Anyone playing Ikariam?
I just picked this thing up from a stumbleupon suggestion and it is pretty addicting, for me anyway.
I will say up front though that it is a HUGE time sink and I am not familiar with this genre of game. www.ikariam.org The way it works is that you are starting an ancient colony on an island and your goal is to build up your colony and expand onto other islands, building other colonies, researching upgrades for your town, armies, as well as mining the luxury resources on the other islands. You can form alliances or clans with other players as well as raiding and pillaging other towns or colonies. Each island has one of 4 luxury resources (marble, sulphur, crystal/glass, and wine) each of which you assign workers to the local mine to harvest for your upgrades and research. There is also a saw mill on each island that works the same way as the resources do (you need the wood to build) where it gets interesting is in how the resources and wood works. You have to donate some of your harvested wood to the island saw mill in order to build up the saw mills level, building up the level allows you to put more workers there to increase the rate of wood you collect for your colony to use, so it takes the whole island to build it up to a level where you are getting a good hourly rate of wood from it for your own use. The bad part is you might be on an island where just a couple of people are donating and everyone else is just leeching this is where the alliances and raiding comes into play, kindly ask the others to donate and if they don't then send in the troops and pillage the living crap out of their colony. Everything is done in hourly terms, so if you have 50 workers at the mill you are getting 50 units of wood an hour and so on, everytime the mills level increases through donations your amount of workers you can place there increases as well. The same way with the resources listed above, you need certain resources to do certain things such as using your academy to research a new military unit you might need wood and sulphur. Very in depth game and best of all it is free to play. You can pony up real money to earn a "Plus" account and get a couple of transfer options for your goods between your towns, but you really don't need to pay if you don't want the entire game is free and open to all. If anyone plays, let me know your server and island, and if you want more information check out the website or ask here and I will answer what I can (I have only been playing 4 days)
