Call of Duty 4

The next (and best imho) Call of Duty drops Tuesday the 6th. Did anybody beta this (I did), are you buying it, and which system? Personally, I thought it was one of the best shooters out. I was an loyal SOCOM player since the first one was released. I have been turned! Talk to me, tell me what you have seen and what you think.

I played the demo, and it was great. The Call of Duty games always catch me off guard for how they throw you into just the absolutely worst shitfest of a scenario in the history of FPS. Rockets and bullets flying by you, 10 machine gun turrets firing at you, explosions constantly going off, etc.

Very nice graphics engine as well!

I didn't play the beta, but I've watched a lot of videos, interviews, etc. It looks very promising. For those who have played, how much customization is there? I know you can get various abilities and unlock new equipment, but is there enough of this to make your soldier feel unique?

I have it. The game is as expected...SWEEEEEET!! If you are considering picking the game up, do so NOW (if you can find it). The online play is great, the levels are wonderful, and the little bit of single player I have actually played was also good. I was a huge fan of the whole SOCOM series and I am afraid that they have missed the boat by not releasing anything for the next gen consuls! They keep putting recycled crap out for the PSP and the PS2, but nothing new on the Xbox360 or PS3. Last I heard, they were going to be in the development phase for a while still to come. Anyways, post your XBOX live ID's to get some people together. Mine is CORDACHINE. Good hunting!

it's not a port from the 360 to the pc. It's supposedly amazing on the PC.

The PC version plays a lot like the first 2 so if you liked those you'll be happy. There are a few console concessions made like no save anywhere (checkpoints only) and the FOV is set to 60 degrees by default but it's easy enough to kick it up to 80 - 90 degrees depending on your preference by adding seta cg_fov "90" to C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\players\profiles\Profile Name\config.cfg .

Ive only played the PC version. My thoughts after playing 4-5 levels: superb graphics, above average controls, meh gameplay. Its pretty consoled-out. You can only carry 2 weapons at anytime, not including grenades/flashbangs/c4. So if an enemy drops (or you find) a cool weapon, you have to swap one of your 2 guns. Its very, very linear...follow your squad here, follow them there...clear out the area...follow them to the next area, rinse-repeat. No time to take in the surroundings and amazing detail or consider alternate attacks or look for stuff because you're too busy trying to stay with your squad as they run into firefights. One of the good points is that it runs very smoothly on my mid-low end computer.

This game is spanktacular single-player and multi-player. If ya want a FPS for console or comp pick this up quick. I only wish i had an HDTV, the graphics are badass.

The variety of single-player levels is really nice and they are all really well done. I really enjoyed the sniper level where you get to sneak around. I usually never like sniper levels but that was fun sitting in the high weeds as that line of troops walked by a foot away. I really liked the part where Spoiler: you stumble out of the downed chopper after the nuke goes off

The dogs are a pain in the ass, but still fun.

HDTV a must to fully enjoy the game. I am at the same sniper level you are referring to and seem to get caught every time. So I went back to Online until I calm down a little. I have to agree with the spoiler and i have yet to kill a dog while on the ground... Well, I hope to find a couple XBOX360 gamers on the board, but I guess this is a computer first kinda environment. Anyways, good hunting.

Finished the game last night...it got a lot better than the first few levels. I played on Veteran setting (one less than max difficulty) and some levels were a hell of a challenge in a good way. Gameplay, while squad-based, was extremely intense throughout the game. Firefights were awesome. I'll mention bumper cars and farmhouses as 2 levels of particularly outstanding gaming intensity. I also agree with Dragonlich, that was a fun and original level. I hope that kind of thing shows up in future games. The shotgun was one of the best shotguns ever in a fps. The graphics really are unbelievable, photo-realistic...its like being in a movie. I was disappointed when it came to an end. 8/10.

I picked it up for the 360 while on leave, mostly to play on Live! and rank up. The online multiplayer is awesome. Doubly so since they left the achievements for single-player, and use the challenges and rank system to give you a feel of progression in MP. That's really doubling the feeling of doing something in a game, IMHO.

I'm playing it on PC single player and multiplayer competitive matches. The single player absolutely has the best fps missions I've ever played. The only thing that sucks about single player is you are left wanting more levels or a mission pack to come out

Still getting the hang of multiplayer matches. It's very similar to counter-strike because scrims are played as search and destroy 4v4 or 5v5. Also, the airstrikes/helicopters/rpgs/grenade launchers are gone, and there's many perks that aren't available. The hardest thing about multiplayer is picking the models out of the very detailed enviornment imo.

The one thing I'm really hating about multiplayer matches atm is all the prenading that goes on. A couple well placed grenades near cars can own half your team in under 5 seconds of the round start.

Huh? There are still airstrikes, helicopters and RPGs in multiplayer. You can call in an airstrike after 5 consecutive kills without dying, and a helicopter after 7. RPGs are something you choose from the Perk 1 slot I believe. Grenade Launchers in the form of the M203 attachment for the M16 and M4 rifles are available but disable your Perk 1 slot. Maybe I misunderstood what you were saying?

As for picking out the models against detailed environments, it's tough... but it's AWESOME. That's pretty much what it's like in combat. Camouflage is a bitch!

Ya, I know in regular multiplayer they are there. But in competative gaming leagues like CEVO they change the ruleset to make the game less 'random'.

I like that aspect as well. The ghillie suits work damn well, especially in grass. I had no idea this sniper was prone in the grass until after he killed me and I saw the killcam.

It sounds like I'm in the minority, but I was disappointed in the MP. The SP is amazing, and as stated before, intense, and the MP looks great, but it is just too much of a CS clone, minus the buying of items. I was really looking for more of a Battlefield2 experience with superior graphics. I guess all in all not bad, but just not what I wanted or expected.

Nik, I think you MIGHT actually be in the minority Most people dislike portions of the SP game, such as not being bale to fire from behind cover like the AI can. MP is a game like that is generally going to be a bit like CS, but the pace is faster or slower based on the map and teams and strategy is far more important than in CS since the combat system is part twitch-skill and part how much you've played, ranked up and earned extra items and options. You have to approach every game with far more care, even if you are a very good player. In CS, it was just slightly more skill based than Quake 3... which is to say it's more shoot, shoot and more shoot, and less cover, concealment and strategy.

I mainly use the G3 with red dot sight and Stopping Power/Martyrdom as my perks with claymores. I use the shotgun for the more confined maps like Vacant. I'm probably going to switch my sight to the ACOG scope and see how I do with it on the G3.

Got it for PS3 a few days ago. It looks great, specially in HD. I found it a bit overwhelming, never having played any Call Of Duty before I didnt know which way to turn when it all kicked off, bullets flying everywhere etc. I thought Resistance threw you in at the deep end till I played this. Its gotta be one of the most hectic FPS's out there.
