Gameboy Advance light??

Hey everyone. The wife got me a GBA for christmas and I was really pumped. Then I came to the harsh realization that I can't see the damn screen. I've saw many different lights out there but I know some are crap (especially the one I bought ). Just wondering if anyone has one they really like, or if this afterburner thing is worth it. Also, I you suggest the afterburner, any info you have on it would be nice. Thanks all!!!

Hey man, I work at Electronics Boutique and I must honestly say that I have yet to see a fully decent light for your GBA's screen. A lot of the ones I see illuminate the edges but leave a slight dark spot at the centre of the screen or are far too bright. There are definately good ones out there but I have yet to come across one.

A few of my friends traded in their GBA's for GBASP's just so they could get a decent backlight, I however would recommend very highly that you do NOT do that, since your GBA was a gift

Hopefully someone else here at the TFP will be able to help, the GBA is an awesome system and feels much better to handle than an SP.

Christmas Gifts are meant to be returned. Get a GBA SP so you can see it I have one of the Magnfier with lights and it sucks because of the glare :/ If you only want a GBA for the games and not the portability there is the Game boy player addon coming out for the gamecube that lets you play the games on the TV

Hey check this out. You can buy a kit to add a light to your GBA. I have heard that this works very well.

I just got the SP... and love the light on it... except at night when one of my dogs freaks out and chases the light coming from the sides all around the room... im tempted to lock her in the bathroom..... anyway.... my sister had a fairly decent light, but it sucked batteries worse then the gamegear or lynx.... I will ask her though..... oh also... why don't you just play it on that cab of yours.... i emulated and finished golden age way before i got the sp

Thanks kgb, I think I will go for the Afterburner. I was thinking it was more like $40, to I was a little timid. I know you can break your GBA, but what the hells the difference if I don't play it now .

I do have it emulated on the cabinet, but I really want to use the wifes present, you know, to be sweet and all .

I was thinking of getting a Gameboy Advanced SP. Is the lighting really as good as they say? What I mean is, is it bright enough to see even in the darkest of rooms, and does it spread the light evenly, so you don't end up with glaring bright spots?

i have the pelican light for the game boy advanced and i like the way it works, it took a little getting used to but it is light sensitive so it comes on when you need it to. i have played it for hours at night and i am happy with it, unfortunately i dont know the price i got it for christmas, sorry!

I paid to have an afterburner installed on my GBA and it made all the difference. Highest recommendations for yourhappyplace.com.

Screw the new one, I have a first generation dot matrix one that still is in perfect working order. The only game I still have for it is Tetris though... and I only play it while dropping a deuce.

I also have an afterburner and it is nice but I think the new gameboy is better. The light looks more evenly distributed. Also, installing the afterburner is not for the faint of heart. Doing it without getting dust in the setup is incredibly hard.

So I've seen a halo light at Electronics Boutique and I'm wondering if anyone here has used or seen one in use before?

It says it replaces the lens, but it looked a lot less intrusive than the Afterburner. I haven't had a lot of problems using my GBA, I always end up with a good light source nearby. But I'd like to be able to use it anywhere.

I think EB will give you $40 if you trade in your GBA for the GBA SP!

Yes it is. You can see it pure darkness. The SP has four lights on each side of the screen. No glare at all. It's great. I highly recommend it.

I would definitely recommend getting an SP. I've got one and it's awesome.
The fact that the GBA was a gift makes it a bit tricky... oh well.
Get 'Golden Sun' at any rate.

I have a GBA and I installed the afterburner kit and I don't have any problems at all. The light is evenly distributed, the hard part was putting the non-glare thing on.
