Dance Dance Revolution

A few years ago, a friend showed me DDR on his PC. He kept telling me how great it was. I didn't see what the big deal was. Then, I saw it in action. I got pretty hooked. Eventually, I bought some pads for Dreamcast, played in the arcades whenever possible, and got decent. At some point, I downloaded DWI and about 1200 songs for my PC. I recently invested in some Cobalt Flux pads. Oh, and my brother owns a DDR machine. =)

Okay, so who here beats me as an addict?

Watching fat kids play it at the mall is the best piece of entertainment ever. Jiggling back fat is hypnotic, like a lava lamp.

Phaenx, that's got to the be the grossest thing I've heard today.

t3m3st, why's DDR the devil? It's good, clean fun. Well, aside from the really raunchy songs and the fact that it makes you sweat and smell.

DDR rocks.. I started at the beginning of this year and so far I'm capable of most heavy songs.. working on getting an A on rhythm and police though.

A friend of mine started playing it Christmas of 2002 and I played it a few times and had a lot of fun with it. Before actually playing it I always been aware of DDR but had no real interest in it.

Where can you find DDR for the Dreamcast? I've been wanting to get it, but I've only found it for the PS and PS2 at the game shops. Did they release DDR for the Dreamcast in the US?

i havent lost any weight but i have increased my stamina something feirce. At the heigh of my playing i could play DDR nonstop for 3 hours before collapsing in a sweaty heap. A buddy of mine went on a low carb diet, and started playing 3 hours of DDR a day and lost 50lbs in 3 months to get in shape for his wedding. It takes mopre than just DDR, but it could work..very aerobic game.

DDR 2nd mix DID come out for the Dreamcast. It's very difficult to purchase a copy, but not too hard to find one using emule. There is also a DDR-esque game for the dreamcast that is free and supposrts song swapping called "Feet of Fury". Search Google for it; it's very well done.

Christmas of 2003 isn't for another five months.

I tried once, but got discouraged by my white boy sense of "rhythm". I eventually decided it'd be better to lay off the fried foods.

I've been addicted since last year. Im pretty decent, I can do most 8-9 footers unless they are above 160BPMish( = bad ). I've only spent about $70 on DDR, bought Konamix, 2 BNSUSA mats, and PSXchange(boot disk) for more ddr....

Been playing on and off for the past year. When you first started did you "bunny hop"? I dont really know what to call it, but I found myself doing that a lot. After each step, I would hop back with the foot i just used to the center, and use my free foot on the next arrow. Man that habit was hard to kick.....

I have been playing for a few years. I can AA most of the songs, and nearly combo MAX 300. I originally founded the IRC channel #DDRManiaX for the website www.ddrmaniax.net in January 2002, even though they are both full of newbies now. I am not too much of a DDR addict, but more of a Bemani addict, as I have many of the soundtracks and games and such. Bemani led me to the dance music genre in general, and that's what I listen to all the time now. If you want some Stepmania/DWI songs, you are always free to join #DDRManiaX as long as you're not a retarded newbie [/cheap plug].

Pyroman has the right idea with the irc channel. That's usually your best bet on official stuff. DDRmaniax's forums are pretty good for original songs/step files. DDRei.com recently started their 4th TournaMix (a bunch of people submit originals).

DDR for Dreamcast...there were actually two different discs. The first was 2nd Mix (which included a few 3rd Mix songs) and the second was the more rare Club Mix. Personally, I wouldn't really suggest that route. There's just not enough DDR-related stuff for the DC to justify that sort of investment.

Ganguro, by eurotrashy...do you mean house?

And, DDR is probably at least partially responsible for my lack of gaining any weight the past few years.

I love DDR, I play with my friends like every weekend and whenever we get the chance. We all love it, I'm not the best but I'm sufficient enough.

My favorite Mix is Max Import, or 6th Japan if you perfer. In any case I really love DDR. My friend built his own steel pads and hooked a computer with like every song on stepmainia onto them and that onto a huge TV. Playing DDR there really rules!

Konami made an official version of DDR for PC, but it has a limited number of songs (and costs money). Dance With Intensity (DWI) and Stepmania are the two most popular emulators, though there are a few others. Not sure if any are open source. Check out DDRManiaX.net for more info.

No problem. Feel free to ask if you need anything else.

Just out of curiosity, what are y'all's favorite songs from DDR? Personally, I like the happy Japanese techno pop. =)

Anything by Miss Papaya, Bambee, or smile.dk is great in my book.

DDR is a great way to get over stage fright when playing in public (i.e. at the arcade). It makes for a great workout, and you learn new tricks watching others play. My favorite version is still DDR USA.

USA is a great intro into DDR if you cant find a second or 3rd mix around. More experienced players hate it though. The song selection is "bleh" and the difficulties are pretty sissified too. It's a ok alternative for people who arent so sure they want to play such an embarassing game in public. you can play Paranoia on what 4..5 feet?

stomp to my beat is pretty cool. You can usually find Konamix or whatever it's called for the ps2 at best buy around here for 20 bucks. DDR is really big out here in Vegas.. I think it's because we are so close to Cali.

There's a really good community at

and they have all sorts of information. I'm in the middle of building a platform out of sheet metal, plywood, and acrylic - trying to make it look arcadey and give good feedback in shoes.

I hate playing on a soft pad at home.

yeah we play stepmania with a whole lot of downloaded songs and max and max2 for ps2
only song we haven't beat yet is max 300 heavy, but it should hopefully be done in the next week
and yeah, if anyone has some other good links for downloading sm or dwi files, hook up please
favorite song - any of the AM-3P's (but expecially the 303 bassmix)
and I can't wait for extreme for ps2 to come out!
