Batman: Arkham Asylum
I picked this up from Steam over the weekend, as it was on sale and I'd been interested in it anyway.
I have to say, this is one fine game. I love how the combat is fluid; Batman can produce a flurry of offensive attacks and then suddenly block and counter an attack from behind in a believable, malleable sequence of movements. The fighting isn't jerky or abrupt at all. I also love how the styling is all based on the original animated characters, and even the voice actors returned for this tale. It lends a continuity to the storytelling if you watched any of the animated series. There have been some truly jaw-droppingly beautiful scenes throughout the game, and I've spent a great deal just examining how the scenery meshes together, and the detailing on the character models is superb. If you haven't picked this game up, and either enjoy Batman or combo-fighting games in general, you surely ought to. It is easily my favorite game of the year.

I'd say it's probably the best game of last year. The combat balance is superb and the controls are highly intuitive. It was nice that while the initial learning curve of playing the game is nearly instantaneous, developing advanced fighting skills takes a lot of time and effort. I think that's a sign of a great game. Oh, and the voice acting and writing reminds me of being 10 years old watching Batman the Animated Series or reading comics.
Plus, Poison Ivy is easy on the eyes. |

One of my mates from work has it on PS3 and was really into it. I havent played any new games in ages, but I am getting fed of World or Warcraft now, maybe I ought to look at something else - but I dont have the dough to get a console right now. Maybe next year...

I have it on PS3 and am about 5 hours into it. Great game so far. Finally a great Batman game. You feel like a total badass while playing it.

I love how Arkham Asylum stole the Spiderman physics of web slinging and actually perfected it. I can just imagine Marvel fuming and DC laughing all the way to the bank.
BTW, the sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum will be coming out next year and it looks fantastic. It's called Arkham City and we're going to see new faces from Batman's Rogue's Gallery. |

The new Batman game is in development right now. Arkham City is the working title, I believe. Looks awesome so far. I beat the original a while ago. Only thing left is the challenges, which I have done a few off so far. Girlfriend and I loved this game so much, we decided to go as The Joker and Harley Quinn from the game.

Very cool Chytrak-I'd love to see photos of that.
Yeah, Arkham City is looking pretty nice so far. We'll see if it lives up to the first iteration

awesome game. just getting around without fighting can be a blast and i love all the hidden stuff and the multiple ways to use things like the explosive gel. it took me a while to figure out that you want to be selective in throwing attacks to keep your combos building, so you don't want to mash and that you can chain using your batarang and leapfrog over guys heads.

Those are pretty awesome costumes, well done.
Also, yes Arkham Asylum really is the very best Batman game ever. I'm really looking forward to Arkham City.

It really is awesome how they made the fighting mechanic work. After all you're the goddamn Batman, one goon shouldn't be a problem for you so it's just fun as hell beating down a whole gang at a time.

Currently mid way through the game and having a good time hiding from the thugs while using my double batarangs to knock them out.
Xaxy mentioned Harley Quin's outfit, but no mention about Poison Ivy. Those are two ladies I would like to hang out with for a short period of time before realizing they want to kill me. |
