Half-Life 2 Help?
Greetings, TFPers,
Need y'all's help with something. I purchased HL2 back when it first came out, but never finished the bastard. A couple of weeks ago I came across my old copy and uploaded it onto my laptop, thinking "hey, why not?" Well, after having to buy a new Orange Box copy (came with all the extras, though, which is nice) because my old Steam account was both old and used a password I could no longer retrieve from an email account I no longer have, I finally got the thing running last night. Controls and play are fine for the most part, likewise graphics. Not bad for an '06 HP running WinXP, thinks I. Alas, I have problems...Murphy has found me again. Every time the blasted game goes to load, it crashes. It "experiences a problem" and closes itself out every time the game itself has to load during play, or when you hit a "named" screen. I've checked all over the place, and discovered that Norton will interfere. OK, been meaning to switch to AVG anyway, so I get rid of my old/expiring copy of Norton. Game still crashes. So does anybody know what could be causing this problem and how it might be fixed? Thanks! |
