Fighting Games - 2D or 3D?

Which style do you prefer?

While I love a good game of Tekken as much as the next guy, my tastes run more on the 2-D side, everything's more straightforward and more over-the-top. I enjoy myself more when I play Guilty Gear or Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 or Capcom vs. SNK 2. (I wish Capcom would make an 'Everybody vs. Everybody' game and be done with the whole thing), while playing Tekken or Soul Calibur can feel more like piloting a plane sometimes.

While Dead or Alive is an absolutely a-mazing game...

Nothing beats plugging into Marverl vs. Capcom 2 with my friend and beating the living bejesus out of each other.

I am pretty deep into both - but since my fav fighting game is Tekken 4 I'd have to say 3D. I do, however, have many 2D games in my list of favorites...

2D is what i grew up with and its my favorite. Marvel vs. Capcom 2(dreamcast version) is by far the best fighting i have ever played. Although i do love the 3D fighting games a lot, tekken tag, tekken 4, DoA 3, and Soul Calibur are great. I cannot wait for Soul Calibur 2.

so to answer the question, 2d.
Oh and the dreamcast version of marvel vs. capcom was good but it was slower than the arcade version which really pissed me off.

Tekken 4 is godly, however the classic 2D fighters own, I still love Mortal Kombat 2 and the Street Fighter Alpha's.

I don't really find a noticeable difference between 2d and 3d while playing. When it comes to fighting games, you're pretty much forced to focus on your opponent, so either way there is a degree of directness to it.

I'm sure every console has an arcade stick whether made by the company or a third party.

Definately 2d! And that goes for ALL games. I guess I'm biased because it's what I grew up with.

I gotta go with 3-d, one of my first fighters was not Mortal Kombat I, it was Virtua Fighter II or III, not sure which, for the Sega Saturn. Man I loved that game and it was 3-d, early 3-d I'll be it but 3-d non the less! Now I love Powestone I and II and Soul Calibur!

2d.. i worked at namco and quickly burned out of the Tekken series after playing it for months on end. I havent played many "good" 3d figters since.. Save for Project Justice.

There is a SNK Chaos game coming out by the end of the year (well end of the month in Japan i think) but it's a neo geo MVS and Jamma PCB for the time being...

Nothing beats Street Fighter III (I have the Dreamcast version) that game takes so much more skill to win a fight than anything else. That said the best 3D fighters after that are VF4 then Soul Calibur 2. And i have to give honorable mention to the DOA games. I love that series And a new DOA online is in the works from what I hear

2D!!!! 2d!!!!!!

Guilty Gear X2 is the best game ever created , fighter-wise.

Except maybe, MAYBE, SFA3.
