PS2 Power Supply :(

Hi. Could someone please help me? :( I know this has probably already been asked and there's probably some mega-thread somewhere talking about it, and the fact that I'm a n00b girl doesn't help either :( I know that I'm probably going to get negative responses from this but... I'm going to attempt to fix the power supply problem on an old PS2. Can someone help me or give me a link to an old thread about this? :(

Pleeease help me and don't be mean to me :(

K

hmm. you'll probably have more luck in a playstation specific forum. i'm not sure we even talked about ps2 power supplies before but you can try the search.

If it's the small slim ps2, then see if it's still on warranty and if it's the older big ones, then see if you could buy an older one that's broken and just take the parts you need.

Actually, I'm pretty sure it hasn't been asked! Don't be afraid to ask questions either. If you made an honest effort to search for (what appears to be) a non-existent topic then you have all the rights in the world to ask the question with a new thread. You never have to apologize for quality effort and you never have to fear flaming/obtuseness from this forum either.

I'd check any big market stores like Best Buy or Circuit City. They still sell games and accessories for the ps2, and it may be cheaper to just buy a new power supply than trying to bring a dead one back to life. There is also always eBay. Unless you're proficient with working with electronics and stuff, or if it could be a simple job, I'd stay away from trying to manually fix it.

The old PS2's power supply is internal, all you have is a power cord. If you need one for the slim you could always do the following:

Buy a slim at Gamestop, then return it as defective with the bad power supply, and hope you dont have to get another one. Tell them your kid didnt want it anyway or something.

Also, check your local video game stores (not gamestop or EB). Chances are they have parts, and broken PS2s. Also, while I'm not sure of this, third party manufacturers might make the power supply units.
