If I'm using a sub machine gun or light machine gun, 3/4ths of my kills will be spray and pray, its what they are best at. If you are going to use sights, then use the assault rifles.

I'm just waiting for my first kick due to 'hacking'.

Spray and pray is in fact a skill in these games. I'm very good at it, and some people think too good. Now that I'm really getting the hang of it I'm starting to be accused of hacking.

Two recent 'OMFG HAX!' moments were on wetworks and one of the city maps. On wetworks I was jumping down from the middle railing, in whats normally a suicide move with several of the enemy team in view but a good distance away. I let the p90 go as I fell and nailed two of them with head shots. Luck yes, but luck I put myself into position for.

The other was with the mini uzi, on HQ game. The enemy team was coming up to the HQ and I was in an alley, I pop out and in one burst kill 6 of them. They weren't bunched up but they were in something of a line, I figured I'd get two, the other 4 were bonus.

I don't have a problem with the firing from the hip being lame feeling since I think they are too restrictive of how you use the sights. Its all or nothing and you move too slow with the sights up. I know talking realism in a game like this is a bit much but I can raise a gun to sight level much faster than in game.

The reticule goes about 1/3 the size of the screen when the M60 when you fire it, even with the Grip and Steady Aim. You have to know where your bullets are going with no crosshair. I've learned where the bullets go with the M60 so I don't think hip firing is noobish.

I agree about the sights -- if you're gonna primarily use the sights then the assault rifle is what should be used, not the LMGs.

Perhaps spray and pray isn't the right term, I pretty much know where the shots are going.

Try more 'controlled automatic fire from the hip'.

Still the sights are an issue.

The reason spraying works so well with the LMGs is that a) while a lot of bullets miss there's still a lot that don't, and b) they can keep on the trigger a very long time.

I had my best game last night: 45-5 on Backlot. I fucking dominated, 2nd place on my team had 17 kills and around 13 deaths. My 2nd best game I went 44-11 on Wet Work.

I've settled on M-16 with Silencer (rather than Red Dot), Stopping Power and Penetration. It's amazing how many don't see you without the radar blip, and the iron sights on the M-16 really aren't bad once you get used to them. I absolutely rock on Downpour and Crossfire. Crossfire is also easily done with the auto-shotty --every encounter is close combat.. bang bang, you're dead.

Btw - I think Showdown is an absolutely terrible map. I hate it unless it's Team Deathmatch and the enemy team doesn't watch their 6 - it's really easy to sneak up on people in that map. On Domination, whoever controls the center wins the game.

I agree about Showdown, it's a pain in the ass. Though it seems if you and the rest of your team can control the upper level for majority of the game you're golden.

My M16 setup is:
M16 w/ Red Dot
Claymores
Flash or Stun Grenade (don't remember)
Stopping Power
Martyrdom

Been thinking about changing Martyrdom for Deep Impact for the fuckers I nearly kill but they get behind a surface I can't shoot through.

That's exactly why I got Deep Impact instead of Martrydom. That, and I don't die enough to get many kills with Martyrdom grenades.

Neither do I, and Martyrdom seems to only kill people when I end up dying even though I shouldn't have. Ah getting knifed from what seemed like 3 feet away from me and then watching said knifer die to my Martyrdom is satisfying though. I think I'll switch to Deep Impact tonight, my M16 setup is the only setup I use with Martyrdom.

My current set ups.

For normal games.
P90, red dot.
3 special grenades
stopping power
steady aim.

For hard core (what I play 90% of the time unless no server is available).
P90 silencer
3 special grenades
UAV jammer
steady am.

G3 silencer or red dot.
Claymores
UAV jammer
steady aim, though I may switch to deep impact.

I'm starting to love the G3 on hardcore games on 'longer range' maps. Its one shot one kill. With the silencer is just pop dead. Since its more of a camping gun the claymores are great (lame as they can feel).

On smaller maps or maps with a lot of cover, I'm still a p90 whore. I've tried about everything and the p90 fits the short range stuff great and can be used somewhat effectively long range, something the other SMG's just are not good at.

3 stuns or flash bangs is just fun for room clearing.

For hard core, you MUST have the UAV jammer on! Every time I hear "enemy UAV online" I laugh to myself cause they still can't see me. M16 is my gun on every board except when playing hard core. Hard core I have to go with P90 for just the high cycle rate of the gun. BTW I hate the LAST F*%(#@G STAND! Nothing worse than getting the drop on somebody and plugging them with 3 solid shots to the chest only to have them drop and pistol kill you before you can put another shot into them. IMO

Be quicker with the last shot, and expect everyone to try shoot you back My only peeve is when they keep their aim and ping you with a pistol from across the map.

Just keep shooting.

I don't stop until I see +10 (or +5, depending on map type). For all I know, they went prone or Last Stand. And if you happen to empty my primary the moment they LS, just switch to pistol and dance. If you've used LS you'll notice that your horizontal movement is terribly limited. If you move back and forth while emptying YOUR pistol, they shouldn't be able to get you with theirs.

I've found that the AK47 with the Grenade Launcher on maps where it's mostly medium range fire fights is a beast. I also switched my M16 with Martyrdom to Deep Impact and I like it a lot better.

I'm a firm believer that anyone that uses Juggernaut with Martyrdom or Last Stand as their other perk is terrible at this game. I hate Juggernaut, don't really mind the other 2 as much though.

Last stand doesn't bug me at all. Sure I die now and then but its completely avoidable.

Juggernaught I never even thought about. I did see some complaining about it and I think its more of an issue on normal games. On hardcore games its effects are not very noticeable except with a few guns that are on the borderline of one shot kills like the G3. Because of this is also used a lot less.

Martyr is just lame. As a non-camper I couldn't tell you how many times I've died as a direct and indirect result. You kill someone in cover, you want to run to that cover, instead you either run to a magic grenade that pops out of their ass or you get shot by someone else.

My ideal servers are hardcore with FF on. FF makes martyrdom go away pretty quick.

Still going back and forth between Red Dot and Grip on the M60.

I tried using the other weapons like the M16 and P90 but I just love the M60's power.

I think it depends on which map I'm playing as to whether I like the Red Dot or Grip.

I also really like how balanced the game is. Grip = no perk 1. Grenade launcher = no perk 1. Go for red dot, no grenade launcher. For every perk or item attachment you give up something to gain something so it's all very personalized. My favorite multiplayer map is still Overgrown.

Hardcore servers are pretty fun too. I find it odd that I still own face on hardcore servers even though the M60 is much less accurate than any of the other hardcore-usual weapons. I think playstyle, anticipation, and being able to react immediately to any screwy situations is a huge factor in COD4.

Its not quite one shot one kill and Jug DOES help a bit in hardcore but not dramatically. I can tell its on when my G3 doesn't oneshot a guy.

I keep trying different set ups, and I just can't help it, I'm a p90 whore. Its the perfect weapon for me and what I'm good at.

Either red dot and stopping power, or silencer and UAV jammer.

I actually keep a overkill set up with a P90 and an M16 for those maps where you know you will need to do a bit of camping.

still getting used to the controls.
haven't gotten the "flow" of the game yet.
keep getting killed by the damn grenades.
can't seem to find good cover.

happens with most FPS games. took about 4-5 hours with GoW before i got comfortable with it.

edit 5 hours later:
well....got the controls down and a feel for the flow of the game.
this game rocks.

Hmm. Never tried the P90 much. There was a guy on the server I was playing on named Death and his kill to death ratio was hovering around 4. I killed him a few times and finally picked up his silenced P90. Killed 7 people without dying having never used it before. Good god. I think he had double tap on it also. It was embarrassing. May have to switch to it to keep up with the others that use it. It's ridiculous.

When I first got the game and played normal servers I HATED the p90 and couldn't wait to get one. When I picked them up I always seemed to own with them. Then I got it, and yea I owned but I've discovered I can do the same with all the sub machine guns.

The p90's biggest selling point is that is CAN hit stuff long range, something the other subs are not that great at (though the MP5 isn't bad). The larger clip size is nice too for close quarter fighting multiple foes.

I still whore with it the most, but it really depends on the map.

On hardcore games, and games with fewer people, you will see a bigger range in weapons.

From a K/D perspective I can do better with a G3 than a P90. G3 is more of a strategic weapon but I'm good enough close with it too, and its dead on long range.

My best game though was a team death match with 115 kills or so with an MP5, but I think I was playing with the short bus crew that game
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok posting the first post inspired me to try an MP5 again seriously.

So hardcore game (if you aren't playing hardcore you are missing out)

MP5 red dot
Bomb Squad (Just for kicks)
UAV jammer
steady aim.

First game I join is domination Back Lot. My team is getting creamed and camped at C. I start out just trying a long range shot (killed no problem) and then went 1-6 or so as my team was just getting wiped out.

Once I get the flow of things I break out, we battle for B and A.

Long story short I finish 20-10, #2 on my side (this is after starting later). MP5 seemed to do better than the P90 at short range and about the same at long.

Second game, Bloc.

I'm not a big fan of Bloc. I kept trying for B and dying. I had a G3 set up with smoke and use that and team takes B finally. I'm like 1-8 by now and get kills with the G3 a bit. Then I switch to the MP5 and now that I'm hunting instead of charging I do excellent and end up #2 again (I was cover a lot for point captures).

Over all I think I'm going to swap out the p90 in a slot or two for the MP5.

I agree with Ustwo -- hardcore servers seem funner than regular servers. I like them more because they're much more lenient on which gun you use. I see people using the SMGs all the time (normally I never see people using them except the P90).

Recently while playing I was wondering why I kept sucking with the M60. It was all over the place and I couldn't figure out which perk combination yielded the best K : D ratio for me. I was about to start using the P90 or M16 because I kept getting owned so bad.

Then I remembered that I had formatted recently and reinstalled. What do you know, I hadn't installed ANY of the COD4 patches. Reinstalled up to 1.5 and you guessed it: M60 accuracy much, much better. They never went out and officially said that the patches fixed the accuracy but man what a difference. Back to the LMGs for me!!

I've also started to go for the gold M60. All the way done with the M60 challenges and just have the phase 3 headshot challenges to finish for the RPD and M249.

There's nothing quite like sniping someone from halfway across the map with the M60 on hardcore mode. It's campers delight on a lot of maps and it's so satisfying to shoot a single round at someone for the instagib M60 with stopping power.
