I know this has already been breifly discussed here. But I wonder if anyone else has played the retail version of this game.
I'm working through it now, and so far I'm agreeing with a lot of what people are saying... the micromanagement of weapons and inventory sucks. The graphics are pretty good, but not superb, and the 'story' is just awful. Listening to the bad voice talent bang out that cheesy script is painful at best. They have incorporated an augmentation system similar to that found in Deus Ex, except they butchered it and made it not very cool at all. Instead of picking which augmentations you get, they just throw some new ones at you in the begining of each mission. Their explaination for augmentations seems pretty lame as well. Another thing I've noticed is that there are still some bugs in this one. For example, if you remap the key to get in and out of vehicles (which is default 'E'), sometimes you get stuck in a turret and can't leave! I think they hardcoded the letter 'E' for exiting instead of using the event trigger. [edit] Remembered another thing I dislike about this one. The load times for each level are horrible! I'm not saying I've got a super machine or anything, but it's well above the minimal requirements and levels take around 5 minutes to load. I think its because the levels are so massive, which is cool, but they should've opted for a partial mission loading scheme. There are some performace issues too, where the game will be running fine, then drop to 5 FPS for no apparent reason. This game is just getting worse. [/edit] As always, I'm gonna reserve my final judgement until I acutally finish this thing, or get so sick of it that I can't play anymore. What about you guys, whatdya think of this game? Haha, yeah the game sucks (so far). Luckily I didn't pay for it, loaned it from work. The story is incredibly sad, it's like took every cliche from every bad film and chucked it into this game. Don't get me started on voice acting, *shudder*, I wish game developers would give their lead roles natural voice instead of crappy-hard-boiled-my-nuts-are-hung-below-my-knees voices.
Freedom Fighters comes out tomorrow so that'll hopefully clense this crap out of my system. |

You did ring on two of the most annoying points for me, the excessive load times (what is it doing, decompressing the entire level?) and the barely passable voice acting.
My aunt had a saying, "If you swear, say it like you mean it!" These days, if the dialogue doesn't sound bad enough, the swearing is so poorly acted it makes me cringe! I'll be honest, I stopped at mission 13. After shooting, hacking computer with "classic concentration" technology and shooting some more, I broke when hearing that one Asian chick who's name evades me. I didn't even put the save games anywhere, after 14 hours of playing, I went to straight uninstall. I borrowed the damn thing, and I'm telling my friend to return it ASAP. He got sidetracked on the other game he got, and it just leaves a bad aftertaste to play this one. Addendum: The other game he got was Freedom Fighters. I'm waiting to play that one, but I saw him play the first three-area level. Now that's much better voice acting. I was sold when I realized that IO Interactive (Hitman 2!) made it, but it looks like fun. Heck, it was fun to watch, which I can't say if I was a spectator in Chrome.
