Invert Mouse?
I've played FPSers for quite a while now... At first I used regular controlls like everyone else. But people starting getting on my computer and playing my games. So I switched to invterted mouse, to keep uninformed computer people off of my computer seeing how they don't know how to change it back.
Now I have my own computer and everything but I still play AVP2, CS, and MOHAA with inverted mouse, it's just something that stuck with me. Now my question toall of you. Do you use inverted mouse? Ever tried it? Play better without it? |
i've never tried it.
since u mention it, i'll give it a try in cs. |
I tried it once for about 5 minutes. No thanks. I just didn't like it.
It takes a little getting use to, but eventually you'll master it. If anyone can pull up an satistics or polls I'd be much abliged!
Tried it before but I'm just too used to the normal way of playing....
Regular.
i tried it after my first post and found it too weird.
I play with regular mouse, I think it'd be difficult inverted
What's an "inverted mouse"?
inverted all the way baby!!! , it just makes sense if you want to look up you tip you head back (pull mouse back) look down - tip head forward etc.......
you gotta live it :) |
Oh, the movements are backwards...I get it...
I gotta go w/ the regular old method of "up = up down = down"
I go regular too, friends use the other though, don't know why some like and some don't. I would bet those that are inverted are normally better (huge assumption).
Always have used inverted mouse. Carryover from flight sims. I cant control a thing with the mouse normal. And some games didnt let you invert in the old days.
I only use them for flight simulators, as I can't currently own a working joystick.
I can make-believe it's a joystick. :) |
i invert every time. its because i played too many flight sims like privateer and wing commander. those style of games ruined me basically i get so confused if i don't invert the mouse.

I started out playing flight sims before I got deep into FPS games - so I've always been an inverted mouse user. Several of my buddies give me a hard time about it, but I can trash all but one of them.
I only use inverted mouse. I guess it comes from all the flight sims I've played -- pull back to go up and that stuck with me and became pull back to look up. I'm at a point now that I can't play unless the mouse is inverted.
I invert the joystick on console games, but use regular mouse when playing on pc.
I used to use inverted mouse, but I kept running across games where inverted wasn't an option (not necessarily FPS). It was too damn confusing to remember when down is up and up is up.So I had to pick one or the other, and since non-inverted is more common, I had to go with it.
Ick, I can see why you might want an inverted mouse for flight simulators, but not FPS games. Just as UnlikedOne said, "up" is up and "down" is down -- zero room for confusion. It's all about using WASD and default mouse settings (maybe with a few modifications, but definitely not inverted). Here's a sample of what I use for CS (you might notice the 1337 walk toggle alias, which you may feel free to borrow):
bind "w" "+forward" bind "a" "+moveleft" bind "s" "+back" bind "d" "+moveright" bind "ALT" "+strafe" bind "CTRL" "+duck" bind "shift" "walk_t" alias walk_t "walk_on" alias walk_on "alias walk_t walk_off; +speed; developer 1; echo Walking enabled; developer 0" alias walk_off "alias walk_t walk_on; -speed; developer 1; echo Running enabled; developer 0" // unified super-l337 walk/crouch toggles // // first we have the initial state set bind "SHIFT" "togglewalk" bind "CTRL" "+duckcontrol" -speed // the walk toggle part thingy alias togglewalk walkslow alias walkslow "+speed; developer 1; echo Walking enabled; developer 0; alias togglewalk walkfast; alias +duckcontrol +leetduck; alias -duckcontrol -leetduck" alias walkfast "-speed; developer 1; echo Running enabled; developer 0; alias togglewalk walkslow; alias +duckcontrol +duck; alias -duckcontrol -duck" // the crouching stuffz0r alias +duckcontrol "+duck" alias -duckcontrol "-duck" alias +leetduck "-speed; developer 1; echo Walking enabled; developer 0; +duck" alias -leetduck "+speed; developer 1; echo Running enabled; developer 0; -duck" bind "MWHEELDOWN" "invnext" bind "MWHEELUP" "invprev" bind "MOUSE1" "+attack" bind "MOUSE2" "+jump" bind "MOUSE3" "+attack2" +mlook |
invert mouse is definitely a carryover from flight sims. WADS keyboard config is pretty common too, but I use ESDF instead, because I started playing before WADS was a config default =)
wolfenstein! sig heil! So basically, you can tell when someone started gaming by their config and the mouse settings they use. Flight Sim buffs will use invert, or people who migrated from console FPS's to pc FPS's, since invert is a default on consoles many times, for whatever reason.. As to invert mousers being better at games... In flight sims, yeah =p In FPS's, that hasn't been my experience. P.S. ESDF has more room on the left for reload, duck keys, etc~ |
i am not an inverted mouse person. i am a WASD person. The new style is to be a ESDF person but my spinal cord now controls my finger placement and I just get killed all the time if I try ESDF.
It's just like playing a game with a mouse and keyboard for the first time.. it takes a while to get used to it, but once you've played a bunch, it's like second nature. I used to play without inverting, but after I tried it and got used to it, i'll never go back. Plus it makes FPS games like Tribes much easier to play. Just MO.
I've never liked inverted mouse much, though it can be good for flightsims.
I invert the mouse and have my own totally goofy keyboard layout using the Number Pad. It is so strange that I go to a buddies house and need to download from my FTP my keyboard config to play counterstrike and stuff...WASD my ass! Number pad lets me *feel* where my action or activate buttons are (plus or enter) or my reload (/ key). I guess it all started when I needed a bunch of readily available and determinable keys for force powers in Jedi Knight.
anyhoo INVERT MOUSE = TEH G00D |
Use it only when flying - can't do it otherwise.
I've always used inverted in every FPS i've played. Can't stand to use it the other way. cant even play the other way
If I'm playing with a joystick, then I usually prefer inverted... but I can't stand inverted mouse on FPS games. When I'm playing FPS games, I basically just point and click like I'm on desktop. With inverted mouse, that messes up the whole point and click process.
I think it may have something to do with the left/right brain hemisphere thing.
Im a lefty and I keep my mouse settings standard. |
Seriously I used inverted from day 1,
Didnt quake 1 only have inverted, well mine did. |
Never liked inverted for PC games...
For console games...I get confused sometimes. Keep forgetting if it was Inverted I liked or not. Cause it's totally different. |
I've always used inverted mouse. Nothing to do with flight sims or anything, but I think it was Jedi Knight that came with Inverted as the default, so I just got used to it. I can't play any other way now.
WSAD and no invert for me, i just cant get used to it, i have tried numerous times.

I started with inverted mouse, I think the reason was from playing decent. Remember that game? All the cool flying around thru the tunnels and stuff. Man that was a cool game. I switch to normal mouse about 2 years ago, and I can play either way now.
Always have an always will use invert mouse. I've used it ever since I first played Goldeneye on my n64. Quake2, Quake3, RTCW, Halo, you name it, I've played it with Invert Mouse. :D
I've never crashed a plane faster......
I can't stand it inverted. |
ive used inverted mouse before didt like it too much
