Battlefield 1942 addiction

Are you as addicted to this game as I? I'm playing multiplayer and it seems as though an half hour has gone by and a quick clance at the clock tells me it's going on 4AM!

Wait until you delve into the unholy realm of mods, where time ceases to exist, and there is only face stabbing/shooting to be done.

I can relate my friend. There was a time where I was playing almost every night from about 8PM-1AM. I agree with Phaenx, mods are ungodly killers of time and space.

Makes me think of the first time I played CS. I was soooo pissed off because I was doing poorly, and I couldn't understand why the hell people made such a big deal about this game. At the same time, I couldn't stop playing because of the urge to get better .

P.S. You are correct sir. BF1942 kicks ass in my book also. Can't wait for the BF:Vietnam they anounced recently.

P.P.S. Just saw your post Neverborn. If you haven't tried it yet, you should definately download the multiplayer demo and try it out. One bit of caution though - it takes a pretty beefy system to run smooth.

No doubt on the system resources. I tried playin the demo once on my old system and the installer has this big hand that comes out of your monitor and bitch slapped me upside my head.

So, I built a new machine...a killer machine and bought the game. I'm able to load everything to the max on this one.
Desert Combat .38d is an exceptional mod. Know of any others that are worth the download?

I was addicted to BF1942 for a while. My system ran regular BF games okay (GeForce3, 1ghz, 512mb) but I could only play in games with 40 ppl max. Which is a good amount of people by me. Yet I get alot of slowdowns and downright freezes in Desert Combat, so I just avoid the mods. Plus I just dont think the mod is very well balanced. ie helicopters.

I guess my system pooping out is just it's way of saying "You've had enough for tonight, buddy, get to sleep."

Yes, I play DoD mainly for the Fg42 though. My favorite WWII weapon.

This game has been sucking most of my free time, several friends and myself have just started clan, so we've been playing more than ever.

Battlefield: Vietnam should kick buckets of ass too.

I cant stand this game online. I get about 1 or 2 fps online. It was fun in single player, I wish single player was better. It sould have used more missions types. Like search+rescue, or capture alive, or assinate....

The next expansion, BF1942: Secret Weapons, is supposed to have missions with objectives. There will be maps of secret test facilities and stuff where you have to blow up this and capture that. At least that's what the BF192 website said...

BF1942 is an amazing game. After a mishap with my 1.3 CPU and the problem with my broke-ness now I'm back on my Celeron 500 (ugh) and I can only play in 640x480.

I think this game is loads better than Medal of Honor. Though singleplayer is much better on MOH. Multiplayer OWNS on BF 1942.

Okay, stupid ? but what type of "beefy system" would I need to play this game? I have a 1.2 GHz and a Geforce2 card. Should I just stick to CS?

Jbinh4, from the stats you listed, I had the same system as you and played multiplayer fine on the internet. I couldn't max everything out, but the graphics were nice enough for me.

I too was addicted to this game until one day I realized that I had seen almost every scenario there was to see in that game. It is still great for an occasional play, but I will wait for the expansion packs to get back into it.

Grr... So, this is probably not the place to whine about this, and I apologize to those bothering to read this far down in the thread, but this thread just prompted an unpleasant experience.

So, I went to replay bf1942 due to this thread resparking intrest in that game for me. Well, I needed to install the 1.4 update as well as the new Battle of Britain map. But, when I went to play it, the game wouldn't load, so I uninstalled and attempted to reinstall... When I realized that I had the disks for the game in a folder, but had misplaced my cd covers. After about an hour of searching for the covers (and the corresponding cd keys) I gave up. Now, I can't play that game online unless I want to again pony up another 60 or so bucks for the game (and Road to Rome as well). Grrr... I did try to use a key generator for the game but that didn't work, though I was pretty certain it wouldn't... And am kind of glad it doesn't, as the makers of that game deserve their money... However, I feel sort of screwed over in the deal... Anyone have a work around for this problem? Would emailing EA Games get me anywhere? I think I did register when I bought the game... hmm... Anyway, just venting... But if anyone does have any tips I would be happy to hear them!

BF1942 is fun for awhile but it really starts to get annoying when 50 - 75% of players on the server are all bazookas and can pick you off from 1/2 way across the map. I swear, those things are more accurate than the sniper rifles. Should be interesting when the 'Secret Weapons of WW2' expansion is released and all these guys will have jet packs as well.

I was thinking of picking up this game but my hesitation now is will this game still be a viable source of online fun with the advent of the 2 most anticipated games of 2003 DoomIII and HL2?

I can't get into the mods of BF1942. I tried, Lord knows.

I've hosted several LAN parties at the house, that were BF42 ONLY. Anything else was not to be played.

Of course, I can't play it at all now, until I get my MB/Proc/RAM replaced to stop these reboots. It sucks.

It has only been recently that I've started playing BF1942 and I find that most of my time goes to Desert Combat. I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of my Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 so that I can take to the skies.

BF1942 is probably my favorite FPS of the moment. I didn't think I could get into a "realistic" game, but man...it's so big and there are so many options. Between tanks, planes, jeeps, and all of the different occupations in all of the different terrains, this game is so much fun. We're all addicted to it down at a gaming cafe. We play late into the night.

I know it's cheap, but Berlin and Stalingrad are my favorite maps. There's something really funny about grenading and watching six bodies fly up in the air.

Oh, just a question...what occupation do you guys find yourself being the most? I'm usually a medic in the original or support in Desert Combat.
