X-Com: UFO Defense - My ALL TIME favorite game. I have wasted MONTHS of my life playing this game. I've still got it installed on 3 computers and play it regularly. By far the best squad-based strategy game I've ever played. The atmosphere (music, graphics) is PERFECT for this game and the first time I came across a chrysslid I nearly shit myself (ok, I was 12 at the time).
Doom - Not the first but definately the most innovative FPS ever. Another game with perfect atmosphere and edge of your seat action. Nothing since (except maybe Serious Sam) has been able to match the insanity of this game.
Battlezone II - A very overlooked game that provided hours of fun in my old office. After a long day at work we'd all fire up Battlezone and blast each other to smithereens.
Fallout - Favorite CRPG by far. I'm a big post-apocalypse fan and this game embodied the genre perfectly. Amazing game.
Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games - Another great and often overlooked squad-based strategy game. My main reason for including this was that I built TONS of levels for this game, including a re-enactment of the bank robbery from Reservoir Dogs, complete with Mr. Pink and the rest of the crew.
Half-life - Not the most technically amazing game but incredible in all other aspects. The AI in this game freaked me out and it really showed how good a story-line can be in an FPS. BIG departure from the Doom/Quake/Unreal style gameplay.
Combat Mission: Beyond Barbossa - BEST computer wargame ever. I'm a tabletop gamer, and nothing else has even come close to that feel except the Combat Mission series of games. I'm a sucker for the Eastern front so this game suits me perfectly.
Well, that's by no means an exhaustive list, but those are a few of my faves, most of which still reside on a computer or two at my place.
