For the open ended, non linear gameplay and the awesome mods. I mean where else could you throw grenades at starbucks (shame it didn't do anything!). And go Vigilante hehe...
Halo - Xbox
One of the best FPS for a long time. Can't have thousands of weapons, and the little tiny touches (such as Marines punchin' the air and swearing) and atmosphere were superb. Also like the fact they didn't try to personalise the main character too much, just called him a general name. Story lines are cool but when I name my character I don't want all the cut scenes to call him alex (or whatever) /rant over
Spy Hunter - Classic
Oldie but goodie, still love playing it on shockwave. Just thought it was fun!

Why play that, when you could play Revenge? Seriously, Wrestlemania 2000 was a huge disappointment for me. There is some magic about Revenge that was lost with the subsequent AKI releases. I think the create-a-player mode had something to do with it.

AKI is still the master of wrestling games though, hands down. The grappling system is just awesome.

Yeah, I bought DefJam Vendetta

Thief 1/2 - from Looking Glass Studios (RIP) the same bunch that did System Shock 1/2 and Ultima Underworld 1/2 amongst others. Awesome storylines with nice twists. Amazing atmosphere and some of the most original gameplay ever. Scared me shitless on a number of occasions. 3 difficulty settings that not only offer more challenge, but demand a totally different style of play. Very in-depth background to the games that wasn't actually written out as long boring stories in the manuals, but which could be pieced together in-game.

Team Fortress Classic - Multiplayer only Half-Life mod. Very fast capture-the-flag gameplay and clan matches can be insanely intense.

Baldur's Gate series - Just epic.

The Secret of Monkey Island - Hilarious. Spent many an hour playing this one with a friend when I was a kid.

Myth 1/2 - Brilliant games, very original and VERY challenging. Myth 3 might have been up there too if it weren't for terrible level design, over-use of hero/elite units and a ridiculous end-game.

X-Com: UFO Defense - My ALL TIME favorite game. I have wasted MONTHS of my life playing this game. I've still got it installed on 3 computers and play it regularly. By far the best squad-based strategy game I've ever played. The atmosphere (music, graphics) is PERFECT for this game and the first time I came across a chrysslid I nearly shit myself (ok, I was 12 at the time).

Doom - Not the first but definately the most innovative FPS ever. Another game with perfect atmosphere and edge of your seat action. Nothing since (except maybe Serious Sam) has been able to match the insanity of this game.

Battlezone II - A very overlooked game that provided hours of fun in my old office. After a long day at work we'd all fire up Battlezone and blast each other to smithereens.

Fallout - Favorite CRPG by far. I'm a big post-apocalypse fan and this game embodied the genre perfectly. Amazing game.

Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games - Another great and often overlooked squad-based strategy game. My main reason for including this was that I built TONS of levels for this game, including a re-enactment of the bank robbery from Reservoir Dogs, complete with Mr. Pink and the rest of the crew.

Half-life - Not the most technically amazing game but incredible in all other aspects. The AI in this game freaked me out and it really showed how good a story-line can be in an FPS. BIG departure from the Doom/Quake/Unreal style gameplay.

Combat Mission: Beyond Barbossa - BEST computer wargame ever. I'm a tabletop gamer, and nothing else has even come close to that feel except the Combat Mission series of games. I'm a sucker for the Eastern front so this game suits me perfectly.

Well, that's by no means an exhaustive list, but those are a few of my faves, most of which still reside on a computer or two at my place.

Starcraft Custom Map: (use map settings) V-TEC Paintball
----
This was a really fun custom map for starcraft that was more or less capture the flag but to win u need to accumalate 50 kills. U would start with a civilian and bring it to one of 6 tubes to get a different character. the choice of ur character was like a game of rock paper scissors becuz certain characters always remain victorious against another certain characters. example a marine could kill 2 zergling no prob at a decent location and a dragoon could kill 2 marines easily but 1 zergling could kill the dragoon, maybe even 2 of them. I know one day in 10 years im gonna be feening to play it. i miss it now, might get a copy of starcraft and search around for the map see if anyone remembers it.

Soul Calibur 2
---
The best fighting game ever, and whats cooler than a fighting game? Nuff said.

Super Mario Brothers 3
---
Its the best 2d mario. by far. so many different worlds, so many levels, so many powerups. plus his world revolves around mushrooms....

Galaga
---
The best old school arcade game in my opinion. when i get a house of my own ill prolly buy one. double ships rock. perfection is fulfilling. high scores are addictive. always good for a nice session of galaga, cant play too long tho gets repetitive, better in doses.

Other favorites that were my favorites at one point but not now were: MK1 and MK2, Adventures of Willy Beamish (pc) Grand Theft Auto 1, GTA3, Goldeneye N64, Killer Instinct

man i wish they would reincarnate killer instinct, even tho it would be on xbox since ms owns rare now id buy an xbox just for it if it was true to the original.

I have to say X-COM, the whole series.

It's nice when a game grows as new titles come out, not just in the sense of quality, but also in history, events interlocking etc.

Still playing Starcraft.

Just recently bought the Gameboy Advance SP, tried to play "The Legend of Zelda, A Link to the Past" but found myself scrounging for the original Gameboy cartridge of "TETRIS"!

Oh man:

1. Ocarina of Time for N64 was great, so expansive, you could ride a horse and shoot arrows at the same time, sometimes when I think about this game I seriously get tempted to go out and buy an N64. There was soo much to do.

2. Soul Calibur for Dreamcast. I still play it almost everyday. Simple to learn, difficult to master. Kilik is my favourite but I'd love to learn Taki - so fast...
