Am I the only one who thinks that games like BF 1942 and CS are just inane, boring and vapid wastes-of-time? Just groups of stangers running around killing the same newbies over and over until they give up and then turning on each other for a lark! To me it lacks a certain degree of sophistication, brains, coordination, etc. Is it just me?

i like them purly for a quick frag fest... but I'm not one that plays online for hours and hours at a time. I do like WC3 online though... Especially since I have a bunch of friends out in Denver who I play against... It's nice to know your adversaries, and learn their weaknesses only to find out they know yours too etc... FUN FUN

Yep, I would think you're pretty alone in this view. Escpecially when your talking about people who frequent a 'gaming' forum. I'll be the first one to admit there are some idiots in online gaming, just there to ruin the experience for others. But when these people aren't around, it rocks. To me, there's just a higher level of satisfaction when you beat a live person.

There are different levels of online gaming. WW2Online has a much higher level of strat and an older user base. Of course it is pay for play. Some of the newer more tactics based shooters from the Tom Clancy series seem to require some skill. When I felt like I wasn't being challenged on MOHAA anymore, I went to a rifle only server or a 1 death per round type of server. You can up the ante if you want. You don't need to dive into to a pool of l33t kiddies who'll pwn you (or at least fill you chat window telling you how they will.)
