DS WiFi connection w/o nintendo USB adapter

Has anyone gotten their Nintendo DS to connect to the internet without using the Nintendo WiFi USB adapter? I have a WiFi router, but it's configured with WPA security rather than WEP.

What I've been trying to do is plug in a USB WiFi adapter I have (Netgear MA111) into my laptop (we only have laptops) and use Internet Connection Sharing to connect my laptops built-in WiFi to the usb adapater and use the usb adapter as an access point. I can't seem to get it going under Windows. The DS never sees an access point.

I've got an 802.11b hub I might try setting up as an insecure access point or I might try putting a WiFi network card in my Debian server, but that means I have to try and get whatever cheap ass WiFi network card I have lying around to work under Debian. Not a pleasant prospect.

Anyone get their DS connected and play online w/o using the Nintendo USB adapter?

Yes, I configured my DS to my Wireless router at home, works just fine throughout the entire house

Yes and No.

Using WEP there is no problem whatsoever, but as I'm sure you know, the DS doesn't support WPA, so once I made the switch, connectivity went right out the window. I haven't done too much to restore it as I don't really play the DS online too much and then hardly ever at home.

From what I've read online, the DS doesn't seem to play well with DHCP via ICS, so I'd try setting up the connection on the DS manually. I'd give it an IP address on the network and assign the wireless connection you want to use as the DS's gateway. You seem like you know your way around, so I won't go into the usual lengthy how-to, but that would be my course of action.

Here's a link about how to modify the Nintendo Wifi USB connector, but there's a chunk of salient information at the end that should apply to you.
