Half-Life 2 Paged Pool Memory Issues
I've been having trouble getting Half-Life 2: Episode One to run properly. I've visited the Steam support website and they suggested that if the paged pool memory when the game is running is larger than 150 MB that the system is using too much paged pool memory. They suggest ending processes that use paged pool memory, but I'm hesitant to start mucking about with system processes, especially if I'm unsure of which ones are essential and which ones aren't.
From Steam Support website: Quote:

you've got a lot of security apps listed. you should be able to safely disable those while playing HL2.
Also itunes can be disabled as well.

Gee - you've a lot of stuff going there.
Hows about shutting Azureus, Outlook and Firefox (just for a start). Then, I'd suggest getting a few numbers. You can see memory use in ye olde windows Task Manager. Although it doesn't show much initially, it has an option to add more columns (very important that bit). Alternatively - if you like seeing what is going on, the program "ProcessExplorer" from www.sysinternals.com is great. They're owned by M$ now, but it's still a favourite of mine. Hopoe that helps. |

I know I can kill Outlook, my antivirus/firewall, Azureus, and iTunes... not like I am using those while I am zoned in on the screen. My problem still persists.
I have ProcessExplorer- the website I linked recommended it, hence I saw the total paged pool memory usage. Funny it doesn't show individual paged pool memory usage though. I'll be damned, task manager really does have extra columns. When I get back to my laptop at home I will kill some more stuff and get back to you guys. Thanks for the help so far. |
