emulation and save states.

Those old school passwords were such a huge pain. For example, games with password features that rendered the game almost unplayable: Legacy of the Wizard, River City Ransom, Guardian Legend. Ante up, I'm curious if anyone else remember these colossal pains in the ass.

The last game was KOTOR. Got up saturday morning about 7am and played till 3am the next day. I just kept telling myself "OK, I'll finish this part and then quit" but it never happened.

The worst are those game where you get so engrossed that you dream about them at night and spend all day at work thinking through strategies and then can't wait to get home and try them out. I've woken from dreams at 4am and had to get up and play for a couple hours then go back to bed at 6 or 7.

but yea, it was a 24 hour lan, and I managed to stay up all 24 hours of it playing CS tourneys and pubs all day and night and day long

I stayed up for 2 nights playing Animal Crossing nonstop when it first came out.

I spent bout 24 hours playing a halo turnament with my buds, it was a huge game capture the flag to 30 points and with 8 ppl total playing, it took a long fucking time, we lost tho :( but by only one point so thats not 2 bad

I played Fallout 2 for almost 3 days before I fell asleep. When I woke up I started playing again. I lived off of peanut butter toast, and did that for a week, only sleeping when I didnt have the energy to move the mouse...

I played Ultima Online for 23ish hours once. They had an hour down-time for maintanence every morning at 10am, so I started when it came up, and played all day, all night, all morning until it went back down.

I installed Hearts of Iron and had the game speed set to a slower setting. By the time 1945 rolled along I had been playing it for over 15 hours.

I couldn't look at a computer screen for a week after that.

Civilization III has taken a couple of full weekends from me. That game is great!

Without a nap about 30 hours of Tecmo Superbowl tourny, wasnt playing full time though.

I also played alot of daoc, but I don't think I ever got a chance to play it for really really extended periods of time... get disconnected and dont feel like reconnecting and stuff like that..

I remember getting together with my buddies and playing NHL91 from Friday to Monday. Lot's of Whiskey and smoke :)

Back in college I'd play EQ pretty much all weekend. Order 2 large pizzas, buy 1 get 1 free coupons rock, on Friday night and eat pizza and play EQ all weekend. About 8 hours Friday night, then 15 hours each on Saturday and Sunday. Glad I graduated and broke the addiction.

I think 12-14hrs was my longest on the old Dragon Warrior for Nintendo

when motor city online(now defunct) came out i played around 6-12 hours a day

hmmm well i have prolly only gone about 48 hours or so straight on cs. however my friend has gone to a couple 3 day lans but i think he slept for a couple hours. my dad and a bunch of his cs clan use to go to one of the guys offices that had a t1 line split between another biulding over the weekend and chill there for about 48 hours or so. of corse most the time he would come back for a couple hours make sure shits okay and then go stright back but it was good clean fun. gotta love the 2-7 ping in pubs ;) although the best has to of been when we were runing servers outa our livin room and had a 1.5/1.5 adsl line and i was getting about 5-10 ping everywhere in my own living room. ahhh lpb's bitching about my ping.

ive had 4 hour games of natural selection, thta was fun, as for LAN's ive gone for 2 days straight befor (36 hours) befor the cafein would do no more.

About 35 hours straight playing EverQuest when Planes of Power came out. I got two characters from 60-65 in two weeks when that expansion hit.

Close friend of mine EQ'd for about 70-75 hours straight, then slept the following two next days. Was a great time. :)

I'm saddend that I've only seen one other mention of Goldeneye. During highschool, weekends would consist of (assuming we didn't have a production to put on) VG sleep overs, where we stock on Dew,Pepsi,Coke, zebra cakes, chips, and any other snack food, and Papa Johns pizza. And then, Goldeneye for probably 10-12 hours at least I think. God, I love and miss that game. Archives, Remote Mines ONLY!!!, No Odd Job, One Hit kills....the memories. :)

...Beating that annoying kid with sticks who kept calling "SLAPPERS ONLY!!! SLAPFEST 2000!" The duel dds and how awesome they were. The sound of the outside doors opening in the Severnaya bunker. Oh, and did ANYONE ever play the basement level only? fuckin box. Those were the days....

I would say 14 hours is about the longest i have played a game. It was between Ultima Online, Counter-Strike, and DAoC.

Im not sure exactly how long it was but it had to have been a few days playing this game called Motor City Online. good game til they decided to discontinue it in august.

I've spent alot more hours on the old sega cd rpgs, but I'd usually take breaks for sleep and wander around the outdoors aimlessly.

My job is to sit in a box with computer racks all around me and just 'monitor' the network for 12 hours a day. While 'monitoring' I play ps2 the entire time. I've done this almost every day for the past 8 months or so, add that up and thats almost 2880 hours! beat that!

A long time. I think I was addicted to Diablo in college. Probably stayed up all night playing it.

Now I try to limit myself to reasonable time length. But those hours tend to just fly by, don't they....

Friends and I would just stay in my basement all the live long day, all through the night. I dont know hrs but 8 hours was usual... between food and short bouts of sleep. We had LAN parties like every weekend.

But the biggest stretches had to be with FF7 or X, Probably between 12 and 14 hours just at the foot of my bed w/ my GF, playing. Have around 160 hours into FF7, closing in on 300 for X!

I pulled a 10pm-8am at the local LAN place, mainly playing Battlefield. Now that was good fun. :D
