Has anyone ever sold thier WoW account?
Yeah i've been deactivated for 2 months, spiteful of the time i've wasted of my life on this game. fully epic'd out human paladin, hand of ragnaros, 8/8 tier 2, collectors edition account, all the seasonal goodies. exalted with far too many factions.
I just.. I dunno, I see accounts like mine going for ridiculous bids of 1200$ or so, and I'm severely tempted to take a chance. seems to me like it's one of those "now or never" things. Has anyone ever sold thier account? I'm not sure what all it involves or how to protect myself from getting ripped off. I'm not sure if this is an acceptable practice, I know they tend to say "no" in the ToU/ToS but it's happened in every game to launch since the beginning of MMO's and it seems kinda silly to me to act like it doesn't happen, or pretend that having an anti seller stance will stop it at all. *shrug* I dunno, anyways, discuss. |

From what I've heard, you can usually get away with it as long as you don't actually sell the account, but "sell the ability to play the account that does belong to Blizzard." It's all in the wording. There's still a huge risk involved, however. You need to sell it now if you want to though...your HoR and 8/8 tier 2 won't be worth shit once BC launches.
My warrior has similar gear (8/8 tier 2, HoR, full DPS gear set from AQ, etc) and I've sorta debated selling my account but I just can't bring myself to do it after having 110 days /played on him.

I had a friend who's summer job was to play video games and then sell accounts. He made way more than I ever did in a summer

seeing that MMO account sales is an unregulated 'black' market, you have to treat your account as a black market good; pretend you're a drug dealer for a day. i would demand cash payment, even if it means you have to restrict yourself to local buyers for possibly less money. obviously it helps to be in a major metropolitan area. it's way too easy to get scammed with other forms of payment. keep in mind that after you turn over the account name and password, you have no proof that you actually transferred the account. with paypal, if it still works anything like it did a few years ago, all the buyer has to do is claim you didn't deliver and they will simply take the money right back, and as far as I could tell you have no restitution. i'm not sure about other forms of electronic payment, but I wouldn't trust them. a postal money order might work, but cash it at the post office, and don't turn over the account until you have the cash in your hand. be sure there's no way to trace the money back to your personal bank account.
i'm not sure about blizzard; with sony its sometimes possible to recover your account in case of a scam, but instead of risking it just make sure you can't get scammed in the first place. make the buyer assume all the risk. Last edited by n0nsensical; 11-22-2006 at 12:37 PM.. |

well my room-mate has been selling all the beta keys that he gets in his email from blizzard (for some reason they invited him, someone who quit a long time ago, vs me, or any of my 5 other friends, who played until very recently, but still have active accounts)
he's gotten 3 keys now, and on one of them, the guy tried to claim that the key did not work, and then put in a dispute, and paypal told the guy to get bent, since they only deal in physical goods. (this happened just yesterday actually, so...) so yeah, paypal wouldn't let them reverse payment on me for that. it's not physical goods. hrm, guess it can't hurt to try, not like I'll be needing the account soon. |

I sold my Mage a few weeks ago via ebay. It's not an easy feat or without its risks, but worth it in the long run.

I looked up some characters on ebay and it's fluctuating pretty bad. One 60 warrior with Sulfuras and full tier 2 was going for $100. Yeah right. I wouldn't sell my account for anything less than $500 for how much time I put into it.

I sold my original Everquest in '01 for $250. Six months later, the person had left it dormant so I leveled up to the max level and re-equipped, sold it to the same person for another $200. Again it went dormant, so I sold my character to someone who wanted to sacrifice him down to level 47, for $50. Not a bad proposition.
