X-Box Vs PS2???
Which console do you guys think is better, X-Box or Playstation 2?
I studied both before deciding on an X-Box, simply because it is a better machine in terms of spec it had more hard drive space and u can plug 4 controllers straight into the machine rather than getting ripped off and having to buy a multi-tap! The graphics are also slighly better. I think alot of people just jumped on the PS2 Bandwagon simply because of its reputation from the first console. Just my opinion but let me know what u guys think Fascs

Plenty!!!
Well actually i have plenty of fun games, what makes you think that living in the uk means i wouldn't have any fun games?, if your going to make a point at least get it across!
At the moment i'm playing: Splinter Cell Sega GT 2002 Fusion Frenzy(Great 4 player game) Soul Caliber 2 Hitman 2 Internation Super Star Soccer 2 Winning Eleven In England you know we do have the cabability to have our X-boxes modified and we do have the internet so we can download games to play! Jesus Christ, simply saying u chose the wrong console hehe - yeah good point?

Splinter Cell came out on all of the next gen consoles, including the PS2.
Gran Turismo > Sega GT. Soul Calibur 2 = out on PS2 and Gamecube also. Hitman 2 = on PS2 also. And those soccer games... I don't really care about them. Soccer's dumb anyway. Anyway, the Xbox's specs and hard drive space do not change the actual quality of the game at all. The PS2 has much better games than the Xbox, which is the reason why it's outselling Xbox significantly. And also, why did you ask what the better console was when you were already convinced that the Xbox was better? Looks like somebody was looking for an argument. |

ps2 does have a lot of good games but the graphics are starting
to look outdated... built in 4 player for x box is nice but there aren't that many good 4 player games for the xbox which is why i only have 2 controllers so far... (for coop halo, still the most fun that can be had shootin stuff... with castle wolfenstein coming in at a close 2nd..) so far the most fun 4 player games have been on the gamecube so far... but apparently you don't consider the gamecube... on the other hand xbox online stuff so far has been much better than playstations online stuff already there has been 2 new maps for wolfenstein... can't help you as far as sports games go... really, you can't go wrong picking a console these days, everythin has its advantages and disadvantages... the best thing to do is pick one based on the games they've got out right now... definitely pick up halo if you have at least one friend to play it co-operative with and you like first person shooters even a tiny bit... also knights of the old republic is supposed to be good.. alright enough from me...

Right now XBox has two good games, Dead or Alive 3 and DOA Extreme Beach Volleyball. PS2 has so many awesome games that the XBox cant compete in my opinion. Though the XBox does have superb graphics. If they could get more companies(Square/Enix along with a lot of others) to make games for them, XBox would be great. And i do like XBox Live a lot but i will just have to wait just incase Microsoft buys out a lot more companies or they just give up on this system since it isnt doing as well as they had hoped. As of now the XBox is subpar and the Gamecube's graphics look just as good as the XBox's. Also the PS2 has so many more fun games than the XBox.

I chose the Xbox because I hate memory cards, I like playing multiplayer, I really enjoy Halo, and I have never liked the PS controls. Despite all the PS fans' cries of exclusive games, I haven't seen any that would convince me to buy a PS2. If I was going to buy a system just for the exclusive games, it would be the GC.

I have both. and yes the PS2 may sell more and have a bigger selection of games.... BLAH BLAH BLAH but the thing that puts XBOX over the top for me is XBOX LIVE. and looking at my collection of games, i have 4 ps2 games, SOCOM, Vice city, grand Turismo, and Ace combat 4. all of those games are ok and i enjoy playing them however I have 22 Xbox games and out of those 8 are Live enabled and those 8 games are what i play most. I also like the fact that a friend may be playing a diferent game and can send me an invite then all i have to do is accept, change the disk and presto i am connected to my friends game. maybe i have not picked up the best PS2 games to compare with my XBOX games but I still prefer my XBOX. I also like the XBOX controller better than the PS2 controller however i know that is a personal prefrence. anyway this has been my 2 cents worth on the issue.

ps2 all the way
I'm thinking ps2. xbox has like 4 games i wouldn't mind playing. and all of those are slated for PC or ps2 anyway so i guess its kind of a moot point to buy an xbox. they have some hardware issues too. anyone who bought the first ones off the line definitly don't have working ones anymore and M$ isn't replacing the defective hardware. that i've heard of anyway.

Games, games, games.
It's all about the games. Don't buy a system because of what the system can do. Buy a system because of what the system can play! Remember, all those specs are just potential until someone comes along and actually uses them. And usually by the time that happens, a next generation system comes along anyway. For me, it was a simple choice of picking the Nintendo GameCube over all others. Not because it had any superior hardware (which it doesn't), but because it had many games that I could only find on the GC. Metroid Prime, Zelda:WW, Star Fox, a host of original RE games, plus you could still play all the games that are out for all systems. As a bonus, I later found out that it could connect with my GBASP to unlock special features in certain games, making games even more fun. This is exactly what I was looking for in a system, and Nintendo provided for my needs. Whether you're of the same opinion, only you can answer, but just don't look at a system and think "Well, system A can run 433 MHz faster than system B can, therefore system A will obviously be a far better choice". You could end up being sorely disappointed later on when you end buying a $300+ paperweight, and nothing to play on it. If you have any doubts, just go to the local video rental, or video game store, and look over the titles that are available for all the systems. It'll help you make a better informed decision, and who knows, you might be surprised at what you find out. Edit: Incidentally, that "System A vs System B" example was real. The XBox was System A, and PSX2 was System B, and we all know who's outselling who. ![]()

I like my PS2, its held up through a lot of abuse by siblings and technologically challenged parents. The controller is a HELL of a lot better for sports games, and most games in general. The analog sticks are durable too. The graphics on the XBox are superior, but the PS2 looks almost as good if you have an S-Cable and the same if you have composite video cables. Talking about getting ripped off with the Multitap, you HAVE to buy the DVD remote to be able to play DVDs. Because of its durability, large library of quality games, and better gameplay, I have to go with the PS2 on this one.

i get this question all day...i work in a videogame store...xbox and ps2 are both around the same levels...if any id rate the ngc the lowest due to the lack of games and shitty controller design...
pros for the xbox are: the hardware itself, 8gig hd, online play, 4 controller slots, good system link...cons: bulk, no out of box dvd playback, first gen controller, xbox live, advanced av pack...heres for ps2...pros: out of box dvd playback, optical outlet, selection of games, great controller...cons: no harddrive, no modem, even shittier online than xbox, 2 controller ports, who uses the firewire anyways?, hardware is a little lacking now...gc pros: hardware, 4 controller ports, ergonomic controller and wavebird, nintendo, gba linkup, good games are GOOD, cheapest...cons: lack of games, controller sucks balls for fighting games,no modem (only like 1 online game anyways),no dvd playback, did i mention lack of software?... first gen xbox's did have problems...but so did ps2...so who cares? if a game comes out for every system...i buy it for xbox just because the hardware is just simply better...so it performs better...every system also has their own games that arent coming out for any other system...fuck it...just get all the systems...you wont have to deal with this question. p.s. pirating video games sucks you cheap bastards |

GTA VC is still the best console game out there and also love the Tony Hawk series. Furthermore I've yet to see a convincing racing game on the Xbox.
yes PS2 has got 20x the amount of good games but try this simple test. Get hold of a PS2 and an Xbox run Tiger Woods 2003 on both and observe - its not the PS2 version you'll still be playing in 10 hours time!!!

awww.. you gamecube fans make me proud. I love my cube, but the lack of great new gtames is starting to annoy me. New games that are "must buy" games come out for it about once every 6 months.. that's waay too long of a wait compaired to the competiton. If i ever got an exbox, I would mod that sucker real quick because there arent many games out for it that i am interested in. Xbox live is a great idea, but personally I am not interested to pay for games i've already paid for once.. just to play them online with people. The only exception I would make would be for PSO, but i can play that online on my gamecube. Perhaps i was hard on the Xbox, but it appears to me that MS was sorta interested into getting into the videgame business.. but arent 100 percent commited to it yet. It seems really clear that it's all about putting out half rushed games and getting your money upfont, then fixing "bugs" via Xbox live later on. Dont even get me started on EA games' business model.
Despite my personal feelings for the Xbox, if it has the games you like..then go ahead and enjoy your purchase. It's just not for me. p.s. The problems with the gamecube could fill 2 pages.. so i'm not just bagging the box. they ALL have their pros and cons. |

It's all what someone before. It's all in what suits your wants and needs. Me, I love the graphics on my X-Box, I wasn't entirely impressed by the graphics on my friends PS2. I haven't seen a Game Cube yet, so I won't comment on it other then there are a few games on it that I'd like to play ie: Metroid Prime.
Being forced to buy the DVD remote kind of sucked, but so what? I could say in response to that I have a built-in high speed modem with my X-Box, but that wouldn't really matter. My X-Box suits my needs and has games I'll play and that's all that matters. |

The only reasons to get Xbox in my opinion are KOTOR and Halo. Both of which will be coming to PC before the end of the year. I have a lot PS2 games and many of them are great.
SOCOM is the best online console game for any system in my opinion. GTA games, MGS2, FFX, R&C, GT3, ICO, Xenosaga, Dark Cloud 2, Kingdom Hearts, and Suikoden 3 are all really good games in my ipinions and are only available on PS2. Well except for GTA games on PC and MGS2 Substance on Xbox. |

I think xbox might have the better hardware...that's a big might, but I think the Playstation 2 has much better games, so far at least.
If I was given a choice of which to but I would probably go with the ps2. But for now it's just the pc for me! |

I bought the xbox because I wanted a console that will last, when my xbox becomes obsolete to the point there are no games I would play for it. It will sit in my car serving up 40gigs or mp3s and divX movies along with playing a wide range of emulators. The xbox is the better choice because of the community.

All I can say is the we have an XBox and a Playstation2. My son begged to get a PS2 since none of his friends have an XBox. So he got his PS2 for Christmas.
I got my XBox connected to XBox Live and he was so impressed with it that he went out and bought an XBox and a Live connection with his own money. The PS2 hasn't been used since that day. (Ok, ok, I start it up and play Vice City once in a while.) If you like playing games online then XBox is the only way to go. We play against each other all the time. Great online games: Ghost Recon Mech Assault Midtown Madness 3 Unreal Championship Moto GP2 You can also get a lot of new stuff and bug fixes online with a lot of the games. In my opinion, Xbox blows away PS2 for online stuff and graphics. Sure PS2 has a LOT of games out but I can't think of any that would make me buy the thing for myself. I'm not a big fan of Jap RPG's and that's the only thing it really is good for. The PS2 fanboys can flame me all they want but I can bet they don't have an Xbox at home to compare the two like I do. |

A couple more opinions to add since reading through all the posts:
PS2's SOCAL sounds interesting but a friend I play Ghost Recon online with said that it sucked. He said it had too much of an arcade feel to it. That lost my interest... I hear a lot of complaints about the Xbox controller... I love the thing. I think it fits in my hands just fine. When I switch over to the PS2 my hands start to hurt trying to squeeze them together to reach the buttons. I think they made it too small. The first analog version released for the PSOne was slightly bigger and that one worked great but was redesigned later because people were complaining. Maybe I just have big hands? Lastly, Vice City is an OK game. I think it would look great on the Xbox. The PS2 has too little internal RAM and the load times really ruin it for me. I hate when I'm racing over a bridge with cops on my butt and *POP* (loading...loading...loading...). When the game kicks back in I usually crash into something trying to get conrol back. Really irritating! |

I got my X-Box this last christmas. It just crapped out completely today after maybe forty hours of real use. I called tech support and they said that my warranty had expired and that they were going to charge one hundred dollars to fix my machine regardless of the problem.
Fuck microsoft.

Lemme fan the flames of the fanboy holy war.
Get a Gamecube pros 1) cheaper 2) better graphics than the PS2 3) better good game/bad game ratio 4) lots of fun games 5) now bundled with the Gameboy Advance player = lots MORE fun games to play (if you can handle the graphics downgrade) cons 1) smaller library than either the Xbox and the PS2 I got a GC and I've enjoyed it. The only reason I might buy an XBox revolve around the games either coming out for it or already out for it. Doom 3 Half-Life 2 SW:Knights of the Old Republic Those are the 3 big ones. I'm tired of the constant upgrades to my PC. I figure it's cheaper to buy an XBox if I want to play Doom3 and HL2 when they come out than it is to upgrade my Duron-850/GeForce400MX so it can run those games. Do they still rent consoles at Blockbuster or Hollywood video? If they do, rent each one and see which one you like best. |

PS2 is the way to go. Ive played both and the xbox doesnt give me the fever to sell my PS2 and go out buy a new xbox. The graphics on the xbox are good but who cares. I cant tell a overwhelming difference between xbox graphics and PS2 graphics. I also like being able to play a dvd without having to buy a stupid remote. Some people bring up the multitap on PS2, I havent seen a whole lot of good games (on either console) that are 4 players. I will give the xbox credit for the hard drive instead of memory cards. But if its a kickass game like GTA Vice City i dont care to buy a memory card. The PS2 game selection is awsome thats all you can say.
ps: does anybody know anything about Driver 3. |

Gamecube may have a better good:bad game ratio, but that means theres like, what, 6 good games, 2 bad ones? Such a small library. It's a real shame, considering it's potential. I got mine for RE, and that was so worth it.
PS2 doesn't just have alot of games. Thats not the point. PS2 has alot of GOOD games. And most people here have named 2 good XBox games. KOTOR and Halo. Both coming out for PC. XBox doesn't have an interesting library. I'm ashamed to say I almost bought one earlier this summer. I just wanted Buffy and Halo. But when I looked at the games I saw at the store, I just thought "I don't want to play any of these titles." I'd have gotten sucked into KOTOR too, for sure, but I decided against it, and spent my money buying shiny pretty things for a special lady. And a question to you XBox owners, how many of you play Halo thru Gamespy?

Do you know that despite the PS2 outnumbering the XBox, 4:1 the number 1 game on PS2 sold only twice as many copies as the number 1 game on XBox (Enter the Matrix)? The number 2 game for both PS2 and XBox sold the same number of copies on each console, and the #3 XBox game sold more than the #3 PS2 game!
What does this mean? The PS2 is getting old and the XBox is catching up. Developers prefer to work on the XBox. Nobody wants to use the horrible command line tools associated with the PS2, nor does any programmer want to write VU1 microcode to eek out the last bit of rendering performance from that machine. If you really want to get your game moving, you have to divide your code up and compile for different CPUs so you can use the VU0, VU1, EE and IOP all at the same time! It's a major pain in the ass. With XBox you get a nice debugger (even if the compiler is crap) and nice managment tools. Productivity for a development house targeting XBox triples over a place going for the PS2. </rant> Xbox is a good choice, and it will be a better choice when Crimson Skies comes out. |
