game prices
I just happened to be reading gamesman.com as a link from another thread here, and I noticed you yanks are paying 90 bucks a pop for a pc game. Is that normal?
A brand new PC release in this country is roughly £30, which only converts at $50. How comes you guys are getting stiffed on this shit? Normally it's us limeys who pay over the odds compared to other countries. |

90 bucks? Not here.. New games average 30-60. very few people here pay 60 bucks for a game, unless they were highly anticipating it. 40-50 would be the general average, but many people here apparently go for the 30's as well, my personal range for a newer game is 30-45 (with a 5$ margin of error)... if its above I make sure i'm going to like it before I buy it.
Btw, I started a thread about game prices, and what people like.. No one mentioned 90 bucks Here's the link: Game Prices Thread Oh btw... can you link to this 90 dollar game? I'm a little surprised about this.

hehe... yep... down under we pay about $100 per new game.
thats about $US60... and about 40 quid. looks like we have to pay the most. but if Kiwi´s are only paying $90, well thats just unfair... and yet another reason for Australia to annex NZ (j/k)

hahaha, 90USD? No way - most I've ever seen was $50 and that's for the seriously anticipated games. The majority of the time it's $40 and sometimes $30

most bundles offer the 2nd game at a discount or both a discount depending on how you look at it. I've never seen a bundle for over $70. Even the Blizzard battle chest bundles (Warcraft Battle Chest) are $49.99

I guess there have been a few in the $75 range. They're usually the ones that are "collectors editions" in the metal boxes with little pewter figurines and cloth maps and such. Not many of those around thou.
I'm a big time video game/computer game collector and have been for the last 20 years. I've pulled out some of my old games which still had the original receipt. Some of those games for say the Sega Genesis sold for $64.99 new (USD). I have one that I paid $100 for. It was a Genesis racing game that had some kind of 3D chip built into the cartridge. So in reality, games are really a bargain considering how much more development time goes into them nowadays. |

Lunar 2 is the highest priced game I have @ $64... but it came with a hardback instuction booklet, an Omake box, with a pendant, map and soundtrack plus a boxing puppet. Well worth the money if you like stuff like that..
Steel Batalion for Xbox is like $200+ but it comes with that huge ass controller... Other than that, I've noticed game prices going down. There are alot more games coming out at 39$ now than just a few years ago.

The highest I've ever paid for any game, PC or otherwise, was $80 for Street Fighter II when it first came out on the SNES. Lately, I hit the pawn shops when trolling for games- they've got brand new stuff that people get bored of quickly, and I haven't paid over $20 for a game in a good while.

Wherever they are selling i still think they are a little overpriced.
Hardly ever buy new unless i really want the title. Usually trade in. Most of time only have to wait couple of weeks.

Aggh, I was such a little SFII Zionist that I HAD to have it on the day it was released. Blew all my lawnmowing scratch from the entire summer (I got every penny's worth, and then some out of it, though). I do think the price got more reasonable by the time December rolled around.
I think that $80 was about the most expensive any SNES game ever got, but for a good while a lot were hovering at $64.99, or $70 after tax.

eBay and used games man. I don't need a game as soon as it comes out (well, unless its a sports game. I just forked over $50 to reserve Inside Drive 2004. Only reason I want that asap is for the online play. Otherwise, I will save my money and buy someone's used copy off eBay for like $25.
