Metal Gear Solid 3
Is anyone else anxiously awaiting Metal Gear Solid 3? I sure know I can't wait for it. Especially since I heard rumors that it may be a prequel and the character could very well be Big Boss and not Solid Snake.

Man, after Metal Gear Solid 2 came out, I haven't really cared at all about the upcoming Metal Gear Solid games. I don't even care about Twin Snakes, which is only a remake of the first one. It's sort of like waiting for Episode II, and then seeing it. I don't care at all about Episode III simply because II sucked so bad. Metal Gear Solid II was simply a huge fuck up in the plot/storyline department. The only reason Metal Gear Solid II was hyped up so much was the fact that everyone wanted to know what happened to Solid Snake next. Now I really don't care because the plot is messed up so bad. On top of that, MGS 3 takes place in the 1960's, ruling out any possibility that you play as Snake. In other words, Big Boss is the playable character. Since Liquid and Solid were simply genetic clones of Big Boss, that's why he looks exactly like Solid.
I'm also not entirely sure that placing a Metal Gear game in the outdoor/wooded area is a good idea. Kojima never fails to impress, however. The only reason I'm even midly interested in MGS3 is because the mastermind himself (Kojima) is still the main designer for it. Aside from Nintendo's Miyamoto, he's the number 1 videogame badass in the world. I'm actually more interested in (but not really looking forward to) Twin Snakes than MGS3, simply because it will be the first game to combine the two greatest game developers in the world: Hideo Kojima and Shigeru Miyamoto. -Lasereth

I thought Metal Gear Solid 2 had an OK story, although I think Metal Gear Solid the original beat it overall. I'd sa I liked MGS1 better than MGS2, and I'll buy MGS3 because I like the Metal Gear series. But I do have a question, when does Twin Snakes come out? Spacemonkey, you may not wanna play the PSX version of Metal Gear Solid, but the Gamecube remake is on it's way, and I trust you'll check it out, right? Heh.

Personally I refuse to accept MGS2 as a legit part of the MGS franchise. To me it was a game that was made in Malaysia by a guy in his garage that somehow got released into the wide market.
"If you're not gonna let me play as Snake then quite frankly you can choke on cock and die." -from another forum. Well said. At least let us play as a cool character, not some bitch who's prettier than his girlfriend. I still play MGS1 on my PC from time to time, stellar game. |

Really looking forward to MGS3 myself. I was a bit upset that we had to play as that Raiden dude in MGS2.

MGS1 is truely incredible; I still wish I had that game. MGS2 is a great game, too...but it's not MGS1 by any means. I was about to go play MGS2 'til I saw this thread...I hope MGS3 will bring the game to new hieghts in terms of fun, but if it's as good as MGS2 I'll be plenty happy.

Alright, question. What was so wrong with Raiden anyway? I mean yeah he didn't have the scraggly look Snake did or anything like that, but I don't see why people hated him so much. After all he was a trained killer to, ya know. So I'm just wondering why people hated him so much.

I didn't really mind playing as Raiden, it was the simple fact that the story sucked in the game that made me disappointed with MGS2. Hell, you play WITH Snake for part of the game, and that was Kojima's main idea with the second one.

Aren't most killers the 'hard to believe they are a killer' type though? and Spacemonkey brings up a good point, Raiden could give Snake a run for his money in a fight.

Why are we complaining about Raiden when ROSE is in the game?!? Please, it's like trying to put out a match while a grease-fire is errupting in the same room.

Yeah, and then after he was done looking in the mirror to see if he still looked good, he would FUCK SNAKE UP! Please, you can't honestly tell me Raiden couldn't take Snake. I mean, i like Snake too but come on, Raiden is a trained killer, even if he is a pretty boy.

The only fucking Raiden would be doing is up the Colonel's ass.
lol, sorry I just really despise Raiden and the fact that Kojima lied to the fans by having a trailer that showed Snake in ALL of Raiden's situations thus giving the distinct impression that you can actually play as Snake for more than 3% of the game. Regardless MGS3 should 0wn j00 a11! |

I don't really mind having a new character like Raiden, I just hope there's not any more characters for a long long time besides Snake and Raiden. They're both good in their own way, but (to me) Snake is untouchable, and that's why Raiden just isn't as cool. I had enough fun just teaming up with Snake in MGS2 though, so I'm easily entertained.

I am eagerly awaiting Snake Eater... I loved the first MGS games, even though the second one made me go "psshaw" quite a few times. Story aside, the gameplay was awesome and the story wasn't terrible enough to keep me from wanting to move forward, so I think the third one is going to be great as well.

The fact that the guards can't call more guards in will be interesting. Also, I wanna see how they do the food bit.
I am sure it will be great. 2 was excellent in the gameplay dept, if somewhat lacking in story. And playing as Big Boss should be cool. Maybe it will shed some light onto why he becomes a bad guy... |

Yeah, that'd be interesting if you play as Big Boss. I wonder how that'll work out.

And for the record, Raiden could probably beat Solid Snake as they stand today, Snake has aged a bit and Raiden is youthful, and you can't say Snake is a trained killer or whatever because so is Raiden, so although it would be good, Raiden would probably win. Another reasonfor this is how many Metal Gears has Snake takn on? 2 or 3 right? In MGS2 Raiden killed like 20, so now can you tell me Raiden has absolutely no chance to beat Solid Snake?

And, Deflok, I don't recall ever hearing Kojima say that you would play as Snake through the whole game, do you? He didn't lie, because he never said it. What he did was deceive you.

Give me a break. You can play as Snake in Substance, but it doesn't matter. The playable areas with Snake have NOTHING to do with the actual main plot of the game. Just because you're playing with Snake on Big Shell doesn't mean you're playing MGS2 with Snake. When fans say they wanted to play as Snake, they mean they want to play the game WITH the main plot as Snake.
A few side-missions (mostly going along with a "This is what COULD have happened theory) as Snake instead of Raiden may be sort of cool, but it doesn't change the fact that you're not playing MGS2 as Snake. The fans wanted a sequel to MGS still playing as the legendary badass himself, not a sequel that Kojima thought he'd experiment with. I believe that Metal Gear Solid 3 would have been a good experimentation game where Kojima could change the playable characters if he wanted, but to add that aspect to the sequel of the most popular PSX game of all time was a bad idea. Gamers want a sequel that has a captivating plot; one that has to do with Solid Snake, and one that unfolds with not only Snake but the characters surrounding him. Ok, we got that in MGS2, but it simply doesn't work well unless you're playing as Snake. -Lasereth

The people that get so uptight about not getting to play as Snake all the time in MGS2, some people make it sound like it ruined the game when it wasn't really that big of a deal.

It ruined the plot, not necessarily the game. Some people wanted to see what happened next in the plot over what gameplay features were added, and those people were disappointed the most. I was, for one. Most reviewers reviewed MGS2 on it's gameplay and experience, not necessarily the plot. I believe IGN commented that playing as Raiden was a joke, but the gameplay and story-telling was so good that it almost "overrode" the weak plot.

I thought the plot of MGS2 had it's good points and cheesy points.
I hope that in MGS4 or whatever, you play as Snake himself, and since they are training soldiers in the same way Snake fought in MGS1 (ie: Raiden), maybe there could be boss enimies that went through the same training, only for use of the Patriots... If Kojima has an overall idea as to what he wants to do, it could turn out well, and MGS2's plot could end up not being as wacky as we may of originally thought. |
