So a friend and have decided to at least TRY to do a game mod using the UT2003 engine. We're still in the brainstorming phase, as a good idea is the most important ingredient to a good mod.

A few guidelines for when you make suggestions:

1.) Cannot be FPS. Needs to be 3rd person, or anything thing else that isn't first person.

2.) Simple. Remember that this is a mod team of exactly TWO persons.

3.) Quick. It can't be too difficult to implement in code because we don't want to be working on it for the rest of our lives.

what kind of ut3k areana you looking for.. flat lvl or multi.. small maps or big.. you wanting to remake the weapons or keep what exists..

after that i could give a few ideas..

start small by using already made weapons, arenas, sounds, textures, etc.. and start modding the weapon effects.. like making clustergrenades, and such..then work your way into modding soundpacks.. then start with texture replacing, and then player models, and maps..
this take a really long time, but since there are 2 of you, if you start small and do little projects here and there, it diversifies your teams experience.. instead of busting your hump making a new "game" learn how to work with the old one first. The groundwork has already been done for you..

what i think would be cool would be a ut mod with bionic commando.. have a bonic arm that can reach out and grap places.. have a power up that allows farther reach.. and yet another that can deal dmg..


and have the maps where there are platforms too far to jump but set higher and lower over say lava or space or toxic waste.. they need to use the arms to get around

make it like carnage heart on ps1. Invent some sort short, easy, bot scriptting language. Then people join you game and let their bots loose on other bots in a free for all or a tournament. Dont just stop a scriptting language...have a lot of cusotmization avaliable for the bot itself, like a point system..and you can earn points by killing and then upgrade a part..like the legs, or head, or something....the downside would be the steep learning curve for this mod and it would probably be unpopular. The upside would be the die hard small fan base that would develop...id play, and id win.
