Age of mythology?
I bought this game a while ago, about a week after it came out because it was the only thing that looked good and the game I wanted wasn't in stock. I don't play RTSs that much, but I really like this one.
I've never play it online though, I was going to a few times but then didn't (mostly cause I suck at RTSs, and also I'd probably lag with my 56K). I liked the campaign though, and love playing even just against the AI. None of my friends like it though, most wont even give it a try. Wondering how many here play AOM? |
I have it, havent played in awhile. I really liked it. I also loved Age of Empires II, it is pretty similar in gameplay, just different units and such, you may like that one as well.
|
I play it. I like the campaign senarios the best.
|
I have it as well. I could never get an online game going though, something to do with my firewall I think. I never play anymore because RoN is taking up most of my time.
|
i was soooooooooooooooo hyped about it then waited for christmas.
i finally got it. quickly got bored it's got a good system and an exellent take but all in all it bored me shitless |
I bought it for my dad ( rts games are all he plays) and he loved it. I think he could beat it on the highest difficulty, something I would never try. The God powers are cool. Funniest part is when a myth unit would start knocking human units around.
|
Me. Don't play online - I'm not good enough, and getting my arse kicked again and again and again has pretty limited appeal.

I have it, it was good. There are two thing I don't like, Youcan only use your god power once. I think it should be rechargeable. And Zeus lightenin bolt only kills one person. Zeus is the king of Greek Gods, he should be able to kill a group of people not just one. I've played AOE online, once with my brother beat his ass bad. And then I had my ass beat bad by people I didn't know. I hates the rushing they did. I think that is what is was called. Where they bulit army building near your town.

There is something lacklustre about AoM, but I can't put my finger on it. I was very excited for this game's release, but for one reason or another I just haven't put too much time into it. My wife and I used to play AoE II: TC at least once a day (that is, until my daughter was born) but neither of us have played AoM much.
It looks and plays great, perhaps I'm just getting tired of RTS games. |
I am a master of this game. 1 vrs 4 online play, I win. 1 vrs 5 hard mode, I win. 1 vrs 7 titan, resources run out for all...
|
I like the Age of Empire games. Haven't tried mythology yet.
|
That game has one flaw IMO, every level (where you have a base) can be won with the unbeatable strategy of buidling upto the unit limit and marching your army on the opponent's base.
Norse are cool though :D with their ox-carts and whathaveyou. |
I'm actually replaying the AoM campaign right now. After having just finished Warcraft 3, I actually like the big horde armies and the relative lack of micromanagement compared to Warcraft 3. The levels in AoM are not that bad --- I last played it around the end of last year, and after a long break away it's pretty refreshing. I don't know if I would play it online though. Sometimes the slowness of AoM and its ages can make a game seem a little sluggish compared to a very hectic game of Warcraft 3.

I only play with my friends, but I don't especially like to. RTS's were never really my thing, and my friends know this, so they gang rape me as soon as they can pump out soldiers.

Sorry to bump this thread!
I just got this game and love it. I don't have the expansion pack but am looking for someone to play online with... Anyone up for a few games? :) |

AOE ripoff (sorta seuqal) with superpowers. Fun for the first 5 minutes when I used cheats to cast all of the super powers. But after that, the game gets boring.
|
AOM was a good idea with the god powers. However it failed horribly. They should have made them rechargable and more powerful and made the Egyptians and Greeks better. The only decent side was the nords.
|
I've been playing it with The Titans expansion since that came out, but wouldn't mind switching to the original to play some games.
I still enjoy the game quite a bit, never liked any of the AOE games much, but AOM has kept me wanting to play since I got it (the first day it came out here). |

LaughingCow, maybe you'd like to play too? |
I used to play AoM quite a bit right when it came out. But since Rise of Nations was released, it's the only RTS title that's made it into the LAN bag.
Would be fun to give it a go with one of you guys, I'll have to brush up again. |
Aye, sure thing. Just let me know a day/time or whatever, chances are it's fine for me.
If you have MSN and want to contact me I use pakaraatzi@hotmail.com and I usually go off and on throughout the day. |
It's a good game, except I find it to be a little unbalanced. The Greeks, and to a lesser extent the Norse armies are just too powerful, leaving the Egyptians in the dust.
True, the Egyptians are cheaper and can be built faster, but once economies start rolling, that advantage quickly fades. I once marched a full Egyptian army into a half-assed built Greek army, three times over, and each time the Greeks blew me away. So, I switched, and marched a half-assed Greek army into a full Egyptian army, and blew them away. And it didn't even feel like I was trying to destroy the Egyptians. |

Without the expansion most people (including myself) would say that it's pretty much balanced now with the last couple of patches. With the Titans expansion though there's a lot of arguing over whether it's balanced now or not, but they still seem to be working on patches for it. Either way I still find it fun. |
