Online game rental services (gamefly etc)
Sage and I got a PS2 this past Christmas after not having ever had a console before, so we're doing the whole catch up on the last six years of good games thing.
Anyone have any experience with any of the online game rental joints like gamefly or redoctane? Any of them you would recommend, or recommend against? Thanks!

So far gamefly has worked for me. The turn around is long on occasion (Cali to Michigan), sometimes up to a week, but they keep up on new games, and their customer service is very easy to deal with. It is great for long RPGs that take longer then a standard 5 day rental to beat.
Also, they have a keep it option which lets you buy games that you already have at home for a discount. You pay using your account, and they send the orignal case and instruction in a couple days. Its the only way I buy games, as $50-$60 for a game is just too much. You also get extra off purchases the longer you are a member, including 10% discounts and 5 dollar gift certificates every few months. |

I use Gamelender.com. I've been using them for about a year or so, and they have been great. I received a disk that was scratched and wouldn't play, I sent them an email, they shipped a new one the next day, and they shipped the next game in my queue. They are easy to deal with and turn around time is reasonable.

I've been using gamefly for about 9 months and I've been pretty pleased. The turn around is pretty atrocious--if I mail a game on Friday, I might...might get one back the next Friday--but other than that they're great. And that's not really a problem as I have the two games out at a time plan, so while one is flying across the country, I just play the other one.
I had problems with my card, it was a relatively painless fix. If you keep up your membership they give you a percentage off a purchase and every so often (I think it's every three months) they give you 5 Gamefly dollars to use. The gamefly dollars expire, so, you can't roll them over, but I buy a lot of games, so the occasional extra $5 off does me a lot of good. I paid $42 for Gears of War in early January and I just bought Viva Pinata for $40. The cases arrive in about a week and the next game was immediately shipped from my queue.

i use Gameznflix.com to rent movies and games.
i googled gameznflix and coupons and found a working coupon for 25% off any subscription. so basically, i pay $12.99 a month to rent games and movies and to have 3 titles out at a time. thats a great deal. i've been using it for about two months now. the turn-around time is decent. so i really can't complain much. the main reason i chose gameznflix was to rent both movies and games. and its been good to me so far. |

i did the same thing and went back to gamefly. i'm not going to buy games anymore (too expensive), and brick and mortar rentals aren't cuttin' it, and shopping around for used / discounts is too time-consuming. of the online rentals gamefly is best by far. didn't realize until i shopped around.
delivery varies but i've adjusted and never lack in great titles. just got armored core 4 yesterday. heard it hasn't even been released in some areas. |

After a week or two I will say that gamefly seems to have a more extensive collection when it comes to the weird unusual games, but honestly it is not worth it to me to pay almost twice as much, get fewer games, and wait for shipping that takes twice as long (or more).
gamefly -> 2 games out for $22/mo, takes ~8 business days to get a new one when I mail mine in gameznflix -> 3 games out for $12/mo, takes 3-4 business days to get a new one when I mail mine in, plus they have movies too so I can cancel my blockbuster online subscription.

I think renting PC games would almost be impossible. Just think of how many games you have to enter CD keys and make accounts to go online with. Lets take BF2142 for example. The only way I could see them doing it would be if the company who rents the games took the CD key and registered it to a username.... and then sent the username and pass to each person that rented it. But you know as well as I do that the first idiot who got it would be changing the pass and just generally messing it up so no one else can play.
On a different note, I signed up for GameFly a few weeks ago and other than the slow shipping I am pleased. If you have a GF sub you can go to www.brightspot.tv and watch commercials to earn up to $10 off your GF sub. It does work, I just got my $10 off applied today.
