I still get a kick out of the games, too. Can't seem to get bored of the cheating rampage, myself.

I just went and bought GTA3 for myself this afternoon because I'm moving away from my roommate's PS2. It wasn't that long ago, but it did bring back memories. I think I'll like having it around again...

I've played more than my share of the GTA games... so I'm pretty burnt out on them at the moment. I'll be playing the next one a lot though.

GTA gets tiring after a few weeks of play...
But a few weeks after that: It's carjacking time!

Love the series, for now Rockstar has guaranteed me as a customer for the whole future of the series!

If you actually play the game it's mean to be played, the series isn't made for replay value. It's made to deliver a crime story with the main character growing in power throughout his crime adventure. Do the missions and actually beat the plot of the game; that's what makes the GTA games amazing. Not cheating and car-jacking only; doing those things WHILE actually playing the missions and plot of the game is what makes it so fun.

I haven't played GTA3 or GTA: VC since I beat them. They are still absolutely incredible games. If you play them simply to kill people and drive around car-jacking, then sure, it will get old. But like I said, those games aren't meant to be played just to crash and kill. They are meant to be played to deliver a story, and that they do VERY well.

nah - i think that they still have lots of fun stuff in the games - its not untill you beat the ENTIRE game that it gets boring - even after that - the game isnt boring - either way - what a great set of games - never played the original GTA - but have 2,3,and VC - always get a kick out of them

Only played VC, but I really enjoyed it. Spent a few hours every coupla days plugging away at it. When I beat, I doubt I touched it again except to do a few minor things that I'd not done prior to beating it. I haven't touched it in months and likely won't.

Great stort, minimal replay value. Then again, I've rarely played games that were worth replaying.

I just finished Vice City. I liked it a bit better than GTA III, but GTA III had a better final cut scene.

Not meaning to hijack the thread but I've got Vice City and can't for the life of me beat the Dildo Dodo mission, this is the first time ever that a game has outright defeated me and I won't have any part of it!!! Anyone out there who could lend a hand by say, sending this way a savegame directly after that mission or something to that extent? Thanks.

Although vice city was good, it wasn't different enough to last as long as GTA3 did. I think when they bring out GTA4 with a new engine it will be good.

A new engine for GTA4? Oh shit. They better not mess with the engine. They tweaked it a little bit from GTA3 to GTAVC, but not enough to hurt it. Rockstar has the best damn adventure/shooter engine out there. Most games that try that fail miserably, like Driver 2. All I want is a new story in GTA4. Hell, they can keep the graphics the same and the gameplay the same, a new story is all they need. Sort of like GTA3 to GTAVC. That's probably why Vice City did so well. If it's not broke, sure as hell don't fix it.

I hope they have a new engine for GTA4. Otherwise GTA is gonna be the new tomb raider, where the graphics and gameplay never get better, and eventually it sucks so bad as to be a joke.

I have mixed feelings about the series. I love the car radio stations, and the driving and fucking around is good times, but the missions get tiresome after a while. I would imagine that GTA has the highest number of people who call it their favorite game but haven't beaten it.

I must disagree, Lasereth. I've only have yet to play GTA3 and started with the original GTA (DMA software did a good job).

What critics failed to see in the original GTA was the free flowing nature of the game which made aim-less carjacking THE high point of the game. The missions were interesting, but running from the cops in a functioning city making your own rules. Gathering cop cars. Seeing how long you could go. Playing. This functioning city, a dinamic place to to play, is the kind of model that Shigeru Miyamoto always drawn from: a kind of "garden" where people could explore, interact, and play.

As the series matured, I respect the style and voice in the plot line and missions. Many of the voice actors in Vice City are actors from the silver screen.

At the same time, I cannot ignore what makes the series work IMHO: interactive/ functioning/ living environments where the player is free to explore. In this case, lead edge-of-your-seat car chases.

Post note: The kind of freedom (a game without "high scores" and lineiar design) that Miyamoto drew from is changing interactive entertainment from something somewhat flat and straightforward to rich expirinces where the expirence is different and changes constantly. We see this in games far back such as SimCity to now in the world of Everquest.

I didn't like GTA3 at all. However, I love Vice City. It's odd, since they aren't worlds apart; I guess Vice City's environment is just a lot more interesting.

I stopped playing GTA3 a while ago, but I had Vice City installed, but hadn't gotten around to playing with it. Now I'm blasting through it like crazy. I think it is harder that GTA3, but being able to own properties and make $ off of them has hooked me.
