FFXI performance?
Does anyone know which system FFXI runs better on? I don't know if I should get the pc version or the ps2 version. Here are my computer specs:
1.4ghz p4 512mb rdram 64mb geforce 3 I ran the benchmarks but it wouldn't give me a score or anything. It stuttered a lot but that could be normal. |
The benchmark was supposed to give you a score. I just took a look at the score right before it ended. It said my PC was well above average for the needs of FFXI. Here's my setup:
1.61 GHz Athlon XP 1900+ 768 MB PC2100 DDR RAM GeForce 4 TI4200 128 MB My PC is by no means top-of-the-line or even up to date, but it did get nearly the highest score on the benchmark test. I'll still only play FFXI if it gets good reviews. I won't play a crappy MMORPG whether it has the Final Fantasy title or not. -Lasereth |
And where is this Benchmark you speak of?
|
I reinstalled it and right before the bench ended my score was about 2500 which is just above even match. However, do you think the PS2 version would run better? I know the graphics probably wouldn't be as good, but I'm more worried about performance.
|
By the way, you can download the bench tool here: http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/index.shtml
|
http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/benchmark.html here you go. I scored a high score my self, and ive basicly got what laserath has. Ive played this game, and its awesome, i will recomend it to everyone of you. Ill pay all they ask. I cant wait. For those of you wondering if your computer can handle this, there is a score guide with the bench mark. This is benchmark 2 so if the first one didnt work, you might want to try this one out.

Oh and it just makes since if you have a good pc to go with that version, for many reasons.
Comes out first, oct 28 vs. feb. Updates, patches dont have to spend 50 on a hard drive that your computer already has. (ps2 version REQUIRES a Harddrive, it will be bundled with FFXI for 99 dollars) Better graphics, plus you already have the keyboard. Also, if you buy a ps2 to usb adapter from radioshack (like me) you can configure it to play just like the PS2 version, it even has the menu to do so! Im sure there are more reasons, but i think PC is the way to go. |
If it gets good reviews I'll probably play it on PC simply because I can't stand using a keyboard not on a desk. My TV in my dorm is...well, over there, and my desk is right here. I can't play with a keyboard in my lap! :(
If the PS2 version does get better reviews than the PC version I might come up with a solution, though. -Lasereth |
IckUber it would be cool if we could get on the same server cause i'm most deffinately going to play, is it still random server choice or whatever?
|
What exactly happens with the ps2 to usb adapter, IckUber? (by the way did you mean ps/2, or playstation 2? If it's the latter, I'd really love to hear about this) I apologize that I haven't read anything about this setup and would love to know more. How would the PC version play like the PS2 version?
Thanks! *edit* one more thing, where do you find the score chart for the benchmark? Mine was at 3916 when it stopped, I suppose that's my end score. |
To Beltruckus:
I think it's still random, but for 1,000 Gill, you can purchace a world pass, and create a new character on any server you want. I dont know why square cant just let us pick our servers.....but this is what me and my freinds are doing, there is about 5 of us, so it might be a while before we are all together. Although, we might just create character after character untill we get all on an agreed server. Trust me, when i get the game, i will post comments, and try to orginize something, maybe play with a few of you guys! |
cool i have about 4 other friends that are going to play this at lauch also. is 1000 gil hard to get?
|
To Glytch:
Radioshack sells a PlayStation 2 to USB adapter. 10 dollars. http://members.cox.net/drzeaius/ps21.jpg http://members.cox.net/drzeaius/ps2.jpg http://members.cox.net/drzeaius/ps22.jpg I used this controller, to play FFXI, i had full control over what each button did. It was great, and I will play FFXI with the controler, and type with the key board. Im very, very glad square is giving us this option. ( you can find it in the FFXI setup menu, a seperate program from the game) So with this controller, you can replicate the ps2 settings, and make it IDENTICAL! Here are the scores. Cannot run - 999: "Too Weak" PC Unfortunately, we assume that the specifications of your computer do not meet requirements to run FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows. If you have this score even though your computer meets the minimum system requirements, please adjust the software resident on your PC. If your computer does not meet the minimum system requirements, please consider upgrading your machine. 1000 to 1499: "Easy Prey" PC We assume that your computer can run FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows. However, your frame rate may drop when in a party with lots of effects or in crowded cities. You should set the game settings (such as resolution and texture) as low as possible. In addition, if these symptoms bother you, you may consider upgrading your computer (such as increasing the amount of memory or upgrading your graphics card, etc). 1500 to 1999: "Decent Challenge" PC We assume that your computer can easily run FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows with the default settings. If the frame rate bothers you when you run FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows, you may change the game settings (resolution or texture settings, etc) or adjust the display of weather effects. 2000 to 2499: "Even Match" PC We assume that your computer can run FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows enjoyably with the default settings. You should be able to play easily with weather effects on. 2500 to 2999: "Tough" PC We assume that your computer can run FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows enjoyably with the default settings. If your video card exceeds the recommended system requirements, we recommend that you increase the resolution of FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows. FINAL FANTASY XI might run just as smoothly as in low resolution mode. 3000 to 3999: "Very tough" PC We assume that your computer can run FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows enjoyably with the default settings. If your video card exceeds the recommended system requirements, it may be possible to run "FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows" easily even in high resolution mode. 4000 or above: "Incredibly tough" PC We assume that your computer can run FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows incredibly well with the default settings. If your video card exceeds the recommended system requirements, it may be possible to run FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows easily even in high resolution mode or with bump mapping enabled. 7000 or above: "Impossible to gauge" We assume that your computer can run FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows excellently with the default settings. If your video card exceeds the recommended system requirements, we recommend that you try out various configuration settings of FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows. |
1000 gill, hrm, i think its a good few hours, selling everything you found, and that sucks. But i guess its worth it to play with your friends......... I still think it should be free.
|
Yeah it seems pretty lame that they do this, I wonder if it will turn some people away, like big guilds that might move from other games.
|
Hmm....is it recommended to run the benchmark on hi or low res? I ran mine on high.
|
i ran mine on high too, so i can see the full potential of my computer. Trust me, when you play the game, you will want it in high resolution.
|
I can't wait. Thanks so much for that ps2 to USB link, I'm DEFINATELY picking that up. I hope to see some of you in game.
|
I know this is a tad bit off of topic, however, is there any plan to release FFXI for the XBOX?
Also, is there one of those controller adapters for XBOX as well?? |

BTW I just ordered one of these controllers, really good for emulators.
http://www.merconnet.com/images/main44.jpg You can find one herehttp://www.merconnet.com/products.php?ProductID=44 |

Well, even if you dont have a ps2, the ps2 is the best universal controller. So I would still recomend it. I dont know if they make an X-Box one, they dont at Radio Shack, but im sure its out there. And NO, they will not make a Final Fantasy For the X-Box. Sorry. It's going to be a long time before you see Final Fantasy not on PS2, or GameCube.
|
ok so I downloaded the benchmark but it won't run it gives me an Err Code = 3 and some wierd symbols
|
Thats odd. Try E-mailing square..... Sorry Beltruckus.

Wow im glad I read this thread. I didn't know they made adapters for ps2 controllers for the computer. That really helps because my ps1 took a shit so i have to play all my games on my computer with an emulator.
|
Oh and PS1 controllers work too!
|
This thread just got jacked. ;)
|
Quote:
??? I dont understand? How did it get jacked?[ |
Because we're talking about the PS to USB adapters now instead of FFXI performance. Such is life, eh?
|
Luckily I'm probably gonna have a new comp by the time XI comes out... My current comp can't run the game at all :(
|
Well i still think that this is an important part of the performance of ffxi, the ps2 usb adapter makes the game way better. And the thread starter asked which version of the game was better, and I told him pc for obvious reasons. Try reading the progresion of the thread.
