My feelings about the online gaming community
Hey all. In honor of Star Wars Galaxies being released, I thought I would take a stab at a quick comic. Some of you might find it funny, some may not. Just a little poke at the attitude you see quite frequently in online games.
I remember when I bought WC3. My friend and I were playing online the first night. One team beat us, and proceeded to comment about what noobs we were. P.S. We weren't being jerks when the guy starting calling us that, I am usually very quiet while gaming online. |

One thing that bugs me about Warcraft III online is this whole "download=ban" mentality. You join a game that has a map you don't... you get banned... Are they trying to create some kind of caste system for Battle.net? Sure, I know it's annoying to wait for someone to get a map, but if everyone was able to get the map, no one would have to download it...

the best thing about online gaming is doing whatever you can to piss off those clan idiots. Especially when you start getting tired of a game after a few hours because the only insult they know is "noob". They call you noob even if you are owning them just because you killed them with the wrong weapon or some other "clan code of idiocy" nonsense. Its even better to jump into an argument every few minutes and say something really asanine just to keep the argument going, then slip into anonimity just as fast as you entered, and watch the carnage. These kids really need to get out more and realize, its just a freakin game.

RTFM!!!! NOOBS!!! I REMEMBER BACK IN THE DAY WHEN PEOPLE KNEW HOW TO PLAY THIS GAME!! I AM AN ORIGINAL GANGSTER YO!! PEOPLE SUCK!! IF I HAD IT MY WAY, THERE WOULD ONLY BE 10 PEOPLE PLAYING THIS GAME. THATS ME, MY SISTER, AND ALL HER FRIENDS CAUSE THEY ARE HOT. NO, I AM NOT TYPING IN CAPITAL LETTERS TO SCREAM AT YOU. I AM HIDING THE FACT THAT I HAVE VERY SMALL TESTICLES. Gad... its sad how some people act, just because you cannot see thier face.

Age is a huge factor.
When I ran a CS league back in beta-4 days, the CS community was generally pretty cool but now there are so many 13 year olds playing that you can't find a server anywhere that isn't infested with name-calling retards.

xbox Live is just as bad, if not worse. It seems to be infested with 14 year olds. For a while I used that headset, but I got tired of hearing cracking voices try and insult my mother and yell "Motherfucker" a lot. Now it just collects dust.
Only time I will usually game with anything other than AI is when I put on a Lan Party.

The Online gaming community is raw shit. Play EverQuest for a few hours. It really is ridiculous. Players are so obsessed with being better than new players that all you can do is say NOTHING to anyone until you are a high level. If you ask a question in the game, you're a newbie. If you die, you're a newbie. If you use a certain weapon in counter-strike, you're a newbie. It's fucking pathetic. Games like EverQuest and Asheron's Call should ban the world "noob." Those who use it should have their accounts suspended for a week at a time.
Just as bad as using "noob" is using "l33t speak" in an online virtual world. Nothing is worse than seeing a clan of people in EQ shouting "OMG WE JUST TEH PWNT THAT DR4GON!!!!" When I played EQ (I quit about a year ago simply because of the people I'm describing...and trust me, I was addicted) and saw anyone l33t speaking, I asked them what they were talking about. That just pisses them off even more. And the number one question that will get the noob-callers: "What's a noob?" Ask them what a noob is after they've called you one. Trust me, it will piss them off to no extent. -Lasereth

I guess us mac gamers have it lucky =). The online community is usually better, probably because immature fuckhead can't afford to buy a mac =). Nearly all of online gaming is done through Mac-Only GameRanger, which a neat piece of software that lets you just ignore the major idiots.

The most fun I ever had in Team fortress half life mod was joining a server where a lot of clan members were playing, but the server is in no way affiliated with the clan. Then simply affix the clans sig to your name, tell them [mdk]Hawk said you were in and now 2nd in command. After that things should pretty much blow up.
And the map distribution method on warcraft3 is messed up. I believe (strongly) that the host is the only one that distributes the map. So everyone that doesnt have it dls it from the host. This creates a bottle neck on the hosts computer which leads to slow downloads by all. They really should take a look a bitTorrent and impletment a p2p method of distribution. |

I'd just like to say not all clanners are idiots. While there are a lot of clans made up of 14 year old idiots that have no point to them, there are also clans made up of more mature gamers that play matches and in leagues and stuff, which can be a lot of fun. In my experience, a good clan match is miles more fun than your average public server game.

I know when I win, I try to be gracious, and when I lose, I lose. I really hate it when people beg and plead for you not to kill them, and then if you won't, they get pissed and start swearing, and then threaten to send you a virus... *whew* Sorry, venting... |

It feels pretty good to have someone insult you, call you a noob, cuss at you, and then get their ass handed to them by you.
When this happens, it's hard not to say something in jest, however, them shutting up is a pretty good reward in itself. |

hehehehhe... .. all good. what really bothers me is Spawn Killling... I play alot of AVP2 (aliens vs predator 2) and there are so many dishonorable fuckalls that it makes the game much less enjoyable than it should be... .and then of course there are the aimbotters.. and the peeps that take advantage of anomalies within the game itself.. like zoom hacking with the sniper rifle.. so they shoot there one kill sniper rifle like a freaken automatic pistol ... doesnt give ya much of a chance.. and then there is the staggr fire.. where you press the fire button repeatedly... and it is deadly accurate ... anyhow.. lol.. what are you gonna do.. people will generally take the easy way out... I am both glad and saddened that I am not one of them..
There are those games however where everyone is koo and there are no cheaters.. and you can actually comend someone for a good shot.. and they return the compliments when due.. those few and far between .. but.. it is sweeeeet when games like that occur. |
