DoD is a mod for Half-life and is a lot of fun, I think. Team killers aren't that much of a problem usually, just find a good server to play on. Servers that are completely uncontrolled tend to attract them, but many servers have options for votekicking and banning players that cause trouble. So you don't have to buy it... last time I checked.

If you have HalfLife and a fast connection just d/l it and save yourself $30 bucks.
I personally haven't played the since 1.4 beta but it was a fun game overall and from everything I've seen it has gotten much better since back then. Have to check it out again for myself one of these days. |

I recommend it if you want a good online shooter...its well paced and a ton of fun to play...team killing isnt a problem as most servers kick them really fast and I rarely run into cheaters on DOD...i play it all the time

BF1942 looks nicer than DoD but please don't call it realistic. |

BF1942 is such a lame arse game.
Its so random. And it makes me sick to think so many fools out there then go buy all the sequals which are essentially just mods for the game. Any one who knows anything about modding could make them. And then ppl say that gaming companies arent making enuff quality titles etc. Even tho it has a massive following bf1942 is a very inferior game in ways of its relative realism ( I said relative, dont say "go play raven shield" or something) its single player component, its gameplay and over all coding. Dod on the other hand is FREE if u own the original half life but if you don't you can buy it seperately now as a retail product just like CS. Its a lot of fun. |

Its the greatest teamplay computer game ever made. Great for clans. TKs aren't a problem if you find a server with an anti TK script or a non-friendly fire server. The maps aren't that great in 1.0 though and still many issues I'm hoping 1.1 will fix. I've never tired of DoD. Huge custom maps community keeps it interesting. I like it a lot, but it's way too easy for me to kick ass. Usually I get bored midgame (especially on avalanche). On avalanche, as an Axis soldier, I find it high comedy to wait patiently with my shovel next to the entrance of the first building by the allies (the one that leads to the window that oversees their first flag and the middle), then cracking some skulls. It's so funny when they're clueless. I've taken out entire rows using just my sprint key and my shovel with that method.

I actually play both DoD and BF1942. In BF1942, there is more variety in vehicles and you can fly in the air. That really adds another dimension. However, the community in BF1942 is not the greatest. It will take you some time to find a nice mature server. DoD is a great game. That was my dose of WW2 before BF1942, although Medal of Honor was also a great game. Play both DoD and BF1942 for multiplayer fun

I also would like to recommend you playing Day of Defeat. Me and a couple of friends play it almost every night. Although there are a couple of annoyances with the Half Life engine, we generally have a blast playing it.
Also, Battlefield 1942 was never meant to be a realistic game. They may market it like that, but I didn't pay attention to the box that came with the game. BF1942 is a game for silliness and/or intense vehicular action. <- Don't quote me on that. Tank, meet Mr. Jeep. Kablooie! |

Yes as most said if you already have half life just download the mod....same game.....just cheaper....the retail version is just dod on top of hl. It's a nice game....it does have some flaws but it way way way better than counterstrike by far. Like having gun sway and realistic hit boxes. We should start a tfp clan

I've been playing DOD since it's conception. It's a solid infantry combat action game. To me though, it's far from realistic. It feels more like Counter-Strike than anything else. I'm a big fan, but I'd like to see a more realistic approach to infantry combat. One game in particular that I'm watching is Resistance and Liberation for Half-Life 2. They have some great material up on their website, and their ideas sound solid. I think the url is www.resistanceandliberation.com.
I wouldn't buy DOD retail, not worth the $30 if you ask me. You're not getting much for that price, especially when you can download it for free. You're not losing anything either. If you don't have half-life, you can buy it for about $10 and download DOD. That would be a great value. |

When it comes wether you should play BF1942 or DoD, It just depends on what you feel like doing during WWII. DoD is great for the gamer that wants to get his hands on a ton of WWII infantry weapons. The selection of infantry weapons is what i love about that game. Plus it has my favorite: the scoped FG42 paratrooper rifle. I don't care about what they say about that weapon, I still kick ass with it in glider.
BF1942 only has 3 weapons for each team, all similar or the same in some way. But the vehicles and huge landscapes makes up for more than that. I love the strategy aspect of attacking and defending bases. I prefer holding bases.

1.3 was when dod truly ruled. Lots of nice effects in the latest game but 1.3 had the play right (aside from the overpowered garand). |

I happened to have just played DoD today. It is a very good game. It came with my Half-Life Platinum Pack thing. I play it occassionally but I usually play CS.
Btw, does anyone know how to make the user text bigger in game? Mine is too small to read. |

Never liked Day of Defeat, I'm more of a Forgotten Hope (BF1942 Mod) type of guy.
