Left 4 Dead: Zombie apocalypse multiplayer co-op!
I know a few people are really looking forward to Left 4 Dead, the next major release from the legendary Valve (and Turtle Rock Studios--read: Counterstrike).
For those who haven't heard much yet, have a look at video below. Gameplay footage: If you preorder the game now (the release date is November 18), you get early access to the demo! I'm thinking of doing this because I'm dying to see how it is. I love multiplayer co-op games, and this one looks amazing! Has anyone played the demo yet? How is it? Is it good? Do you like it? OMG, what's it like?! What do you guys think about this kind of gaming? I think it's going to be really engaging and rewarding. I hope to see more of this in the future. I like where Valve is going with this.

Pre-ordered...
downloading... I trust Valve enough to buy a game before reviews.

Yeah, thanks, man. I just gave into peer pressure.
I'm locked and (down)loading.... UPDATE: aberkok and I fired this up and gave it a go. Two thumbs up! There's some amazing co-op gameplay here, and I highly recommend at least trying the demo when it gets a general release! It's the kind of gameplay that makes it impossible to survive unless you know how to work together. I think voice chat will be quite advantageous for this one. It's not all about firepower, it's about deciding when to use it. This isn't a game about shooting all willy-nilly until everything is dead. Doing that just might get you--and your fellow survivors--killed. I'm really excited about playing the demo more, and more for the release of the game.

The demo is filled with awesomeness but it is two VERY short levels. Single player works well enough to be fun but multiplayer is definitely what it was made for.
I saw someone complain that is was just HL2 with zombies but I have played the first 2 levels about 30 times and I am still having fun. My biggest complaint would be that none of my friends on steam have preordered the game yet so I am stuck playing with a bunch of random kids. Then they run from the rooftop to the safehouse as fast as they can. I like taking my time and looking in every room of every building.

OMG! I love games like this! I'm a huge Resident Evil fan and I can't wait for RE5! Do you know if this game will be available on Play Station 3 at anytime? My PC's are too out dated to play the new video games that are out today and I don't own an Xbox.

Sorry, SheDevil. I am pretty certain that Valve said they're not doing L4D on PS3.

Okay, if you go into Steam, you should be able to search for groups. Just type in a search for "Tilted Forum Project." The alternative would be to post your Steam ID and one of us could invite you.
Voice is built-in. * * * * * Okay, after having played the (rather brief) demo a bit more, I'm really starting to like this game. Friendly fire is a huge issue. This is because of the nature of the zombie mobs which can come out of nowhere, and from any direction. Always check your fire! (It's actually quite funny to hear the voice sets in response to friendly fire. ) It's all too easy to walk into someone's "firing solution," especially when in close quarters. Most of my friendly fire is now a result of one of my team moving around too much and getting in the way--as I'm already firing! Your positioning and thoughtful movements are key. This is going to take a while to get used to, but sometimes you just have to resort to melee or just standing there until you can get a clear shot. There is absolutely no way to turn off friendly fire, it's an integral part of the gameplay. I've taken to the habit of crouching when I'm in front so people can shoot over me. But this only works for so long, since the game is so dynamic. You never really know when or from where zombies will come at you. I've also taken to the habit of always looking behind us. This game will make you paranoid.

Alright this game is awesome. I love how you have to play like a military unit in order to survive. Truly having covering fire, truly watching your shots, truly helping each other out in order to live. Plus it's so different every time you play. Unless it gets hosed for having a demo that is better than the actual game, I will be buying it.

Anyone else have this pre-loaded and burning a hole in their hard drive?
I keep trying imagine what the other maps will be like. I like what they've done with what we've seen in the city so far. They did a great job with the apocalyptic cityscape. Abandoned cars, torn-up apartments, collapsed stairwells in the subway system. Generally, the environment is set up well to allow for an anything-can-happen scenario where zombies can get at you from places you didn't know had gaping cracks or holes in them. They even come at you as they spill out from the rooftops. It's one of those games where it's hard to for your team to hunker-down defensively. There are no easy choke points and you always feel you should keep moving for fear of something nasty coming at you. There are no static spawn points, so you never know what will happen. I'm guessing the longer you take, the more worn down you'll get before you find the next safe room. But at the same time you can't move too quickly for fear of attracting too much attention too quickly. Why do I have this much to say when I've only played the demo? Plus it's a small demo at that. November 18th can't come too soon.

Played the 360 demo last night and I had a blast. I don't think my PC can handle it otherwise I'd try it for PC too. Getting this from GameFly first to try it before I buy it.

Yeah maybe it wouldn't be such a good idea to take a victory lap of the final room before entering the safe room. Oh yeah, that's what you did last time we played.

Welcome to the fight for survival, my friend! Tomorrow is the day!
* * * * * I've noticed they've just added a feature for making games based on Steam group, which means it will be easy for Steam TFP members to set things up. So for those of you getting this game, please be sure to join the Steam group "Tilted Forum Project." As much as it pains me to say this, I might not be on tomorrow night for the release because I have a book launch to go to. If I don't get home too late, I might jump on, so we'll see. Definitely Wednesday night after 9 or 10 some time.

Ahh what fun. The game unlocked at midnight and I played until 4AM and had to get up at 7AM. I haven't done that for a while.
If you want to try something difficult and FUN, try the versus mode. Basically two teams (8 people) take turns playing each stage of a campaign... but you have 4 as survivors and 4 as the zombie bosses. Much fun to be had with this game. Oh and I LOVE the tank.

I'm so jealous!
It pains me that I have an event tonight and can't play. I don't know if I'll get home at a reasonable hour to play it enough to satisfy me. If I stay up too late, I usually catch a cold, especially at this time of year. I heard about that versus mode, and I liked what I read. Is it true they make the zombie team cycle through the Tank to allow for even play? (It's the ultimate uber class, I'm sure.) Personally, I'm most looking forward to seeing the other maps. I'm also interested in how the reputation tracking is. (Yes, your fellow players will know about your bad friendly-fire habits....)

Yes you randomly get the Tank and it only appears at certain times (I am not sure yet how it is determined). Most of the time you have a Smoker, a Boomer, and 2 Hunters running around. The Tank is maybe once per section of the campaign.

wish I would have known that. Game Stop gave me hell to get the $5 off pre-order deal. I had to get the manager and everything. Even though Gamestop.com has it for 44.99 pre-order, along with the rest of the universe.

Why? I love playing as a boomer... find a place to hide up high and puke on them as they walk by... watch the horde come running... rinse and repeat.

agreed, the boomer is the bane of our campaign runs. the smoker and the hunter are meh and the tank is just time consuming.

Nope it's like playing a campaign. There are tons of random 1 shot zombies and the assortment of boss zombies. I don't know what the normal respawn rate is but there were times I had to wait 18 seconds to respawn as a zed.
