Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption: Grand Theft Horse?

I must say Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption looks quite incredible. The single-player cinematics and storyline look as good if not better than in their GTA series...but in the Wild West:

And then I took a detailed look at the multiplayer options.....

Just, wow....

It looks like Rockstar has another winner here.

What do you think?

Like.

I think it's a great update to the Red Dead Revolver. I enjoyed that game immensely. I was hoping that this would show up on the PC as well, but for now it is just console based.

Oh, man...I just realized they haven't yet confirmed it on the PC. That sucks. I hope they roll it out.

I know. When I first started seeing the posters for it here in NYC that was the first thing I looked for. Red Dead Revolver was such an awesome game, was like playing any of the spaghetti westerns. I would even borrow someone's xbox just so that I could play this game.

When I first saw this game, my first thought was "Western GTA... I'd play that". I mean the basic concept of GTA could really be applied to almost any time period (with guns).

GTA: Space Race
GTA: 1930 Gangsters

GTA: Roman Age?

Guess that is stretching it a bit.

Yes it looks amazing. My Game Informer mag came in yesterday and they gave it a 98/100 (game of the month obviously). I'm a huge GTA fan so I'll probably get it.

Did you ever play a GTA game all the way through? The GTA games are hugely overrated if all you do is go around "killing hookers and stealing their money." They have amazing stories, great character development, and epic endings, but you only see the true potential of the games if you do the story.

Yeah, starting at around Vice City, the series really picked up in terms of engaging and cinematic storylines. It felt like you were in the world. In Vice City's case, it felt like you were playing Miami Vice....except you were on the wrong side of the law...and Crockett and Tubbs had absolutely no idea where to find you at any time....

Even their other franchises had really good stories, Max Payne and Red Dead Revolver.

As I look at the trailers better, it's more like an update of the original game. Hopefully the story is just as compelling. RDR's story was really good.

chalk one up for me

I'll probably hold out for a PC release though since the Rockstar mod community is pretty damned strong.

I am hoping they would release it on the PC, but I'm not so hopeful as Revolver never made it.

I don't really think Rockstar had much to do with Max Payne besides porting it.

Red Dead Revolver was great though. I have fond memories of my cousin and I having quick draw duels for hours at a time.

I'm glad this is finally coming out. Seems like I've been waiting forever for this and Gran Turismo 5.

They did this and will be doing it again August 24th. MAFIA 2. The best cinematographic sand box game i've seen in a very long time! the 1st game was over 10 years ago and they destroyed GTA3 in terms of gameplay, cinematics, textures, story, .. I could go on and on.

Anyways back to the OP: the multiplayer option looks freaking awesome! Imagine that on the PC?!

Essentially, GTA is about going from A to B, to either deliver/retrieve information, goods, or death. It gets tedious after a while, but the plot normally kept me going. Until GTA4, that is.

I gave GTA4 a 10/10 and a 0/10 simultaneously. Beautiful and engrossing sandbox, GREAT characters and involving storyline, but the gameplay sucked total ass. Poor duck&cover system, amazingly stupid AI, clunky movement dynamics on foot, but worst of all: Driving a car in GTA4 totally blowed, and it IS supposed to be the most fun part. Vehicles had very poor physics. I sold my GTA4 halfway through just because driving around was too painful.

I've put a few hours into the game so far. I've really been role-playing it up too. I had this horse which was a beautiful cream color but as I was hog tying a bounty his damn buddies shot and killed it! I dispatched his buddies then executed the bounty because he got my horse killed! Now my current horse is a idiot. He takes forever to get to me when I whistle and he wonders off as soon as I hop off to skin an animal. I swear I'm about to put a bullet in him. I also went into the bar and had a few shots. As I was stumbling I bumped into this guy and I pulled my gun on him and he and everyone at his table jumped up and pointed their guns at me.. I calmly holstered my weapon, made some rude comments to the whores as I stumbled up to my room and fell asleep. It was funny as hell.

I thought the vehicle physics in GTA IV were the pinnacle of the series thus far...very crisp and the vehicles actually had suspension The only part about GTA IV I didn't like were the aiming controls, but they were a huge improvement over the previous games. It needs to move to a Uncharted or Gears of War-type control.

If you're going to shoot your horse, I recommend mounting it, getting it up to a full gallop, then shooting it in the back of the head. It's pretty funny

ROFL! I shot my horse today, I wasn't riding him though. I called him and he took his sweet as time getting there and as I walked up to him, he galloped forward a little. I walked up again and he galloped forward again. I didn't give him the chance to do it again.

Getting drunk in the game is pretty fun too.

Haven't shot my own horse yet but have had fun shooting the horses out from others and watching them go flying.

I'm only a few hours in but can tell this is going to suck up a lot of my game time over the next couple of months. My only complaint so far is the controls. I'm a PC gamer by nature (got my first home computer in 1981) and for some reason cannot seem to get used to using a control pad to move and aim. It's really weird. I can memorize complex keyboard layouts in a matter of minutes and play for hours without looking at the keyboard but even after 2 years of owning my XB360 I still have to look down to make sure I'm hitting the right buttons on the controller. I guess it's true that you can't teach and old dog new tricks .

Anyway, that's my minor rant. And before someone takes this the wrong way and calls me a PC elitist, I'm not suggesting that the mouse and keyboard are superior to a gamepad. I'm actually impressed by what many of you are able to accomplish using a gamepad. It's just for me, the controls are what kept me from finishing GTAIV and I hope that not going to happen here. I'm getting a little better at shooting from my horse and auto aim has helped tremendously but I have still had major problems completing some of the early missions. It's been frustrating but not enough to turn me away.

I just picked this up while I was out on the road last week, I must say it looks spectacular! Right now I'm debating between being responsible and going to sleep so I can function tomorrow or just rolling one up, popping the game in and playing until I pass out.

Adult decisions are hard.

Oh and to continue the side discussion...I have to say I was a little disappointed in GTA4 and I'm not really sure why. The game looks great, the plot is amazing and yet I just felt nothing for it, at least not in same way I did with previous games which I wasted AGES playing. About half way through I just started getting bored and I still have yet to finish it. In my opinion the whole concept of steal car, drive fast, do mission, repeat has just become stale but honestly I have no idea how you could make a GTA game without that formula...yet even more confusing is why I'm ranting about this at 230 in the am and not playing Red Dead...

I agree, Wes. I did eventually go back and finish it, but it had lost some luster. I think part of it was that the plot was centered around a guy who was committing crimes in order to exact revenge on someone (as opposed to trying to become the biggest crime lord in the city).

GTA: San Andreas might never be topped in terms of missions, plot, and overall insanity.

I'm really liking this game. I think the best part about it is there isn't a cell phone ringing every 2 minutes like with GTA 4. I think the free roam is btter in this than GTA as well. Fun to mess around in.

Indeed Derwood I don't think it will, and I think San Andreas was one of the reason I found GTA 4 disappointing. That game was so immense and so well written it was going to be very hard to top and in turn GTA 4 seemed almost like a step backwards in terms of the storyline and world you played in. I was hoping they would expand on using small towns, country side and multiple cities which helped break up the monotony of doing what quickly turns into repetitive missions. To each his own I suppose, I can see why people liked it but it just wasn't my cup of tea.

As for Red Dead...still haven't played it and now I have to go out and work so, knock on wood, maybe I'll have time to delve into it later tonight.

This game is awesome as hell. Never has a game in a long time made me think I was actually living in another era. It actually feels like you are in the wild west. So far I've herded cattle, roped some wild horses, wasted some bunnies eating vegetables out of the ranch's garden, accidentally stolen a stage coach (hit the wrong button!), had a duel with a guy who insulted me in a town named Armadillo, and lost a game of horse shoes BEST GAME EVER!!!!!!!

Oh, and the main character is a fucking badass. He even walks like a cowboy.

Wow, The first song played in Mexico was amazing. The atmosphere of the game while I travelled down river to the town was possibly one of the coolest scenes ever from a movie or game. I'm sure it won't be exactly the same for everyone due to the randomness of the game but it was perfect in my game.

It doesn't get better than that. They need a PC port.
