Playstation 3 lack of rumble
So with the price cut and free stuff that amazon and Sony are throwing out, i decided to pull the trigger and buy a PS3 along with RFOM.
The system is great, looks spectacular in my Dell 2007WFP at 720p and the sound is simply amazing. Anyway, It's been a few years since I played with a PS, just Xbox (original) and Wii for me since 5 years ago, and I can't but compare what I'm getting for the systems, and I have to say that I'm very dissapointed with the PS3 as of today. Even though the graphics are superb, the lack of rumble makes everything so dull that is almost unbearable. One does not feel immersed in the game because of it. I'm used to feel whenever I'm being shot, the tremors of the earth with the explotions or the pass by of a tank, etc... Sony fucked it up big time when decided not to pay the rumble royalties for the PS3, i could live without the Bluray player, the stunning graphics and the amazing sound, but I want my rumble back!!!

I suppose I've never really even thought about rumble.
You're right , though.. that would make a huge difference. I've only played a few PS3 games myself, and I wasn't terribly impressed. I'm just waiting for the show-stopper game that finally exercises the muscle that the PS3 does have.

I envy you. I'm very close to pulling the trigger myself, but I just can't seem to justify it....yet.
As for the rumble....yes, it sucks, but if rumors are to be believed, then maybe you won't be without rumble for too much longer. Of course, you'll have to buy a whole new controller, but at this point, what's $30-40 on top of $500+?

The first thing i do (if i remember to) when i start a new game i shut off the rumble. I've never really found it all that immersive, and usually it just annoys me. Shooting a gun, getting knocked over, jumping off of a space ship, bludgeoning people with paper cutter blades, these are all things that aren't effectively simulated with a loud vibrating sensation in the hands.

The PS3 didn't launch with rumble because Sony was in the middle of a lawsuit with Immersion over the tech. Sony didn't clear up their legal woes till recently. Immersion mentioned nearly a year ago they could fit rumble into a controller with the SIXAXIS capabilities if Sony was willing to pay.

Rumble is coming for the PS3 it has already been announced, so if you really find it THAT important you will be able to get it soon.
I miss it as well, but I don't really find it that big a deal. I do like the SIXAXIS stuff though.

The rumble feature in many games is annoying. I turned it off on PS2 a long time ago because it just felt gimmicky.
BTW if you want to play the best game on PS3, go buy Resistance: Fall of Man. I just played through it and beat it and it is truly great. Many of the graphics are better than Gears of War! The weapons are great, the characters are awesome, the voice acting and level design is extremely immersive, and above all, it has its own dark, forboding style that is lacking in many FPSs. After finishing Resistance I can safely say the game is worth buying the PS3 for. A+

A controller rumbling does not immerse me in a game at all. Sorry.

to the OP, if the lack of a couple of cheap motors with a unbalanced spindle are causing you to not like the system, then maybe you need to go back to the 2600 days.
Seriously though, I don't miss the rumble one bit, I got my PS3 back in November and while it took a little getting used to the controllers being so lighter, I actually enjoy them better than the PS2 controllers.
