WoW - Video issues post 2.4 patch

I'm among the ranks of many who are having video issues with WoW after the 2.4. Just curious as to how many folks here have it.

Me:
Windows XP SP2
2GB RAM
AMD Athlon Dual Core X2
Video: NVIDIA PCI Express GE Force 7800-GTX (256MB DDR3)
Mother Board: 939 - A8N SLI Premium

I get terrible video flickers and it's almost unplayable. After playing for 30min - 1 hour it sometimes hangs on me. i can alt-tab and close the game fine.

What i've done:
1) Removed WTF and Addon folder
2) changed all video settings, turning enhanded video off
3) used lower Frame Rate
4) tried this setting I saw on the forums: DISABLE vert sync, ENABLE hardware mouse acceleration, DISABLE smooth mouse
5) installed AMD_Dual-Core_Optimizer_113 from www.amd.com
6) installed MS fix http://support.microsoft.com/?id=896256 that's supposed to help dual core game performance
7) Motherboard chipset updated to Chipset 6655
8) Updated NVIDIA drivers to Version 169.21

NOTHING has helped. I'm going to post this in the WOW forums too, but just wondering if other TFP'ers are having the same issues.

I can say that with confidence I had similar issues, usually around this same time of year.

My video card was failing and it was just enough temperature change to cause the problem. I thought it was Wow because 2 different computers with same setups had the same problems.

I RMA'd the cards back to ASUS and got them back all nice and happy.

1 year later, the cards are starting to do the same thing. Flickers, pop in, tearing, streaking, pulling. It's not just WoW but other games I'm playing. I figure it's time for me to clean up the CPU again and remove all the extra gunk causing the board to heat up. I know the board can suffer higher tolerances, but higher heat causes problems since the idea that the lower the temp the better the performance.

the durn heat

hmm, the heat issue is something that always tends to come up. and ok i'll bite, i just set a small rotating fan blowing into the CPU parts (I'm on a tower, with a removable side door). We'll see what it does.

BUT, I flew to the Barrens and i didn't see any of the video issues i've seen in Outland. i really think it's the new 2.4 patch, but it'll be hard to prove. Blizz's official stance is they can't reproduce it and it's not the patch.

barrens doesn't have as many polys as Outland... when we got to outland was when the card was ready to seize....

i think you're on to something. i've set a fan blowing into the PC, and i haven't shut down the PC yet and cleaned everything out, but it has improved somewhat. it's not completely gone, but it's much better. thanks for the tip!!
