Also other people are complaining that it's not WoW. People seem to forget that when WoW came out, there was about 6 months of horrible, horrible server problems. I have not seen any server problems in the game so far at all. Those people gave WoW all the time in the world to get over its growing pains but freaked out the first day because the chat system in HG:L is annoying and the classes aren't completely balanced. It's taken WoW how many years and it's still not balanced and there are still huge problems? On top of all this, the game isn't even an MMO!

People just need to allow the game to mature a bit. IGN is not reviewing the game until some of the problems get patched, and they understand this.
You realize you just asked the gaming community to use reason and logic, right?

But what you typed is true.

Sorry, I'll be more specific. When I try to download the multiplayer patch, it will spend anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour downloading, and then it gives me the message "Error. Cannot connect to server." More often than not, it tells me that it's error 8-2587.

I've tried turning off firewalls, uninstalling firewalls, fiddling with router settings, most of the things suggested on the official forum and Hellgate Guru, and more. Still no luck. Someone's coming in tomorrow to look at the internet wiring in my flat (for a different problem.) Maybe they'll know if my ISP has something to do with this.

The only consistant fix I've seen for that error is using the windows command line "netsh winsock reset"

Use that, then reboot. AFter that, it seems to be a crap-shoot. Gotta say, I'm sorry that you got that bug. You wouldnt happen to have another computer would you? Even a roomies just to test.

The demo gave me promise, obviously since its just a shitty demo the game will be better I'm sure.

They, along with many other people keep claiming this is NOT diablo3.

Well its not, but the people who are going to LOVE this game, are going to be the diablo 2 hardcore crowd. I played diablo 2 for... fuck.... 5 years? maybe even more. I had 1 lvl 98 and like 20 lvl 80+ at least.

maybe that is why I see alot of good things in this game.

That and graphics really do mean jackshit to me if the gameplay is fun. I really love the looting system, the skill grids etc. This looks like the type of game build just for me.

The only thing I'd like to see, since I have a pretty good gaming PC, is they tweak some shit so that it runs a little better, I don't want to have to upgrade to play it, but after I buy it I might just do it anyway.

(Kinda like I had to upgrade when I switched from Diablo. To Diablo 2 hehe)

Man, Diablo 2... pretty much the only game of that "sort" (genre?) that I've played... but man, I played the hell out of it for years.

Tried it earlier, no luck.

By chance, I have an extremely junky extra sitting right here. It can barely run Battlefield 1942 and I think it uses Windows 98.

I might try lugging my massive tower to a friends house, apparently Hellgate runs perfectly well there.

A hardcore D2 fan will definitely find a lot to love in Hellgate. It's buggy as hell and I'm one of many who are having technical problems, but the core gameplay is incredible. It's not Diablo 3 but it *feels* the same as Diablo 2. It has that magic.

Man, Challah, I'm sorry that sucks. I wish they would put up a way to directly download the patches.

There is hope! A kind soul compressed the patches and put them up for download. Now, if only my internet would stop disconnecting every five minutes...

Here are the patches, for anyone who is having similar problems.

Definitely a great game and worth the purchase. I'm still playing my beta account but when that's expired on Wednesday (i think) I'll be going out and purchasing it.

If you enjoyed Diablo 2, you'll love Hellgate. Plain and simple.
