castlevania.... sigh
is anyone else saddened by the fact that konami is making the new castlevania in 3D. Its like a cool underground band selling out and going mainstream... sort of. Symphony of the Night was the best thing ever. But no, konami is going for the mainstream audience. Just because sotn was side scrolling they think it doesnt have mass market appeal or something... well, it doesnt. But that doesnt mean it couldnt be an awesome game. the gameplay in sotn was so unique. am i wrong here? am i the only one who thinks this way?
oh well... sigh and lets not forget about castlevania 64 and how bad that sucked... :\ |

Unfortunatley 2D going 3D is just about as guaranteed as you get with the current video games. Just about every franchise eventually takes their old 2d games and goes 3D. However luckily for us, Konami will continue to make 2D castlevania games on the gameboy and also there have been rumors of another 2D coming to a major home console. The creator of this particular new 3D game seems to have the fact that the last 3D venture went horribly wrong firmly stuck in the forefront of his mind. My prediction, based on what I've read, will be a very "Devil may Cry"-ish game style. Will probably be fun at least I HOPE

Castlevania 64 was made by a totally different team. I had a chance to play the new 3D title at E3 this spring, and it's shaping up to be something fantastic. Remember, Metroid went into the 3rd dimension with Metroid Prime and it turned out to be amazing. The reason I'm not too worried about this title is because it's being made by the same guys that made SotN. As much as you love the game, they love it more. I'm confident they can translate the feeling of nonlinearity and exploration over to the 3rd dimension.

Lets just cross our fingers. I actually like Castlevania 64... for a week after I bought it. Oh well, we all make mistakes, even Konami. I wouldnt mind a Devil May Cry style Castlevania, just so long as it's not a total ripoff. And I'm really eager to see what this 2D CV will be like. Anyone have screenshots, or links to?

Castlevania is coming out for PS2, and it's made by every single person that made Symphony of the Night, down to the character artists and composer of music. The head developer said that he was NOT going to let Konami release this game until it was PERFECT. Electronic Gaming Monthly had a MASSIVE blow-out on it the issue before last. I'm not a big Castlevania fan, but this game looks incredible.

I'm pretty optimistic about the transformation to 3D.
Symphony of the Night was a lot (ALOT) like Super Metroid on the SNES... Both excellent games, but both very similar. Metroid Prime is basically a 3D version of Super Metroid, and I think it's excellent... So I think that a new 3D castlevania could be really cool. |

As much as I would like to see a new 2D Castlevania, this doesn't look too bad. I really looking foward to it.

all due respect quit whining until you play the fucking game.
i really, really, really perfer 2d over 3d, but sometimes they make it work and it looks excellent so far. Like Devil May Cry; remember hot it was 3d, yet..... 2dish? and look and Metroid Prime: it turned out flawlessly. yes i want one super duper buffed up castlevania on a ps2 or xbox, however this is like the fifteenth billion castlevania made..... a little difference is needed! |

i would not want Castlevania on the XBox, ewwwww. But i have faith that the team that made SotN(one of the best games ever!) really will make an awesome game. I still would kill for another 2D castelvania for the PS2 or even the GC, oh how sweet it would be.
Oh and Metroid Prime was pretty much a flawless game. I truly hope Castlevania turns out to be awesome like Metroid Prime was.

Personally, I can't wait to see Lament of Innocence. From what I've read, it's going to be spectacular. I have always been a Castlevania fan, so hopefully it will be worth the wait.

Yawhateva = Fanboy.
I don't know if Castlevania is suited for a 3-d world. But hey the franchise has a good and solid history behind it. Besides its not all about the graphics, if the story holds out and proves to be interesting you'll play a damn game with stickfigures just to see what happens next. NeverBorn = uninformed jackass.
I have owned every damn system that came out except the XBox, dont talk to me about being a fanboy. And my roommate has an XBox. So dont talk shit. And i mean the systems that arent totally lame. I even owned a fanicom and a super fanicom and a jaguar along with loads of others. And where anywhere in my last post did i say anything fanboyish? If you call hating the XBox fanboyish then fine, i am a fanboy for every system out there besides the XBox.

I was disappointed when I found out that the new Castlevania was going to be 3D... but I suppose if it's made by the same team that did SotN, it might still be worth a look.
SotN is one of my top 5 Playstation games (PS1 & PS2). Maybe even top 3. And If I wasn't such a Final Fantasy Fanboy, It'd be number 1 |

You know it's fun to be skeptical and pessimistic on every new game/movie/music release, because it's never as good as their old one/ their last one/ their first one.
You know just play the game if you enjoy good if not oh well play another one
