Osu! - PC Rhythm Game (free)
osu! - rhythm is just a click away
Do you like rhythm games? Does clicking your mouse appeal to you? Does picking your own music and creating your own maps for others to play make you happy? osu! is an Ouendan (DS) type game where you click on colored circles to the beat/rhythm of the music. You download the base osu! software, and download beatmaps which are songs and ... beat mappings... that go along with the song. The choices are centered around pop, dance and asian songs, but there are also a number of english songs as well. A built in editor lets you choose any song you have laying around (mp3/ogg), determine its BPM, and create your own mappings. Most mappings have at least a Normal difficulty level, including an Easy, Hard or Impossible difficulty if the person behind it decided to make one for it. I've been having enough fun with the Easy and Normal levels for now. Right now, I think 'Leah - Calling' is one of the better programmed beatmaps available. Signups are free and required to download beatmaps. Use a fake email if you want. I haven't received any emails in the past two weeks. If you decide to create a beatmap, you might want to post it so we can pump up your map ratings > osu! - rhythm is just a click away

okay so Elite Beat Agents is the english name. I blame my friends for calling it the Japanese name!
So how is everyone doing so far? Any good beatmaps worth playing? You may notice that ... not all of them are great Code:

I swear I'm not getting any better at playing this
Here is a beatmap I made... osu! - Login It is unapproved, so it will not apply to your stats or score. The approval process is kind of slow! I may make changes later on, but this is up for now. (saying something interesting about it may speed up the process, but shh!)

I'm a huge metal fan, so I grabbed up all of the metal songs on there, like Finntroll - Trollhammaren, the Alestorm song, Dragonforce, some other stuff... I love the Super Mario Bros. techno song though, it's a lot of fun to play.
I've been trying to make a beatmap but I don't understand how some of the stuff in the editor works... I can get the beat down perfectly, but I have trouble with the sliding notes and stuff, specifically getting them to land on the right beats of the song. |

Pause is your friend!
Under Timing, set the Time Divisor to half (eigth note) or quarter (sixteenth note). You can then start the slide pretty much wherever you might need it. You'll click once to start it, the move your mouse out and left click to set a waypoint, or right click to finalize the slide. If you want it to go back and forth on the same slide, left click once to set, add any way points, right click to finalize, grab the end of the slide in the timeline at the top and drag it to the right. I think slides will always force a full beat (quarter note) slide. Once you can get one down, it gets really easy!
