Rate the last game you played
So we have a rate the last movie you watched thread, lets start a game one!
Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 2 for PSP - 7/10 It was fun, but I thought it got very repetitive over time. However, it was much more interesting than the first game. Now I'm going to play FF1 for PSP, I'm sure that'll be much better.

Star Wars Battlefront for PS2. 9.6/10
Seriously, this is the best Star Wars games in history. I know hard core gamers like to complain about bots (try playing online), but the reality of Star Wars is that you want to be the hero. You want to fight of hordes of baddies (or goodies) and win the day. If the bots were too smart the game play would take on a completely different feel and it wouldn't have that massive battle feel because you'd only be able to get through 2-3 enemies at a time. It's fun to have 77 kills, 4 deaths, and still have it a close game. Not only that, but the game is true Star Wars, featuring the John Williams soundtrack in all it's glory along with details that would make even the nerdiest Star Wars geek swoon. I'd recommend it to anyone who's ever enjoyed a FPS, from CS to Battlefield. Last edited by Willravel; 08-11-2008 at 03:44 PM.. Reason: "battlefield" |

Braid (XBLA) 9.9/10
About as perfect and fresh a game as I've ever played. Despite the $15 price tag, it's well worth it. New, innovative puzzle action while paying homage to platformers of yesteryear. Gotta love it!

Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2 - 10/10
It's Asteroids on acid. Just don't look at the leaderboards because you'll know how bad you really suck and it'll ruin the fun.

Tales of the Abyss (PS2) 8/10
Traditional JRPG so if that's not your fair don't apply. Best combat system out of all of the Tales games I've played. Music is okay, nothing that got on my nerves but nothing that made me stop and think this is amazing like Tales of Legendia. The story actually isn't that bad however, the main character can and will get on your nerves during the course of the game. Since the story is partially about his own personal evolution he gets better(or worse depending on your view) as the game goes on.

As mentioned above, I've been it plenty of times, and it's not QUITE as in depth as it's PC brethren, but it's an amazing game with great replayability.

Soul Calibur (not sure which version) Bought it off of XBL.
6/10 I enjoy it a lot, but I beat the Arcade pretty quickly, and was disappointed it was so short. Granted, I didn't pay much for it, but for the price, I figured it'd be longer. I am having fun playing multiplayer and time trial, though. Now to buy SC:IV for some Yoda action.

Pixeljunk Eden for PS3/PSN
8/10. With 1 being abysmal, 5 being average and 10 being perfect, 8 is a very high score on my scale. Great game. A little light on content, but very fun physics and web-swinging mechanics. Good game for mellowing out and playing to pass some time. Has more of an arcade feel than normal platformers as it focuses more on getting high scores and trying the same levels repeatedly rather than just progressing through levels. |

SC IV, 8/10, I'm loving it (better than 3), but I don't like how the Tower on levels 20+ essentially force you to beat them with Soul Crush + Critical Finish because the ridiculous amount of health they have. I'd rather beat them down with combos than have to use Yun-seong in every party because his GB is so easy to get off...

Class based RPG similar to FFX system(turn based, all your guys stand in a row, HP/MP). 5/10. The game is way too easy, and this was the boss theme(which I award an additional 1 point for, so 6/10). So terrible but I love it. |

Super Off Road - SNES 8/10
I remember playing this a ton when I was a kid. I ran across it while looking for Chrono Trigger and had to play it for a few hours. It's quite difficult, The Silver truck is so hard to beat consistantly. I finally got to a point where my Nitro was pretty much maxed at 99 every race and his Nitro was getting low. He had about 20 left when I quit After Drego mentioned it earlier, I realized I never got around to playing Chrono Trigger. I'd always wanting to play it but never got around to it. It's good, I dunno if It's better than FF6 though.. We'll see. Currently... I'm.. oh... ugh how do you explain where you are in this game!?

Metal Gear Solid 4: 9/10.
One of the best games I've ever played. I realize the series is very story heavy and cutscene heavy, but sometimes I just thought to myself "ok when the fuck am I going to get to play again?" Not really trying to sound like it's a complaint, but the gameplay is just too damn good. :P

Destroy All Humans (Wii Version): 3/10
It might have been better if the control scheme wasn't pure crap. It uses the point to the side of the screen to turn the camera that direction control scheme. This is by far the worst thing any Wii game could possibly do. Also, the graphics seem extremely under par for even a Wii game. Some of the weapons were cool, I suppose, but everything else about the game is just lacking. Thankfully, I got this game for free and will likely be able to get ~$30 for it (Thank you Goozex).

Bionic Commando: Rearmed.
9/10 I would recommend this game to anybody who was alive and old enough to play NES back when games were coming out for it. Despite the updated graphics/music, the gameplay is extremely faithful to the original, the only enhancements made to the game actually help the gameplay rather than dilute it like most "remakes". There are "challenge rooms", which are kind of like Metal Gear's "VR training" missions, pushing the grappling mechanics to the extreme and forcing the player to master the intricacies of the game in order to proceed through them (they are also entirely optional). The game is extremely hard if you're not used to traditional platformers. The lack of the ability to jump requires you to master the grappling mechanics, or you won't make it very far. However, this is how games should be: difficult, but not impossible. You will actually find yourself getting better every time you play, and pulling off some amazing moves that you wouldn't have thought you could do before. The "close calls" while swinging around are what really makes this game exciting, like almost launching yourself off of a cliff but saving yourself at the last minute with a well-timed, extremely lucky grapple. It's the most polished downloadable game I've played on PSN to date. The amount of content packed into the game for the price almost makes me feel like I'm stealing the game. Definitely worth the $10. |

Actually, just fired up UT3 (PC) for the first time in like a year. I thought I was done with FPS games. Had a blast, and I was only playing Deathmatch against bots. The UT games have always ruled. IMHO, much better than the quake/doom series. Gonna have to dust off Painkiller tomorrow, another favorite.

I've unlocked probably about 3/4 of the content so far for Soul Calibur IV, the newest addition to the series. Wonderful graphics (and WOW they did a perfect job on Yoda), fun gameplay, similar plot line to the other Soul Calibur games.
I give it an 8/10 only because the controls aren't quite as intuitive as say the 2nd game. |

Flat Out- Head On (PSP) - 5/10
This game has so much potential. It seemed as if was going to rival Burnout Revenge (which is one of my favorite games in that genre). However after the inital vehicle you buy, everything after that is ridiculously too difficult to keep on the road. So much in fact, it pretty much ruins the game. I checked around online for reviews to establish if I was just sucking, but it is a common complaint with the game on all versions (pc/console/psp). Too bad.

I know I'm super late on this, but a friend just let me borrow Rock Band for PS3...
I don't even know what to give it as far as a rating... it's just so fun and challenging at the same time! I'm on drums, another friend of mine is on bass and my girlfriend is singing, and we've made it far enough that we can't get more fans without upping the difficulty level to hard. She has no problem with it, but I'm still struggling a bit on the songs introduced while playing medium, so we'll see how this goes.

Uncharted: 7/10. IMO I found it to be Tomb Raider with a dude, more shooting, and a cover system. The story wasn't very compelling and they really didn't go into the background of the main character Nathan or the supporting characters at all. I'm definitely glad I rented it because it was a pretty short game too.
Rented Heavenly Sword last night and I'm already on Chapter 4 of 6 so I should be close to beating it already. Once I beat it though I'm going to go back and try Hell mode.

I'm playing Crysis right now and I am enjoying it. I like how its not entirely linear, so that I can opt not to fight, as long as I can survive carefully. I also love the suit powers switching.

Heavenly Sword: 5/10. Honestly not even worth the $8.55 I spent at Blockbuster. The gameplay resembled God of War which isn't necessarily a bad thing but wow was this game short as hell. I mean I just rented the damn thing last night and I've already beaten it. It's about 6 hours on Normal, and I'm not even going to bother with Hell mode because it's just a harder difficulty. The unlockables are pretty meh and really not even worth the trouble to unlock because everything can be downloaded from PSN. Overall I would not recommend spending ANY money on this game whatsoever. If you really want to play it just borrow it from a friend.

Guitar Hero 3 (xbox) 7/10: Good song selection but the battles with the great guitarists of yore were a chore to get through. Everything on the screen seems to be really cramped but overall a fun game. I rented it through gamefly so I paid nothing for it.
Too Human Demo (xbox) 8/10: Decent demo length with a good amount of story thrown in. Controls are a bit wonky for me (use sword with right stick when most games have that mapped to camera control) but once I got used to it, things were easier. Probably will play the game when I get it from gamefly.

Bladestorm: The Hundred Years War 8/10
It's a strategy/action game in the same vein as the Kessen games on the PS2. You take up the role of a mercenary during the war and able to freely choose between fighting for England or France. During the course of the game your merc takes charge of different units/squads in order to capture towns, bases and castles. As the game continues your merc levels up his ability to use different squads. Higher level, more health, damage, skills last longer, etc. The game features tons of different squads from catapults to mounted archers to spell casters. You can also buy different swords, shields, armor, etc. as the game goes on. The strategy is mostly in the form of Rock, Paper, Scissors for all squads/units. Calvary beats Footmen, Footmen beats Pikemen and, Pikemen beats Calvary. With every unit being strong to several units, weak to others and even-neutral with the rest. However, the good thing about the strategy is that with proper flanking you can remove the natural weakness to other units. (Pikemen can't really stop a horse that charges him from behind after all.) Even with all the good things I can say about the game I will readily admit it's not for everyone and the Xbox Live demo doesn't leave you a lot to work with. I suggest a rental to see if it's truly your cup of tea.

City of Heroes/Villains (9/10) PC - I played it for a year or so after launch and decided to resub after I got bored in WoW and Age of Conan.
I forgot how much fun the game is and the devs have really polished and added content to the game. The leveling has been smoothed so its not as painful as it was post-release. Most of the players are friendly and I have no problems finding groups to run missions. The missions can be repetitive but with a good group you hardly notice. There are so many options to customize your hero or villain's powers it can be a chore just to pick one. Even though it was released in 2004 it seems to have retained a large player base, at least on the server I am on. I'll probably be playing it at least until Lich King is released for WoW, and maybe beyond. |

Ok just finished Crysis.. I'll give it a 8/10
It's a fun game with a great system of play. You switch the modes of your suit to allow you to do certain things when you need them. The aiming isn't as straightforward as most games with a crosshair. Instead, you just get a circle where your shots will more or less land inside. The gameplay is great through the first half, but then you're forced to trudge through a zero-fun zero-gravity section, then you have to go through a CPU-pounding blizzard using a gun with infinite ammo at 8 frames per second. Now, I have a pretty good computer, but this thing abused every memory and CPU resource I had in some scenes. The end is fun enough, but there were some plot lines that could have extended the game a lot longer in some points. I beat the game with about 6-8 hours of play.
