Board Games!

Well, there's not a thread in Tilted Gaming about board games that isn't from like 5 years ago, so I wanted to start one!

I'm really excited because I just got Shattered Empire, the expansion for Twilight Imperium 3rd Edition. We're going to play this weekend and I can't wait.

Who else played any board games recently? Bought any? Wanted to buy any?

I love board games, hardly ever get to play them as most games that I tend to like to play require a lot of time invested in the game and therefore most people I know here don't have a lot of free time.

We broke Risk out after about not playing it for 15 years and I had a blast, plus I won, always a bonus. I love games like that, big fan of Axis and Allies.

I love classics like Monopoly still, Game of Life, Sorry whatever... just brings back fond memories of my younger years. I'm always up for a board game, any time and any place.

I played Settlers of Catain (sp) last summer one night and was totally hooked, mmmm gonna have to buy that one.

Yes, Settlers of Catan is always a favorite. It's an excellent game to bring people who have not played a serious board game into the hobby.

Other great favorites I have, besides my beloved TI3 are Puerto Rico, Time's Up! (this is an amazing party game), Settlers (and its two expansions), and the always amazing Blokus

I just bought 'Robo Rally', which I played years ago and was apparently re-released. It can be a lot of fun. Basically the idea is you 'program' robots on the playing board (with cards). The board has things like lasers, conveyor belts, and pits. Robots push each other, etc. So if 'something unexpected' happens, or you have an error in your 'program', your robot can careen off at random. It can be a lot of fun, but it can last a loooong time, and can be affected by the randomness of the draw pretty heavily.

My son is almost 5. I'm having a great time with Chutes and Ladders and Sorry. (Also Uno and Set, but those are card games.)

I've heard of Robo Rally and it sounds really fun!

@Redlemon: We still play set sometimes, it's a great game for all ages, a great choice!

One of my favorites is History of the World (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/224). It's not the perfect game but its a hell of a lot of fun.

i like "zombies" which is kind of a board game, in that you use tiles to make the board as you go. also labyrinth, which is super fun. i don't know if car wars counts, but you kind of play on a "board."

i miss the old avalon hill games, like gladiator and squad leader....cheap ass games has some fun games, like bitin off headz.

damn, now i wanna play board games....

Oooh!!! Puerto Rico is quite possibly the best game out there!! Anyone else play it?
