Battlefield 1942 Demo

Quick question. I found myself playing this demo lately for hours on end. Only thing i dont like is that sometimes lag is a big factor in my death. My system is middle of the road and i have a DSL line so basically I was just wondering if just the demo is laggy or if the retail version also laggy? I think I read somewhere that this game did have some stability issues but that recent patches have made it more playable, i.e., less lag.

If you lag in the demo you'll probably lag in the full game also. I have a decent system and it runs pretty good for me but it just takes a long time to load. It's a awesome game though.

Are you talking multiplayer or the single player combat missions? If it's the MP you're talking about, be sure to sort your servers by ping. I never touch anything higher that 90ms. I've played with 64 players before on a good server and nothing rocks more than seeing ten bodies flying in the air after you hit them with a M203. I'm speaking gaming of course

With the 1.4v patch and Desert Combat .38d and theh No_CD patch, I'm in the game in a matter of seconds. Though I will say it's a very taxing game - course I have everything maxed out.

Okay I asked this question in a BF 1942 forum and was heckled for not owning the full game.

I play the demo MP version and I have it patched. Like R_one, I never go above 100 ping for server selection. I constantly get an unable to connect warning on a lot of servers. I'm on ADSL and the servers are patched, pings are low,and they are only running the demo, so whats going on?

kirk44 I have the demo patched, have a DSL connection and I get that same unable to connect warning. No idea why, but usually after a couple of attempts I can get on and play.

Remember reading a discussion somewhere on this topic and someone suggested lowering the quality of the sounds. Apparently this game spends a lot of processor time on the sound fx. Worth a try.

The demo was a LOT laggier than the retail version. I've been playing it since the first day the MP demo was released. There are definite improvements and it will not be as laggy as it was. One bug in the demo (which may or may not relate to what you are experiencing) was the game would lag completely out for a bit, and your ping would report as 1023. It was a software bug that they fixed. I know people who play on 56k connections with little to no problems so you should be fine.
