TBH, the 2 dollar hike in the monthly fee is annoying...but nothing major in my justification of whether to buy the game or not. I would gladly pay 14 dollars a month if the game came even CLOSE to delivering the immersive Star Wars environment that we were led to believe existed.

As it stands now, I get more of that feeling from playing Rebellion.

I was very dissapointed with the beta test. I found that the game was just not something I'd put time/energy into. I play games to have fun, not to take on a 2nd job.

I might give it a go in about 6-7 months after it's a bit more stable, bit more contect and a bit more fun. Assuming that last one actually happens.

My roommate was in the beta as well.

He agrees with what the others have said.

I watched him play a lot, and my most common question was, "So do you do anything in this game?" I don't think I could possibly imagine a more boring game.

Well I for one will wait about 6 mos to a year before i pick this title up.. I didnt try EQ till it was over a year old and even then it was about what 2 years before i bought it with no expansions.. Just didnt have the time to play it for the money I would be shelling out for it per month.

Every game no matter if its a 1st person shooter, rpg, MMORPG, or tactical.. they all have bugs.. why you always see patches come out..

I wont even get into the lol game Daggerfall. (anyone remember that bugged out game?)

As more money comes in for swg they might begin to patch things out.. heck from what I saw on their forums.. it was nasty.. even to the point of cdkeys already reg.. ouch..

also.. from what ive seen on fan sites.. the day it went live the game was already hacked... peps had access to all skills .. sigh.. they got a long way to go..

although I will say they could pull it off if they are on the ball. The perma-death for a jedi.. I agree.. what? how many jedi's were running around during the empire era? what .. lets see offically in the movies ..

obi, yoda, quazi-luke, sleeper-leia, emperor(sith but still a jedi) and darthvader(sith kickin jedi)

the point is during this era.. the empire was out to snuff any and every jedi they found.. and not just jedi's.. those that were force sensitive.

90% of all peps that think of SW, they think Darth Vader, space battles and JEDI.. most the peps ive seen are/were psyiced about being a jedi.. there should be some danger of being one.. seeing how dangerous/deadly it was to be one in the movies..

I was in beta 3. I had never played a MMOG before. To me the learning curve was pretty steep. A lot to learn and then nothing gained by it. By the time my marksman was fairly proficient they wiped all characters. <sigh>

I never even got to run around on all of the planets. But that is exactly what you'd have to do is run. Lots of time spent running and trying to play in a large enough group to get larger sums of XP was only so-so. Half the time you'd be moving in a large group to a target the servers would crash and by the time you got back into the game the group was gone and you're stuck out in the middle of nowhere.

I'd be tempted to try the game out down the road but not right now, not for the money they are asking for.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Hey Forks, I love the game and I was in beta. I played eq and I like this game more. Just because you didn't like it doesn't mean that all of the people who liked it are plants. The professions are not meaningless. The game allows you to become whatever you want even if you change your mind after you made your initial selection. Therefore, one of the reasons you hate the game is because you hate to have options in your life? Well have fun not playing SWG. I for one will be enjoying my time in the game.

What do you like about it?

The people who don't like it, give reasons, but I have yet to hear someone who likes it give a reason.

So ya mind telling me?

I'll expand a little more on my thoughts. The game truly has some serious potential. On Tattooine you have the factions of Rebel or Imperial but you also have factions to think about like Jawa and Sandpeople and townspeople and then of course Jabba vs Lady Valerian.

Since I started playing the game as a Marksman it was hell of a lotta fun to go around wasting Jabba's arch enemies knowing that I was gaining faction points to let me go see the main slug himself. (but then they wiped my character and I never got to see him but I degress)

If you choose to play as an Imperial and you make it higher into the ranks you can get Stormtroopers as your "pets" and they will follow you around and do what you tell them to do. That is freakin' awesome. Plus as you gain faction points with the Imp's you can get Stormtrooper armor. That right there is bad ass in my book.

The only problem that I truly had with the beta was how little information was available unless you wanted to spend all of your time reading through hundreds if not thousands of posts to get the information your looking for (the search engine didn't work half the time I tried looking for anything specific).

There is a lot of good stuff going on with SWG but the price is what is keeping me away from it right now. Monthly fee after 50.00 to buy the game just doesn't sit right with me.

another 2 cents worth

Well, I'm having tons of fun in the game. I was in beta as well, and yes there are tons of bugs still. The downtime isn't there anymore, and it's fun to advance through the skills. I've never played any MMORPG before, except PSO for Dreamcast (not really MMO).

I've checked the stores and every where that I went that carried was sold out. That's a good sign for the future of the game.

Disclaimer, I haven't played Galaxies yet, but likely will soon but I have a fair bit of experience with software development and alpha/beta testing...

Some of the comments have bugged me, feel I should say something. Several people have mentioned that the beta was very buggy and had to download tons of patches. That's what a beta is, there is no way to seriously test a complex bit of software without actually using the thing. And in order to find some/most of the serious bugs, you have to use the software a lot. Hence the pseudo-open beta tests of games like Galaxies.

Most companies have to hire people to do thier beta testing for them. But, when there is a lot of hype for a new game, some recent game development houses have harnessed (tricked/enslaved) the pre-fans to use for these betas. This is far cheaper and due to the larger numbers of people, more serious bugs get flagged for repair. Basically the point is, beta tests are not fun. The game in question is not finished, it has bugs, that's why you are testing.

Anyhow, if the version of the game that is currently sitting on store shelves is ass, tell everyone not to spend money on it. I bought Daggerfall, never again will I pay money for a buggy game. But the beta is not the version on the shelves. Probably not even all that close, we're talking 2-3 weeks of crunch time bug fixing by several talented programmers.

Yeah, that was a bit off topic, but still, I feel better, all that 'don't judge a book by it's cover/1st draft/10th draft' crap.
