Blizzard Copy Protection issues

First off, let me say that I do in fact own these games, as in, I went to the store, brought home the box, opened it up, installed it and tried to play it.

My cd-rom has issues with Blizzards copy protection. Namely, it doesn't work. For D2, d2LOD, and WC3 (the only games I've purchased made by blizzard) the game refuses to see the original cd in the drive.

For D2, I was in heavy contact with blizzards cs. Which was a complete and total waste of, no kidding, 2 months. I tried again with WC3, and since they refused to actualy read my emails and send back carbon copy forms, I gave up almost immediately.

Blizzard, for their part, thinks that it has nothing to do with the copy protection, that the problem is in my graphics card (radeon 8500). Installing a no-cd crack and having the game work tells me that they're wrong

So, I can play the games, but there are problems with that. When a patch comes out, gotta go and search (usualy) foriegn websites for hours trying to find an exe that works safely and properly. And it invalidates playing online.

Has anyone else encountered this problem, and found a solution? Besides a new drive, of course (my tower has a molded front, which would make installing one a pain in the ass, to say the least)

they're all great games
I'd say it would be more than worth it to spend 30 bucks on a new cd-rom

I am not sure what u mean. But if you can’t pull it out through the front, you can always pull the CD player out through the inside of the computer. Unless some cards/or the processor is getting in the way. Then yep…it’s a pain in the ass.

yeah, specify the kind of case youve got, they all come apart somehow...

being that the CDROM drive isn't in a laptop, the towers all have 5.25 drives and just need to be unscrewed and slid out.

Just do it and get a new drive.

If a stock one won't fit, you could always get a USB external one, but those are expensive and kinda bulky.

But Blizzard games get patched often enough that needing the disc is fairly necessary for their games, IMHO. I usually don't bother with no-CDs for Blizzard titles.

I believe that some cd-rom drives were having issues with blizzard copy protecting, but I didn't have the problem and thus paid little heed. It sounds like you've really looked at all the options, so I'm not sure what to suggest. You may want to look up the makers of your cd-rom drive to look for assistance.

It is a cdrom driver issue. I bought a refurb dvd drive and have issues with some copy protections when I was running windows 98se . Windows XP appears to have helped my issues some. It is possible that if you can identify your cdrom manufacturer and model number they could have some windows driver updates to fix it.
