SNES Repackaged? You decide

I recently saw an add for this item. It absolutely begged to be threaded. This item called the "Game Boy Player" attaches to your game cube and allows you to play Gameboy, Advanced, and SP games on your TV.

After seeing this commercial I scream out NO THAT'S WRONG! If I wanted an SNES I would go buy it for $1.50 and not pay $100 or whatever for it.

Here's what it looks like:

So what's your opinion on all this?

um, how is it like an SNES? I know they made a cartridge for it where you could plug original game boy games in to play on your tv, but thats where the similarity ends. Also, i believe Advance games are actually more detailed then any SNES ever was.

only if all you buy are the remade SNES games, and ignore the changes made.

I think its an interesting idea to combine the gameboy and the gamecube upon one tv, but I am still partial to the portability of my gameboy, and without having the desire to buy a gamecube, would have no use for such a device. Also, the gba has sold tons more systems than the gamecube, so it seems to me like the situation should be reversed, if possible, since the gcn is the weaker system in terms of sells.

the GBA has more units out there then the PS2, GC & XBox combined!

A buddy of mine had this back in the SNES days, it was nice so others could watch Zelda and color was new back then.

The Gameboy Player is a really good idea because being able to play a Gameboy game on the tv is a big advantage. It is sometimes very hard to see the screen on a regular gameboy advance so this would help alot. I really want one, I'd rather get this instead of a regular Gameboy Advance because the truth is, when I'm outside i really don't have much time to pull out a Gameboy and get all sucked into a game unless i'm on a train or in a waiting room, so the portability factor means little to me. it costs 50 dollars or it comes free with a gamecube.

I think its an advantage to those who are interested primarily in the gamecube... this way, with a gba game and the gb player, you spend only $80 instead of $100(sp), and then the next game you buy for the gba you can spend $40 on and play the game w/o a gba or gba sp.Its a good investment, again, if youre primary interest is with the gcn but youre dying to have, say, tactics ogre.

I've thought that the GBA's just a handheld SNES too, seeing as how they're repackaging all their successful (and not so successeful) SNES games for it. Reminds me a bit of the ol' sega nomad. Hopefully the GBA won't suffer the same fate.

I love to take my GBA everywhere but when I'm at home and want something to play I hate staring at the tiny screen. I've been looking forward to this for a long time. Now my 'blind' friends can enjoy the games :P

It's a notch more powerful then the SNES, kinda between the SNES & PS1.

this is just like when they introduced links so you could hook your gameboy into yoru snes and then into your n64... it's tying their games together. shit like pokestadium was a fucking stroke of genious: encourage people to buy two systems and assloads of games in order to "catch them all" and "battle" them... they made massive cash. i see nintendo wanting to do it again. they are fucking geniuses down in nintendo... they know just how to take money out of yrou pocket.... the gameboy will always be the biggest winner, but with each new evolution; colour, advance, and new sp, they've had consumers eating right out of their hands... it's fucking genius. it's like the ps2 having backwards compatibility with ps1 games... it simply makes their console more useable and more flexible. these guys are winners in my book.

I think it is a great idea for people who don't have a GBA to get it, since they probably aren't conserned with portable games. I think it is good for people who already own it anyways, since now you don't need perfect lighting to play the games.

gamecube is awesome...number one reason for the SGBA...everyone who bought the GBA and not the SP can now SEE their games to play them...

besides...a lot of the GBA games are great...metroid fusion, castlevania...even if they're not as pretty as say xbox graphics... nintendo=quality

reasons to own a gamecube:
Metroid Prime
Legend of Zelda:The Wind Waker
Eternal Darkness
Star Fox Adventures
Star Wars Rogue Leader
Pikmin
Super Mario Sunshine

I think that Nintendo is trying to get people of of the Gameboy platform so that they may add a new platform for compatition agianst the new sony handheld that has been rumored to be released later this year or early next.

Alil off-topic, it's kind of sad but this is part of the reason Nintendo isn't doing so good anymore. Hardly any third party publishers want to support their consoles because all people ever buy are the games that are published by Nintendo.

Bestbuy

It's an alright idea. i'm not sure i'd wanna play my GBA games on the big screen. but appearently (according to this weeks NEWPAPER ADS) bestbuy is offering either a Free Gameboy player or a Gamecube game (fusion, windwalker, M Party 4, or SF Adventures). I don't have my gamecube yet (i need to get one for Twin Snakes) so this is a toughy. either buy a brand new game or just play my old GBA games on a bigger platform. Desicions!

Don't gameboy games look like trash on big-screen? They are meant to be played on the small portable screen, not on some huge display. It gets pixelated and ugly. Of course, if pixelated games is your cup of tea, this is the way to go.

Seems like I read that all new Gamecubes that are sold will have this included in the box. Kinda wish I had held of a little while.

Of course my GBA SP still owns it!

Actually, that's the reason nintendo put 2 trigger buttons on the GBA. (Only A & B) They did this so that developers would be forced into making new games for the system, instead of just porting the old SNES ones over. Personally, I don't think it was a good idea, because I would much rather have the extra couple buttons.... and would even enjoy some SNES ports like Chrono Trigger.

All I know is that my little cousin is a freak for pokemon and instead of killing his eyes he is going to get this to play on the big screen. Also it does not kill the batteries, yes you could have an adapter but that just defeats the purpose.

All I can say is that it is a great idea. I always wondered why they never did this for N64 making one that could play gameboy color games, the original could only play the noncolor games if I remember right.
