It's the people that use Jugg + Martyrdom/Last Stand as their perks that really piss me off. I don't think Jugg really has ANY effect in Hardcore, but I don't play it. From what I've heard though Hardcore is 1 shot 1 kill.

Still going back and forth between Red Dot and Grip on the M60.

I tried using the other weapons like the M16 and P90 but I just love the M60's power.

I think it depends on which map I'm playing as to whether I like the Red Dot or Grip.

I also really like how balanced the game is. Grip = no perk 1. Grenade launcher = no perk 1. Go for red dot, no grenade launcher. For every perk or item attachment you give up something to gain something so it's all very personalized. My favorite multiplayer map is still Overgrown. :thumbsup:

Hardcore servers are pretty fun too. I find it odd that I still own face on hardcore servers even though the M60 is much less accurate than any of the other hardcore-usual weapons. I think playstyle, anticipation, and being able to react immediately to any screwy situations is a huge factor in COD4.

Its not quite one shot one kill and Jug DOES help a bit in hardcore but not dramatically. I can tell its on when my G3 doesn't oneshot a guy.

I keep trying different set ups, and I just can't help it, I'm a p90 whore. Its the perfect weapon for me and what I'm good at.

Either red dot and stopping power, or silencer and UAV jammer.

I actually keep a overkill set up with a P90 and an M16 for those maps where you know you will need to do a bit of camping.

the game will tell you to click RB if its close enough. otherwise run.

Yep, Fotz has it right. If the screen says "Press XXX to throw back" then it's close enough to you. If it doesn't say that, then run like hell.

Hmm. Never tried the P90 much. There was a guy on the server I was playing on named Death and his kill to death ratio was hovering around 4. I killed him a few times and finally picked up his silenced P90. Killed 7 people without dying having never used it before. Good god. I think he had double tap on it also. It was embarrassing. May have to switch to it to keep up with the others that use it. It's ridiculous.

Yeah the P90 is pretty insane.

Tried it for the first time tonight, someone dropped it and I picked it up. Not bad, but I still like my M4/red dot. I'm still earning points for Master Gunney, so I can get the Dragunev sniper rifle. But I love the martyrdom perk, so when some guy nails me, I can get the last laugh!

When I first got the game and played normal servers I HATED the p90 and couldn't wait to get one. When I picked them up I always seemed to own with them. Then I got it, and yea I owned but I've discovered I can do the same with all the sub machine guns.

The p90's biggest selling point is that is CAN hit stuff long range, something the other subs are not that great at (though the MP5 isn't bad). The larger clip size is nice too for close quarter fighting multiple foes.

I still whore with it the most, but it really depends on the map.

On hardcore games, and games with fewer people, you will see a bigger range in weapons.

From a K/D perspective I can do better with a G3 than a P90. G3 is more of a strategic weapon but I'm good enough close with it too, and its dead on long range.

My best game though was a team death match with 115 kills or so with an MP5, but I think I was playing with the short bus crew that game :)

Ok posting the first post inspired me to try an MP5 again seriously.

So hardcore game (if you aren't playing hardcore you are missing out)

MP5 red dot
Bomb Squad (Just for kicks)
UAV jammer
steady aim.

First game I join is domination Back Lot. My team is getting creamed and camped at C. I start out just trying a long range shot (killed no problem) and then went 1-6 or so as my team was just getting wiped out.

Once I get the flow of things I break out, we battle for B and A.

Long story short I finish 20-10, #2 on my side (this is after starting later). MP5 seemed to do better than the P90 at short range and about the same at long.

Second game, Bloc.

I'm not a big fan of Bloc. I kept trying for B and dying. I had a G3 set up with smoke and use that and team takes B finally. I'm like 1-8 by now and get kills with the G3 a bit. Then I switch to the MP5 and now that I'm hunting instead of charging I do excellent and end up #2 again (I was cover a lot for point captures).

Over all I think I'm going to swap out the p90 in a slot or two for the MP5.

The only gun I hate is the Skorpion. I played it enough to get the 1000, but man do I hate it. If I'm close enough to knife them, it's good. Anything beyond that, and fuck man it's like shooting spitballs.

Anybody know what the deal with patch 1.4 is? I downloaded it, installed it and now CoD won't pick up any servers.

I agree with Ustwo -- hardcore servers seem funner than regular servers. I like them more because they're much more lenient on which gun you use. I see people using the SMGs all the time (normally I never see people using them except the P90).

Recently while playing I was wondering why I kept sucking with the M60. It was all over the place and I couldn't figure out which perk combination yielded the best K : D ratio for me. I was about to start using the P90 or M16 because I kept getting owned so bad.

Then I remembered that I had formatted recently and reinstalled. What do you know, I hadn't installed ANY of the COD4 patches. Reinstalled up to 1.5 and you guessed it: M60 accuracy much, much better. They never went out and officially said that the patches fixed the accuracy but man what a difference. Back to the LMGs for me!!

I've also started to go for the gold M60. All the way done with the M60 challenges and just have the phase 3 headshot challenges to finish for the RPD and M249.

There's nothing quite like sniping someone from halfway across the map with the M60 on hardcore mode. It's campers delight on a lot of maps and it's so satisfying to shoot a single round at someone for the instagib M60 with stopping power. :thumbsup:

Slight of hand + noob tube = really good as the grenade launcher benefits from the faster reload, plus I'd say a good % of my deaths come from the reload times on the main gun.

I'm trying to work this out for my usual HQ and Domination servers where the skill level is higher.

Normally I putz around with a G3 or Saw for a bit, and then go back to p90 whoring where I can pretty much dominate all but the best players.

What's your handle, in case I draw a bead on your ass someday?

It's literally 1-shot kills with the LMGs on hardcore, but I'm not sure if stopping power is making it like that or if they're 1-shot kills anyway.

Doubletap on an LMG on hardcore is pretty much useless as well. If you need doubletap on hardcore with an LMG then you're using the LMGs the wrong way. :)

I guess it's down to whether or not the LMGs are instagib mode without stopping power on hardcore. Anyone know?

It really depends on the server.

I've found double tap to be pretty useless.

I use either stopping power or UAV jammer, with UAV jammer about 80% of the time. If I'm playing a game thats more strategic I use UAV, but if its a map like vacant or I'm on a bad team and I'm going to need to do all the killing I go stopping power.

Stopping power with the SAW is nice since its the lowest damage LMG but even without it you can snipe with it with a single burst to kill in what is effectively one shot.

I'm going to give the slight of hand a few days to see how that works out in the K/D ratio on higher skilled servers. I was practicing on free for all ones this weekend and pretty much dominating without camping but skill levels are so low on free for all servers that its hard to judge.

I also feel bad using the grenade launcher but I see no reason to use an AK without it. Might as well use a P90 or LMG instead.

Yeah I've really been thinking about UAV Jammer. On hardcore mode, I constantly see people knowing exactly where to shoot when they turn the corner.

BTW I've read at various places and actually seen in-game that the UAV Jammer prevents you from showing up on the radar if you fire, but you still show up if a UAV is called in. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Are you quite literally radar invisible with the UAV Jammer perk?

No it works, you will figure it out when the UAV is clear and then someone is in your face :) More and more are using UAV jammers on my HC servers lately, I think I've been training them.

The way it works is UAV jammer stops you from showing up normally, but you DO show up if you fire. UAV + Sliencer = you never show up and thats why I normally use a p90 with a silencer.

As a side note, don't bother using a silencer on HC unless you go uav jammer too being radar is only up with the UAV is up it gives you no benefit to be silenced without uav jamming as well.

^^ good point. Unless you have UAV Jam, Red Dot is way better than Silencer on Hardcore.

I haven't played much HC because I hate camping, and HC tends to promote it. I do use UAV jammer if I'm a sniper, though.. especially on bigger maps like that Oil Refinery one.. lay out in the grass and no one will ever see you.

One thing they did well in COD4 is making it that their are few sniper maps and even those normally have ways to move in cover.

At first playing HC you feel like every time you move you get nailed by a camper, but playing games like domination, sabotage and HQ people can't really camp one spot the whole time.

Really camping isn't much of an issue for me now, just know the camp spots. I do carry smoke on most of my builds as its invaluable for capping points and running to new cover.

Also depending on what I'm up against I carry a 3 flash bang p90 set up. Do it SWAT team style where if you think there might be a camper in a room, flash bang it first.

Ok so I dropped the stopping power and put on UAV jammer last night. Holy cow did I sneak up on a lot of people. I had a few occasions where I walked into a room of 3-6 people and mowed all of them down. On one map (the long map, it's basically a long street with a bunch of sniping areas with the sides of the streets being the combat areas) I walked into a room of 3 snipers. I crouched and took aim on the first one. Boom headshot. Aimed at the second one 3 feet away. Boom headshot. Third, headshot. That jammer is freaking hilarious.

Buuut. I've been using the RDP to unlock the golden M60 and I'm starting to miss stopping power already. I took aim at one guy in a window last night, popped a shot into his chest and he RAN OFF after a direct hit from an LMG on a hardcore server. Ugh. I can't wait until I get the golden M60 because the comparatively weak RDP and M249 are annoying.

Got level 55 the other night after a 5:1 kill to death ratio on Countdown. Sometimes I hate that map but sometimes I get in the groove and waste everybody. I've been working with the LMGs to get all of the achievements done. I'm currently 10 headshots away with the SAW to getting the gold-plated M60. Can't wait!!!!!!!

I'm using a G36c with red dot sight and a DEagle.
Perks are stopping power 3 frags and Last Stand.

But I also use a silenced MP5 with a deagle with UAV jammer, martyredom, and 3 frags.

Been playing Team Hardcore a lot recently. I think I like it a lot more than TDM because it gives you the opportunity to try different perks. Good call on Sleight of Hand for the AK/Nade Launcher Ustwo, it's a fucking beast. The one thing I dislike about Hardcore though is there tends to be a lot of camping. Is it the same for PC? I'm on 360.

Yea but its not that big of a problem, nice thing about campers are you know where they are the second time if they get ya.

Playing HQ games is the best anti-camping game because you have to keep moving or you lose.

i use a silenced p90 because sometimes i like to play free for all also, if not team deathmatch.
my usual setup for this is bandolier, slight of hand, and martydom.
i use slight of hand for all my guns now. i can't stand the slow reloading.
unless i need uav jammer for some matches, its always SoH.

i'm the run and gun type of player. if i happen to get killed, hey i hope my grenade takes out as many more as possible.

Yay! Finally scored the overkill perk, now I carry my sniper rifle and my M4! I'm counting down the kills till I can get my hands on the Barrett .50!

What I love about this game is how many subtly different ways there are to play.

My current love is a silenced weapon, uav jammer, and dead silence.

On overpopulated servers with constant noise dead silence is a waste, but on lower populated servers its great.

First you can't be heard, but thats not the great part.

The great part is now you can easily hear THEM since your own running doesn't interfere.

For the ninja feel I'll use a mini-uzi but I still get more kills out of the p90.

My brother got me to try out the Mini-Uzi. I was tired of sucking with my golden M60 versus campers so I decided to give it a whirl. Holy crap. I put double tap and a silencer on it with UAV jammer and it's basically silent death. We're talking 10:1 kill to death ratios on some servers. 60, 70, 80 kills with 20 deaths frequently, even on sniper maps. I played yesterday on Backlot domination and got to C with 7 enemies capturing the flag. I wasn't on UAV and I crouched the whole way so they never suspected me. I zoomed in on C and spewed the whole magazine at them and killed 5 in 2 seconds. It's just an awesome weapon on hardcore servers, mainly due to the mobility associated with it.

My current owning set up on all but over crowded maps is.

P90 + silencer
UAV jammer
dead silence.

I love it because you can hear every noise they make and they can't hear me.

I tried the mini uzi and the issue I have with it is longer ranges, up close its great and I've seen some very good players dominate with it.

I am playing exclusively with the Mini Uzi with the Silencer, Stopping Power, Steady Aim, and the RPG x 2

It's working out quite well - I'm generally no good at long distance anyway, so I don't mind the horrible accuracy at far way

I have dominated a couple of matches with it - see below (I'm Punchinelli): I didn't even get to call in an airstrike once the entire match, so all of those kills are Mini Uzi kills:

Ak-47 with stopping power, deep impact and iron sites for me. The only other gun i might use is the mp5 with red dot or silencer.

BTW, if you use a m14 with the ACOG you can sprint like 8 extra steps, not that you'll be able to hit shit when you get to them :thumbsup:

Another thing I like to do with semi auto guns like the m14/g3/deagle/and the semi-auto snipers is use the scroll wheel to shoot. Bind mwheelup +attack;bind mwheeldown +attack. Just flick the wheel back and forth for super fast shots. Some people think you're hacking haha

Oh thats genius, I just did that with a G3 and its almost full auto. Gotta puts around with that tonight.

Ya, g3 is probably best for that tactic. It has insane range, power, low recoil, and can compete with the mp5's and m4's at close range if you scroll.

After playing a game with the g3, I found it most useful using the sites, it was ok up close but its always ok for me. Sites wise there was almost no recoil and you just just saturate the area.

The deagle and m14 though are insane with it close up. I didn't get much chance to try the m14, but from what I did I was impressed (and I normally hate that gun).

I don't think it will get me more kills than my p90 whoring but its a fun toy.

Ok you are right the G3 is the best for it, and its fun to play with, but from a kill perspective I still do much better with a regular full auto.

Been using the P90 since I finally got it again with Bandolier/UAV Jammer/Steady Aim on the smaller maps in Hardcore TDM. I killed someone across the crash site on the map "Crash" from the blue walled building and the dude was directly across from me on the roof of that store or whatever it is.

I had forgotten how good the P90 can be at long range, hah.

Lately my favorite is FFA maps using only the knife or rockets/knife.

On a regular server I WILL win only using a knife, you can't kill me fast enough.

On a HC server, I'll use the rockets too, its a lot harder to get a knife kill.

I have gotten a few knife only helicopters, that should be an achievement award :)

Playing regular servers after HC is great. It's like time is slowed down and you have forever to kill people. You can actually run matrix style towards people and knife them in the face while they're shooting at you if they try to iron sight you. :)

Yea pretty much my experience too.

I tried to tell some friends/acquaintances who play that I'll dominate them a LOT less on hardcore, in regular I have time to turn around and put one in their head, while in HC I'd be dead before I could react.

Mopped up on this last round of Bog - the guy that I was battling the entire time accused me of using "Martyrdom" too much because I died 80+ times - I was like nope, I actually don't even have Martyrdom, I just suck" hahahahahaha

Funny thing is, I never got to call for an air strike or the helicopter, because I always die so frequently - I am level 35, and I've only been able to call for the helicopter twice :thumbsup:

I can kill people very fast, but I don't stay alive very long because I don't have good "hiding" habits (aka Lasereth, who sneaks around like a fucking assassin, I've seen his replays)

I just got the new maps last night, after attempting to download them about thirty times, and they're very nice, some might say too nice. Creek, for example, is so well made and so full of differing foliage that it's almost impossible to see the enemy before it's too late, and it's given us one of the worst camping spots in the game (the cave in the creek). Nonetheless, I'm digging the maps, though I have yet to play in Killhouse.

Ha ha ha people get so pissed in FFA maps. It's great, they constantly bitch and moan about stair camping and house camping yet they run up the same stairs trying to kill you over and over. I love watching 2 or 3 people fighting it out and then I come in and kill all 3. Constant bickering, trash talking, and hacking claims...all because they won't stop themselves from seeing if you're STILL in that damn house. :thumbsup:

Actually I really like that server, it has very active admins (Slashette is a 37 year old woman who does most of it) and there is a no camping rule. If you corner camp and don't listen to the warnings you get kicked.

I play on another FFA server with no rules and I usually do better because I'll just patrol a single building. The issue is having enough territory to get kills, the guy sitting in a corner never wins the map, they don't see enough targets.

Yeah on FFA maps I usually get up in a building and patrol the entrances. If it gets boring I'll try to flush other buildings out. I can't stand the people who get a rifle and zoom in on 1. single. door. for 30 minutes and get like 10 kills the whole time. How the hell is that fun? Campers are so stupid. They camp because they don't have the skill to kill people regularly. I've had COD4 for months now and I've yet to camp, period. It's just more fun running and gunning.

Thats why you have RPG's. :)

The noob tube is a lot easier but there is nothing quite as fun as RPGing a camper.

HC is definetly interesting. I'm loving the green scope with the only perks I use stopping power and deep impact. One shot kills with it and the deagle are awesome.

I'm liking the objective based games like search and destroy because it doesn't promote camping as much as HC FFA.

Started using the MP5 yesterday (going for golden uzi). First match I played with it I started the match off with a 10 kill streak. MP5 is awesome. Has a really cool sound too. I really like the SMGs.

I bought this game on PS3 not too long ago, but I don't really play much, been busy with school, work, bully on wii... other gamefly games... etc

People whine about the P90 but the MP5 is just as good. I still stick with the P90 but only for the larger clip, some of my best games were with the MP5.

They DO need bullet drop. Its funny getting a 1 shot deagle snipe from across the map but grossly unrealistic :)

I can never get my head around all the 'camper' talk. The game provides honking big single shot bolt action sniper rifles, so why does everyone complain when people use them? Or unless they expect us to run 'n gun with a single shot weapon?

If you're using a sniper rifle then camping is part of the class. However, it's the fuckers that camp in corners with MP5's or AR's or LMG's that are fucking annoying.

Nice vid man, especially liked the tf2 shout out. I used to play that game all the time until cod4 came out. My team played in matches and lost in the final round of a single elim tourney that would of got each of us $200 best buy cards lol. I quit after that.

Teamplay matches and tourneys in FPS games are so much more fun then public servers in my opinion if you've never tried them. 5 people you know and always play with on the mic with you running actual strategies and such. Sometimes there's even money riding on the line depending what leagues you play in. The downside is it takes a lot of time scrimming and practicing to be great.

Kinda like WoW raiding I guess. Takes too much time but can be fun.

so I'm curious, how do you get the golden weapons? I just made it to Lt General, and picked up my .50 cal sniper rifle. What happens when I've gone as far as I can go? And what does it mean when someone has a lightbulb above their head?

Lightbulb above their head means they're talking iirc.

To get a Golden Gun (it's a certain gun that you get gold, you can't choose) you have to complete EVERY challenge for EVERY gun in that category. So for instance if you want the Golden AK-47 you need to get lvl 3 of all the challenges for every AR.

Yeah, Im working on the Golden AK-47 right now. I already got the Golden Uzi for completing the SMG challenges.

I didn't realise it, but it's so obvious now! Chinatown is now my favourite map. :D

I can't stand Chinatown at all. Worst map on the game by far....

Anyway...since I maxed out the prestiges I started toying with things just to have fun with people. One of my favorite things to do is team death with a shotgun, 3 flash grenades, stopping power and extreme conditioning on. I run around the entire board and catch a few people in a room and flash the hell out of them then blast away with the shotgun. People will get so mad between games...

Well I just bought this game a while ago. Won the fucker on PC in 7 hours! I wasn't even playing it seriously and I alt-tabbed pretty often to putz around doing other stuff while playing. 7 hours!! Well STEAM registered me as playing for 7.5 hours total, so I don't know if that includes all the time CoD4 was open or just play time.

Then after I won it told me i unlocked all these cheats and bonus stuff, then my HD crashed so I lost it all!

I have yet to play the online portion yet though. The single player was pretty bad ass, just crazy short.

The Multiplayer is what makes this game great - blows every other online FPS game I've ever played out of the water

I would love to play it, but I am trapped out of town with work for 3 weeks, all I have is my crappy work computer.

I'm trying to find games to play. How does COD4 stack up in single and multiplayer?

Well it got game of the year from dozens of publications and has a huge metascore.

The single player manages to evoke feelings for your squad mates even though the campaign is only about 7-10 hours long depending on if you suck. The graphics are downright amazing and it runs great on older PCs (pretty sure you have a good PC though). Some levels do things that have never been seen in a FPS before (you'd have to play it to see what I'm referring to).

The multiplayer is about as good as it gets from FPS. Lots of game modes and you can own with any weapon. You choose perks (or upgrades) for your character/guns and you can change them at any time by making custom classes.

It's a good buy no matter which way you look at it.

I'll second Lasereth's opinion. Good, solid singleplayer - groundbreaking in some aspects. Amazing graphics, but a tad short (took me around 10 hours).

Multiplayer is on par with the best games out there. I'm not a huge multiplayer person, but I play MP COD4 all the time - it's really awesome. And you can jump right in. It's not like Counterstrike where you will suck for 6 months before killing one person because the other people are so good. I was winning matches within 2 weeks.

Good vid man, that knife to the face at around 53 seconds in was great. I wish I had the stuff needed to record from my 360. I could show you guys some ownage myself. XD
