Baldur's Gate II or Icewind Dale II?
I'm looking to invest some money in one of these two games, but I can't decide which!
I read briefly that Icewind Dale II has more fighting action, but I don't know if that's making up for a crappy storyline. I just remember that Baldur's Gate 1 was very fun...until I lost the CD case it was in. Anyway, if anyone has played one of these two games (or both), I'd like to hear your opinions. |

There's someone in my head, but its not me

I'm still playing both. Its talking me much longer than I anticipated but mainly because I keep switching between the two. BGII has a much more intricate storyline and there is a LOT of roleplaying in it. IWDII is more of a "hack-n-slash" dungeon crawl with a little roleplaying in it. Between the two, I would probably recommend IWDII because of all of the action in it. The storyline isn't really all that bad.

i finsihed baldurs gate II and Throne of Bhall twice now, and found that i enjoyed that much more than im currently enjoying IWDII. im about half way through IWDII at the moment, and for me hack and slash gets a bit boring.
There is enough fighting in BGII to keep you occupied, you'll find that although they arent as frequent, they are epic battles. maybe i havent got far enough into iwdII to compare however. i also enjoyed the interaction between the characters in BGII which doesnt exist in IWDII. The storyline in BGII is top notch, which as zotz said also threw in a lot of role playing. the storyline of IWDII didnt grab me as much and as such ive already found interest to be waning as i get bored with too much fighing. each to their own though. id go for both

i cannot stress this enough
BG2. BG2. BG2. ice wind dale 2 is fun hack n slash that gets boring FAST. ID2 has the best party building engine i've ever played, but after that it goes down hill. BG2 has TONS of side quests, an amazing story and lots of NPCS ID2 = a 7+ on a 1 to 10 scale BG2 = a 10+ |

got BG I & II and ICS I & II, but havent played the sequel to either.. i can however offer this opinion:
what did you or do you enjoy most about the RPG games you've played? the storyline and seeing your characters grow or the fighting and seeing how powerful your characters could get. BG had a fantasticly driven story but i also enjoyed walking around in ICD hacking up all kinds of baddies and grabbing new loot. |

I loved BG, but I prefer IWD II for online gaming. The char. creation always for a much more varied party and keeps your chars from being as similar in BG2. Plus once you get into BG2 and its expansion, you can have uber chars that can possible finish the game by themself with no other party members. In IWD2 thats just not possible.
