Can anyone play Minesweeper???

When I first got my computer, I would just log on, and when there was nothing to do, I would play Solitaire, but that bored the hell outta me. So I decided to learn how to play Minesweeper.
Mistake.
I soon figured it out, and now I do it without even thinking. While a webpage is loading, or a song downloads, I just play away. I play that damn game in my head during the day. I shit you not. But the obsession is subsiding now. Its becoming more casual, thank God. But I was just wondering, are there any TFPers out there who can relate to this?
If so, then post your record times, mine are:
Beginner- 5 seconds
Intermediate- 35 seconds
Expert- 103 seconds

Thanks!

You... my fellow TFPer are a freak!

But of course, thats a total overstatement if we ever look at bones....

/me looks at bones
Yep, Yeah, you're not so much the freak I first stated you to be.
I can play it, but I don't get too addicted. When I'm hyper, I might just customize it to the largest size with only 10 mines and win in 1 second which only fuels my psychoness, but thats just me... hehehe

Feel better?

Mega Minesweeper.

It has a setting that:
• Support for games up to 32,767, x 32,767 fields with up to 1,073,676,288 mines.

I was well over 8 hours into such a game....think I got some 15% done. Needless to say the mode is called "Crazy"

I had took a programing class my Senior year of High School, There were only 4 of us in there, so we'd just do our programing as a team and finish whatever we were supposed to do within the first 30 minutes of class, which left us over an hour with nothing to do. We downloaded Emulators and would LAN Mario Kart and Street Fighter, until the teacher started deleting everything off the hard drives, so it got to be a hassle re-download everything. So we just started having Minesweeper tournaments. I remember my best time on Intermidate was somewhere around 45-50 seconds.

Back in the lame ol' days, one of my proudest moments was beating expert mindsweeper at 79 seconds. I managed to get it down to 75 once. Sad.

Oh, and I got lucky once on beginner and cleared it in 1 second.

I've done the same thing with solitaire, made it into a speed game. Can't remember my best time off the top of my head though, it was under a minute...

Had a similar situation in my programming class. As the year went on the teacher started letting us get away with more and more. We've had Quake 2 lans and once we even loaded up Postal 2 in there granted it ran like shit. Sometimes its nice having a lazy teacher. Harder to learn but after you do get away with a lot.

Did a search on Google for Mega Minesweeper. Found lots of stuff for Mac. nuthin' for the PC. Shucks.

I was lookin' forward to trying something crazy too

Found some other interesting sites dedicated to the math involved in programing the "randomness" of where the mines are placed. Math makes my brain hurt!

I just play minesweeper when I have nothing else to do at the moment. My best beginner time is like 35 seconds...

But I always remember my uncle's secret strategy to winning. He said you just have to imagine that each square is a city block and millions of lives are in your hands...

there's a hack for this minesweeper for windows.

open up minesweeper, start the game by clickin on a square.

now, press the 'show desktop' button on the quicklaunch.

now, open minesweeper back up again and the clock has stopped!!

i accidentally found it.

btw, i've beaten all 3 levels of it

why don't you just edit the score file to give yourself a time of 1 second?

bundy, I don't know if there are world championships, but I know that there is a list of the 100 greatest players. I'm not on it, but I could be. Its just kinda time consuming and it requires lots of proof for something that isn't gonna help me anyway.

I had to delete it, because I was doing the same thing...thinking out mine patterns as I fell asleep was amusing, but a little disconcerting. I think I managed to get under 100 s on expert, but I have friends who were far better than I.

The same thing happened to me. I would play the game everytime I could and yes even in my head sometimes. Don't worry it'll go away in like a month, as long as you try not to play every 5 seconds.
Best Times:
Beginner: 4
Intermediate: 38
Expert: 96 (yeah under 100(now I feel as if I've wasted so much time))

I at one point obsessed over minesweeper... would play it during the long load times on websites.

I haven't played it at all since getting my new computer and cable modem.

This thread has made me start playing it again, sadly.
