Saw this earlier today. The official Blizzard movie is due out soon so hopefully we can hear the narration better then. Looks freaking awesome though.

Mmmm maybe I expected more but that doesn't look like it took howevermany years its been since Starcraft to make that.

Looks pretty much the same old same old, with standard RTS gameplay.

I'm not saying it hasn't improved from the original, but it looks like pretty much every current RTS type of game.

i'm pretty sure i'm the minority here with saying: who cares about starcraft?
honestly, gameplay-wise it looks pretty much identical to starcraft1.

i know how to play the game, since when we do lan-parties, my friends basically force me to play the game. i mean, what choice do i have? watch a movie? xD

i'm much more the command and conquer red alert-guy. i'm so happy that red alert 3 is coming, i cant wait for that.

anyway, i hope you guys get a cool new game with sc2.

I can't believe people are still saying this. That's the whole point!

haha, ok.

but anyway, whats the point about starcraft2 then? why is it getting any hype if its the same game?
i know starcraft1 is one of the most played game on the world and its gameplay is burned into the brains of many people, but starcraft2 is starcraft2, not starcraft1. whats the point, honestly?

why not just release an update to starcraft1 for the new units?

i cant believe people are going to buy the SAME game again for 50-60 bucks just because it looks better.
i dont know, maybe we have different views on videogames, but if i buy a new game, i expect a new game inside

Oh I dont know, maybe to continue the story. OR, maybe, just maybe they want to continue their idea of what the Starcraft universe is, with current technology. As for it being the same game, I meant the same gameplay style. People would be furious if they completely changed the way the game plays. If they turned Starcraft into like a C&C clone or a WC3 clone people would be up in arms. You do understand that Starcraft is a pro sport in some countries right? They want to continue the Starcraft feel with a new story, a new shiny look, new graphics engine, new resolutions, new physics engine, new units, new multiplayer modes, better online capabilites, same massive battles, same fast paced action, same macro economics and control. A new game with with same rules. I don't see how that is so hard to understand.

Do you honestly think they would add in new units to a game that is 10 years old and plays in 640x480 resolution? I doubt some of these units would even be possible.

Pro? Yes. Sport? No. Video games are not a sport, regardless of how much one gets paid to play them.

I wasn't aware Starcraft had a story.

eSports is a big thing in many countries no matter what you think. Poker is a sport, so why can't videogames be?

Poker is not a sport either, no matter what ESPN tells you.

Simple rule of thumb: if you can smoke a cigar while doing an activity, that activity is not a sport.

I'm not detracting from video games. I think the idea of professional gaming is a bit silly, but I also think the WWE is silly and plenty enough people like that (also not a sport, but much closer). I'm just saying that sports require exertion. Clicking a mouse is not exertion.

oh I understand what you are saying, and I mostly agree with your definition, but that's not the definition being used anymore I suppose. The sad reality is that these things do qualify as a sport to many people. Oh well.

on topic, zomg zerg!

I liked Starcraft, but for an RTS game I think Age of Empires III:conquerors or CoH are just better games.

I know its a big deal in south korea, but then again so is lineage II.

True. When he was traveling, Babe Ruth used to entertain girls in his hotel rooms. He'd...have his way with the girl, then go out into the living room area of the hotel room and smoke a cigar. When he finished the cigar, he'd go back into the bedroom and repeat the process. His roommate would sleep at night, wake up the next morning, and find a huge pile of cigars in the ash tray.

The moral of this story? You really can't smoke a cigar while engaged in sporting activity, even if you are Babe Ruth. That, and Babe Ruth died of throat cancer (h/t Steven Goldman).

Also, hasn't it been, like, forever since SC came out? I have very clear memories of discussing this awesome new game from Blizzard that was going to come out with my friend while riding the bus in eight grade (flying buildings!). I used to play SC games in my high school's computer lab, until the powers that be finally got wise and put the kibosh on that. Since SC came out, I've worked my first (and, what, tenth?) job, earned a high school and college diploma, spent three years in the working world...I mean holy crap it's been a while.

They better make it worth the wait.
